Hotpot HomePar

Image
QueerRanterD's birthday was around the corner, so his new boyfriend, Bran arranged a hotpot party at his home. Bran has a beautiful home in Bandar Utama, and he tastefully decorated it in a black and white theme. Previously, Bran worked in the States, and his company gave him a placement in Malaysia during the MCO period. Personality-wise, they are quite different, but they seem pretty compatible. Yin and Yang at work. The party was an intimate one, just KH, SK, CK, and I. The soup base Bran bought from HaiDiLao, and of course we had a vegetarian option for QueerRanterD. Great selection of fresh meat,  seafood, and vegetables. He even prepared a sauce station! The birthday cake was a tiramisu from a home baker, and we also had some keto chocolate cookies that the host baked. And no party would be complete without some Riesling. Let's do it again next year!

Merry May

Image
In anticipation to our Bali pilgrimage tour, mum had to renew her international passport. Photo studios are now few and far in between. Found one in Happy Garden, just half a shop really, but the guy was good. The amount of photo editing he did was impressive. Stray hairs, asymmetrical face, earrings, deep wrinkles, all did not survive his Photoshop selection tool. That night we started a series of makan-makan to celebrate the May Babies-- mum and Little Monster. First it was House of Petai with its 'vomit beans' in every single dish, and its singing chef. Second was a shabu-shabu buffet at Wagyumore because Little Monster liked the spaghetti at the salad bar. Mind-blown. Third was Euro Deli  which was also right up Little Monster's alley. Let the kids try some lager, and they didn't like it!

International KH Day

Image
In early March, mum attended the International Women's Day celebration that was jointly organized by the DBKL, the Seputeh constituency, and Taman Desa Resident's Association. Located at the commuity center, among the activities lined up were health checks, cancer screenings, aerobics, and some talks. The queues were quite long, so we went to the nearby Bakeroni Cafe for breakfast. I remember the place from when I started working at Faber Towers some twenty years ago. The lady boss was a real nagger. And too bad the coffee tasted just like hot water. Went home to freshen up after lunch to meet up with KH for his birthday celebration. He looked handsome in a floral batik shirt ( the older he gets, the more he favours loud prints ). Before dinner, we had coffee and cincalok fried chicken ( one of his guilty pleasures ) at Yunshu Coffee . The dinner venue was at Checkers , that was recommended by Janvier yonks ago. When we arrived, we found a party of ten in the restaurant. The g...

Bomakase42

Image
The festivities for my birthday came to a close with an omakase dinner organized by SK. Red was the theme for the night, so I turned up in my Christmas pants.  Hisho is located in one of the deadest malls in town, DC Mall. Apollo knows the owners of the restaurant, so there was some special treatment. Frankly, it was one of the biggest omakase meals I had ever envountered. The first course was like a personal "Five Happiness" platter, and I was already half full after that. Portions were large, but truth be told, didn't taste very premium. Most importantly everyone had a great time. Until B43.  P.S.: The pastries in the first photo was from The Bread Shop . Made a stop there before dinner because we got out of the house pretty early.

B42 x KH

Image
Bear with me, this post is still on the topic of my 42nd birthday ( and my 43rd birthday ain't very far away lol ). Dearest KH planned a day out with me, just the two of us. He chose Lalaport BBCC because of the "teamLab: Resonating Microcosms:" art installation. Lalaport busier than usual that day because people were lining up to purchase Westlife concert tickets. The line started all the way in the middle of the mall right out to WoW Plaze where some were under the sun. Thought that concert ticketing is fully online these days. Wonder if it helps to deter scalpers. Funny thing was, the people who were queuing looked way too young for Westlife. Curious.  Before lunch, we headed up to the rooftop get sunburned. The recommended timing for the teamLab thing-y is in the evening, but we weren't particular about it. In the sun, it's a practically a field of shiny chrome Weebles that trigger sounds when you rock them. But I was also reminded of a field of metallic Xenom...

Tater In Town: The Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything

Image
Tater was in town again for 'work' and more importantly to spend time with friends! Impeccable timing as well because my 42nd birthday was coming up. Celebrated with a little 'pool party' at the Westin ( Tater missed the cute boys at the front desk ). Thank goodness for the awesome weather and sexy trunks. Our dinner plans were at Lai Ching Yuen , Grand Millennium Hotel. Realized that we seldom have Chinese food with Tater although he's such a rice queen. The restaurant was so empty that it felt like we had booked the whole place. Birthday boozing and coffee session was sponsored by Tater at 443 Bar Lounge .  Great ambience. When I got home and opened the present from Tater, I was wow-ed by the strappy harness style underwear that he got. Definitely need to shave before rocking that pair! Note: Sorry Tater for disrupting your diet plans!

Bro is Back

Image
The last I saw my brother was CNY 2020 before the borders were closed due to COVID-19. With the borders open, lots of annual, and an expired passport, he returned home. Good timing because it was my mother's birthday and it was Raya Puasa ( lemang season ). KH helped me organize a joint ( Little Monster's birthday as well ) birthday lunch at OUG Jade Restaurant . The minimum order for a private room was RM1,000 but it was worth it because the whole place was swamped with people celebrating mother's day. Although we were so full from lunch, and the non-halal Tiramisu birthday cake from Say Cheese Cafe , we still went to Mikaa Cafe for coffee. Very spacious, but the acoustics were horrid. Just one table of makcik bawang was enough to give us a headache. In the evening, we had a very light dinner at aboutyu , a new family-owned cafe in Happy Garden. Their mascot is a lizard named Tofu who 'greets' customers at the counter, together with no less than a hundred Bettas ...

Rice, O Rice

Image
Cutiepie and I have celebrated each other's birthdays since our undergraduate days in University Malaya. 2022 is no different, except that there're kids in tow now. I kind of made a mistake of choosing Hoya as the dinner venue. Her kids were shocked by the Korean cuisine!  To normalize the meal for them, we ordered some ramyun ( but it was all spicy ), and rice. One would think that it's easy to get rice, but not at Hoya. Took five requests for the rice to come. The poor kids were starving because the grilled meat and banchan looked so alien to them. The whole dinner felt like a mess. Next year I'll book a table at a nice Chinese restaurant. :D. The kids were still hungry, and the adults were thirsty, so we went to the nearby Uncle Don's . The kids were happy with their soda and French fries ( but truth be told, I don't know how they can screw this up ), while the adults got their cocktails. Blessed birthday to my Sahabat Skandal!

T&P

Image
Terrance and Phillip were having a staycation at The RuMa Hotel and Residences in the heart of KL. It was Phillip's birthday, so he invited a couple of his close friends over for some after-dinner drinks at their room. Our original dinner plans were at Natalina, an Italian restaurant on the third floor of Avenue K. The upper floor looks better now after being given a facelift. Anyway, we didn't eat at the Italian restaurant because it was fully-booked. Plan B was Nando's . Haha. We walked around Avenue K and Suria KLCC for a bit before finally heading over to The RuMa. Explored the place a bit, and I must say that they put a lot of effort into interior design. When T&P were finally ready for us ( not sure if they were fooling around having naked a naked dinner in bed ), we went up to the room. Phillip's best friend arrived not long after, with his boyfriend in tow. Three couples, cake, and Nespresso. Didn't stay long because because T&P probably had bathtub ...

Forty One

Image
It's that time of the year again-- my birthday. My birthday celebrations are often simple, and my forty first birthday was no different. A simple lunch at home with family and friends. Crabs are high on my craving list, so KH got me a nice serving of the crustaceans from Crab Generation . Other than that, he also packed roast duck from his favourite food truck in Taman Desa. Gratitude came all the way from Klang, and came with something sweet-- a foot-long mango strudel from Strudel Bakery House . Drew also came with vegetarian food. SK was in charge of the cake, and the custom cake she ordered from Lynn Can Bake was jaw-dropping. The rose-lychee liquor watermelon cake "was brought to you by the letter W!".  Quite a challenge fitting that monster of a cake in the refrigerator. Once we had lunch, the cake was cut, and I made a round of drip coffee for everyone. From the dining table, we spilled over to the living room for a chit-chat session long into late afternoon. Than...

Watch Fit

Image
Received a super early birthday present from SK which is a Huawei Watch Fit. Not the first time she got me a wearable device. There's a Mi Band 3 somewhere in my room too. This time round, I decided to actually wear it. What prompted me to do so? It's a Huawei device, and I'm using a Huawei smartphone. There's a SpO2 reading feature on the Huawei Watch Fit. A couch potato like me would have scant use for the fitness tracking and workout features. Whenever it tells me to get active, I just ignore it. LOL. Other useful features include: Phone notification . Quite useful because my smartphone is perpetually on mute.  Sleep analysis . A lot of mumbo-jumbo, but I guess it encourages me to sleep earlier. Sometimes, it mistakenly thinks that I'm taking a nap. Do I stay THAT still? Haha. Heart rate . The novelty of reviewing my heart rate when I fap or f*ck.   What I am going to with my watches now?

Little Connie Turns 5

Image
As promised, Connie organized a small birthday 'party' for her daughter who turned 5. In part, the party was to make up for the lackluster birthday in 2020 as well. KH and I arrived a tad earlier to help her decorate. As it was a surprise party, Connie got her best friend, Lynette to bring Little Connie out for a spin. Connie had settled most of the balloons ( thank goodness, I hate blowing balloons! ), so we were responsible for setting up the playhouse. Pretty much a construction job. Found that KH's pretty hopeless even with an instruction manual. With our combined efforts, we managed to set everything up in time. Little Connie was already restless, and wanted to return home. When Little Connie saw the decorations, her face lit up and gave a squeal! She loved the "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" balloons, and was excited with all the presents and pink unicorn soft toys that were stacked in front of the playhouse. And there was also a Frozen jelly cake to top it all off. Once a...

Celebrating Connie

Image
Ivan had been bugging me about having a crab meal for months. I finally agreed, and he killed two birds with one stone by inviting me to an early birthday celebration for his downline, Connie. Connie lived at Kota Kemuning, so it was considered gallivanting . Luckily, there were no police roadblocks. Actually it was my first time meeting Connie. She had been bugging KH to bring his spouse, so there I was. She's very friendly, and lives with her 5-year old daughter, Little Connie. Her daughter is really full of energy. The moment I walked into the living room, she jumped into my arms. Super friendly! Ivan packed two varieties of XXL crabs from Crab B Seafood Restaurant at Puchong Jaya-- sweet and sour, and salted egg. The birthday girl prepared a platter of raw oysters, and another platter of cheese-baked oysters. Oh la-la! It was a very satisfying meal. To crack the shell, Connie put a large pestle and mortar on the dining table! Surprisingly, Little Connie is not picky with food,...

KH Turns 40

Image
The second Wednesday of March was KH's 40th birthday. I took a day off to spend time with him on his special day. Started the day off with some fooling around at home. He was turned on by my choice of a STUD jockstrap. Turning 40 didn't dampen his libido as well. After that rare jockstrap sex session, we went to Aurora Place to collect my multi-focals. Handed over my spectacles to the optician and waited for him to switch the lenses. Fifteen minutes later, he came out with bad news. He had cut the lenses, and fitted the left lens. While trying to complete the job, the right side cracked! Ack. He scrambled to find a similar frame and thank goodness that the first pair he picked out was a perfect fit, and I actually liked the design. Phew! The frame was complimentary. By the time everything was settled, it was already time for late lunch.  My hubby is a big Penang Char Kway Teow junkie, so didn't mind going somewhere far for a good plate of it. We drove all the way to Sungai ...

October and November Babies

Image
In mid-December, Cutiepie ( she managed to ditch her kids lol ) and I ( brought hubby along too ) had a long overdue birthday gathering at Midvalley Megamall. My birthday was in October ( you guys remember right? ) and her birthday was in November. Our debut into the 4th decade. We had lunch at Pho Vietz , a meal of bun cha and steamed rice rolls. At the restaurant, we exchanged gifts-- belated birthday presents, and Christmas presents.   The choice of Midvalley Megamall really brings back a lot of memories for us. It was one of our de facto venues for loitering during our undergraduate days. Sometimes we had hours to kill because we would have a lecture at 8 AM, and maybe another at 6 PM. Did some shopping and camwhoring before stopping at Jamaica Blue for coffee and lemon curd cake. A chance to rest our legs, and reply a work e-mail that I was being chased for. Someone forgot to factor in a monthly recurring cost of HKD10,000 into the proposal that we had submitted earlier...

Crab Cravings

Image
For my 40th birthday, I had a craving for crab. Took me quite a while to decide on a venue for it. A balance between quality and price. Finally decided on Crab Meet at Taman Bukit Mayang Emas. Apollo, Lifebook, SK, and KH were there to memeriahkan majlis . For maximum satisfaction, we ordered the so-called XXL crabs, but they weren't that big la. A decent size. The star dish was the salted egg crabs that came stacked like a pile of Jenga. It came with crispy yam sticks which made it even yummier. Actually, my favourite is sweet and sour crabs, but their version was disappointing. Too sour.  Apollo recommended Beans Depot for after-dinner drinks. It was located in a very quiet area of Ara Damansara. Dark and deserted after office hours. But it was great because there was a good selection of single origins coffee with various brewing methods. That night alone the barista brought out the syphon, V60 dripper, and nitro cold brew keg. The affogato was good too. Another interesting thi...

The Big Four

Image
The year 2020 is memorable because: Pandemic. Underwhelming Wawasan 2020. Turning forty. On the eve of my birthday, my family celebrated with a HaiDiLao steamboat dinner. SK got me a four unicorn cake from Foret Blanc. On my birthday, I took the day off. First thing in the morning, I got my birthday bang, and then KH brought me out to lunch at Kingstreet Cafe . Weird that this cafe is located in a quiet location in Seputeh, attached to a furniture gallery.  Loved the Guiness beef bowl though I couldn't detect any hint of Guiness.  Didn't have our coffee there. Ventured to Kenny Hills Bakers instead. The whole place was a chaotic construction site with little parking. We parked our car further down the road and walked over. When we arrived at the bakery, the line had already snaked outside. And the interior looked mighty cramped to me. Snapped a few photos and left. KH drove us to 163 Retail Park, a new place for me. The place looks like any other shopping mall, but the differe...
