Gotong-Royong Gereja 2018

Image
Ever since the church gotong-royong fiasco several years back, I shunned the activity for fear of a repeat. This year, due to lack of response from the other members of my BEC (quiter than a grave when looking for volunteers), I registered. Mum didn't join as she had her hands full with the monsters. At 7:30 AM, we were treated to a simple breakfast of nasi lemak bungkus and hot beverages. An elderly man in front of me took a sip of the tea and declared, "longkang water". Lol. With a pail and a rag in hand, we started work. Work was segregated by ministries. My group was tasked with cleaning the many wall fans situated in and around the church. Once that was done, we moved on to cleaning chairs, and de-mossing the drains. Towards the end, we cleaned the adhesive stains from the front steps. We were so lacking of the proper tools that we went out to buy Clorox and Jiff, or those that lived nearby just went home to get it. Finished up everything slightly after noon. Cle

Helping the Broken Winged Angels

Every year during Christmas time, Nu Skin in collaboration with Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) organizes the Nu Skin Wish List Project where needy kids with congenital heart defects are given Christmas presents by Nu Skin distributors and supporters. Bicycles were the most sought after items in the 500 plus wishes fulfilled. The partnership had lasted for a decade and would hopefully continue for many more. Most importantly, Nu Skin distributors continue to be a force for good and donate 1% of their commissions towards the South East Asia Children's Heart Fund . To date, more than 10,000 life-saving surgeries had been performed. After the gift presentation ceremony, we were allowed to visit the wards in small batches. Managed to meet a couple of kids  who were recuperating after their surgery. One mother described that her child had improving levels of blood oxygen, and that her son couldn't wait to get back to school. Meaningful to be able to meet the actual people w

Superstar

Image
As advised by the organizing committee, I arrived at STKL before 11:00 AM for my styling session. Finally met the demanding drivers behind my crazy shopping spree the day before. Multi-talented folks from STKL did my hair and makeup. The hair stylist decided that I should have high hair, and made sure of that with a heavy duty dose of hair spray. The make up artist complimented me on my eyebrows, saying that they were very neat. Once everyone had arrived and been made up, the organizing committee briefed us on what to do. Each of us what split into pairs, and my partner was a Malay lady from Kuala Lumpur. Once again, we were reminded on the importance of our roles to showcase the power of Nu Skin's AgeLOC technology. Just like a modeling course, we were given guidelines on how to carry ourselves, how to walk, and pose. They walk us through the whole routine, then left us to practice with our partners. The whole venue was bustling with activity with the ST family giving their

Superstar Shopping

Image
My testimonial at BOSS Night paved the way for me to become one of the TR90 Superstars during 2018's last Millionaire Summit. Success Together takes the role of Superstar very seriously because showcasing a transformation well is pivotal to helping at least one person in the audience to trust Nu Skin's AgeLOC technology. The proximity to Christmas influenced the organising committee to choose red and green as the colour theme. In short it was time to go shopping. The choice of clothing had to be vetted by the committee. I borrowed a bright red blazer from KH's sideline, and so what was left was to settle the top and the pants. It was my last day of shopping and I was a little panicked. Had to make the best of the Friday evening after work. I traveled from One Utama to Pavilion, and finally back to One Utama to get the items of clothing that fit the bill. The committee was very tough on the particular look they wanted and I had to hunt like crazy for it. I was on the ve

Cutiepie's Birthday 2018

Image
Booked Cutiepie for her birthday dinner at Southern Rock Seafood , Bangsar. Not located at the posh part of Bangsar, but at the grimier shops near Wisma UOA. I took the LRT there and luckily the rain wasn't too heavy for me to walk over. Our dinner consisted of grilled seabass, their catch of the day, and a pot of mussels. The fish was pretty good, but I must say that the mussels were a bit small. Can't hold a candle to Two Sons Bistro. We also toasted the occasion with wine, and towards the end of dinner, KH also arrived. Interesting to note that they we spotted Aquaman's Christmas tree on the counter. We decided to move to Bala's Banana Leaf Restaurant near TMC. Never been to the place. Judging by the full house, it must be good. As luck would have it, we were seated next to ForIHaveSinned. Such a coincidence!  Got a round of teh tarik, and KH tried their ghee chapati with chicken varuval . Both were fantastic and I must admit that I stole quite a lot off his p

Wreck-it Ralph II

Image
IOI gave me four tickets for Wreck-it Ralph II  which I collected at IOI Mall. Naturally I offered the freebies to The Tribe, but BIL couldn't make it, so mum took his seat. I spent a couple of hours loitering around the mall waiting for them to finish. Had lunch at Asam House , a restaurant that had been around since the launch of IOI Mall. I recommend the buburchaha there as its the real deal. KH joined me at Starbucks , and we had a chance to talk that afternoon. In the evening, we went to Banh Mi Cafe at Puchong Jaya for dinner. Impressed by the quality of food and price. It's delicious and friendly to your wallet. My recommendations are the chicken salad ( a perfect appetizer with its lime dressing ), goi cuan , and banh mi with stewed meatballs.

SimonSays

Image
Several Simons have the "QB" postfix in my phone book which means that they play for our team. Recently I added another Simon, who is a mutual friend of SimonLover and Janvier. I'll christen him SimonSays. We started off chatting in Instagram and further interaction with him revealed that he's also an underwear collector like moi . Yay! One day, he messaged about a STUD sale in Robinsons,  The Gardens Mall. He was nice enough to offer to get some for me at MYR30 a box. And so he got me two pairs, and we scheduled to meet up on a Saturday afternoon. We met up at Mokka Cafe , Jalil Link during lunch time. Truth be told, he looks better in person, more attractive. And he has a nice voice. Before you guys buzz me about his contact number, he's actually happily attached. I paired Mokka's nasi lemak with cooling cup of Oolong milk cream. And since I had a one for one offer for the Entertainer app, I forced SimoSays to eat. Got to know him better and turns out

Tater in Town : Dinner, Ice Cream, and Coffee

Image
Whenever Tater is in town, KH and I make it a point to meet up with him. He was staying at Westin Hotel again ( I suspect its due to the cute guys they employ for the check-in counter ), so KH and I gathered there before dinner. Finally passed him the acrylic medal holder to celebrate his induction into the 7 Continents Marathon Club. It had been sitting under my bed for a long time! After a short chat, we headed out to Wizards at Tribeca for dinner. Took us ages to cross Jalan Imbi just to get there. The traffic police just kept the traffic going with no priority for the pedestrians. A very pretty place, but the dinner menu is also pretty expensive unlike their lunch options. We shared two main and a salad. Truth be told, when I exited the restaurant, I was as hungry as when I was walking in. Went back to Pavilion for ice cream and coffee at Stone Cold Creamery ( brings back memories of when Tater was based in Bugis ) and Starbucks . Back at Westin Hotel, the staff were bu

Like a BOSS

Some weeks ago, KH requested that I share my TR90 testimonial at STKL BOSS Night. Truth be told, I wasn't really keen about it. I agreed in principle, but was prepared to reject him if anything came up at work. I felt it was justified since he kept shuffling the dates around as well. To my surprise, I was slotted to share on Prophet Muhammad's Birthday which was a public holiday. No more excuses then. I started the day bright and early, not wanting to disable my weekday alarm. Brought mum and a neighbour to Taman Naga Emas for pan mee and roti canai . Pan mee was great as usual, but the sambal was too spicy that day. Nearly choked on the first bite. The roti kosong didn't disappoint, it was as crispy as I expected it. Back home, I just lazed the day away. Mum cooked a simple meal of vegetable soup, and asparagus stir-fried with fish fillet. By 5 pm, mum and I were dressed and headed out to Publika. Rained for a fair bit along the way, but I was saved by the silicone

Nonagenarian Mickey

Image
Believe it or not, Mickey Mouse is already 90 years old! Pavilion Kuala Lumpur marked his birthday with a 1,000 mini Mickey Mouse figurine Christmas tree. On top of that, there's the 100 Go-Local Mickey Mouse showcase, an exhibition of Mickey Mouse re-imagined by Malaysian creatives. The crowd was crazy. One could hardly get a decent photo, and the throng was hardly conducive for anyone to admire the exhibits. Aori Ramen is the latest ramen joint in Pavilion. The earlier hype made it quick impossible to secure a table. Now that the 'new toilet' syndrome has passed, we could finally check it out. Aori Ramen can't decide on their service model, so they a hybrid model. Sit at the tables for normal table service, and if you're alone, head to the Ichiran-style counters ( but it's post-paid instead of Ichiran's pre-paid ). Ordering instructions are found at each cubicle, but there's an obvious problem with it. The instructional board has a picture o

SIC30

St. Ignatius Church celebrated its 30 years by organizing a family carnival. Not an easy feat without a big organizing committee and the various ministries in the church to lend a hand. BECs were tasked with setting up various food stalls. Woke up bright and early to help set up the stall. And the week before, I was scrambling to get photos developed for our annual activity posters. Can't believe that a single 4R photo now costs RM2.50 to develop. You need a minimum order or 100 pieces for a slightly cheaper price. Yikes. Not going to say much, I'll just let the photos do the talking : Arts and crafts. Nuns and books. Cotton candy girls. Clown on stilts. The crowd burgeoned as the day got hotter! Pony ride. Lotsa food! Grilling in the blazing sun. Asking for trouble! Dunked! Not twinks in Speedos though. Wushu performance. By noon, mum and I had to rush off to Little Monster's year end concert at the Gardens Theater. Things were even more
