Merdeka in Singapore IV: Tater and Tuna

Image
Before flying back to Malaysia, KH and I attended Sunday mass at Church of the Sacred Heart on Tank Road. The community is small enough that the priest actually blessed the September babies, parishioners who had wedding anniversaries, and couples who were trying to conceive during the announcements. The church has beautiful marble altars with intricate inlays, with two side altars dedicated to Mary and Joseph. Candles are lit high on the altar that the sacristan needs to use candle snuffer.  Made lunch plans with Tater at Maguro Brothers , Tras Street as KH is a big fan of expensive tuna. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, and the friendliness of the service. KH was happy with the otoro-don, and maguro ribs was also perfectly grilled. With a little persuasion, the waitress got us drinking out of traditional masu cups. It was such a spectacle, that it influenced the adjacent table to do the same. Haha. And what does one do after getting a little tipsy on...

Merdeka in Singapore III: More Makan

Image
While we were out hunting for breakfast, I spotted the same tourist I saw at Yakun the day before, having his breakfast at Toast Box. Recognized his topknot, painted nails, and Kodama tattoo on his hand. Guess he's kopitiam hopping for the duration of his stay. We gave kopi and eggs a miss, and went to Albert Centre for prawn noodles instead. Compared to Malaysia, Singapore's version is often porkier with the choice pork ribs or pig tails.  Met up POD, Nic, and Suzy over a delicious Teochew lunch at Sin Chao Gardens , River Valley Road. For the first time ever, I met Suzy's boyfriend. Both POD and Nic were their usual lou fu, lou chai selves, and they always had fantastic tales to tell. Everyone was busy, so we didn't have round two.  As luck would have it, HornyBF was in town, on his way out to Boston. Caught up with him with at Xin Wang , Suntec with a whole different click. The only other person I knew was Nivlac, Azzuro Hyperion's hubby. Being an impromptu mee...

Merdeka in Singapore II: Time for Friends

Image
The next morning, I woke up to an empty house. KH and Tater had gone for a morning run, and came home in sweat-drenched running tights. Quite the morning sight. The two lads got freshened up, and we went out to look for breakfast. When in Rome, do as the Romans do-- have breakfast at Yakun . Haha. Tater's favourite haunt is at Fortune Centre. A regular there. That Yakun is also popular with tourists due to its close proximity to several hotels.  Tanked up on kaya butter toast, soft-boiled eggs, and kopi c, KH and I went to Fort Canning to admire the long queue of humans trying to get a shot at the 'tree tunnel'. Not only tourists lined up, but also newlyweds. Quickly left and headed to Fong Sheng Hao at NEX to meet up with Justin and his 'superhero' kid, Sen. There was some good news that he managed to enrol his son into public school despite his complicated health conditions, but his custody battle with his ex-wife was far from over. Sen actually complained to his...

Merdeka in Singapore I: Back to Bugis

Image
Over the long Merdaka weekend, KH and I made a trip down to Singapore to visit friends. Looking back at my passport, my last visit was in 2019, a few of years before Covid. At KLIA2, I actually bumped into my church member. Such a small world. We arrived at Changi way past lunchtime, so the hubby was understandably hangry. Randomly picked Tsui Wah at Jewel, and it was KH's turn to bump into someone he knew. I was amused by the way his ex-colleague's children were eating their lunch-- they sucked up strands of wantan noodles draped over their hands.  I'd have a fit.  Along the way to Tater's place in Bugis, we passed by all the memorable landmarks, Bugis+, Bugis Street, and Albert Centre, to name a few. And since it was the 7th lunar month, the spaces around OG department store showed signs of activities from the Hungry Ghost Festival. When we arrived, we were given the customary welcome bear hug, and peck on the cheek. That night, we didn't have dinner with our hos...

Vortex Visit

Image
Suddenly Singapore. That's the only way I can describe my day ( work ) trip to Singapore. Management suddenly wanted someone to standby in case there were questions about our cloud architecture. At T1 arrival hall, I had the opportunity to take a quick look at Jewel, and it's famous Rain Vortex, the artificial giant toilet in perpetual flush. Hehe. We arrived in the city a little before lunch, with enough time the for a quick bite. I chose the lei cha at Lau Pa Sat ( forgot to bring my Kopitiam card ). Unfortunately, the kopi quality had sunk very low. The presentation was at an office building nearby. Very modern with a cafe-like eating area for their staff. The whole meeting went without a hitch, and I didn't even really need to open my mouth. Money well-spent. With no work engagements left, I left for the airport really early to meet Tater. He looked great and refreshed. He treated me to a vanilla fig latte and a banana chocolate cake at Starbucks. It was gr...

Suddenly Summit

Image
On a whim, my CEO suggested that we should make a trip to Singapore to attend the AWS Summit there. It was actually a three-day affair with partner and networking sessions, but I didn't have time to spare for that. I registered for the last day of the summit. According to the schedule, registration started at 7:30 AM, so the coordinator suggested that I fly in the night before. I packed an overnight bag, and went straight to the airport after work. Ate my dinner at Plaza Premium Lounge, which was a bit stressful because they were operating over their capacity due to renovation works. It was a constant battle to keep my seat. While waiting for my gate to open, I spotted Peng Joon, some motivational speaker whose sponsored FB ads often pop up on my feed. Malindo delayed my flight and by the time I landed in Changi T3, it was nearly 10 PM. Surprised that upon arrival, we were herded through some brand new 3D security scanners. Luckily that didn't take long. Immigration clearan...

Cafe Celebrities: Coffee Cory

Image
Once again, I reward you with a cutie break. Today's spycam cutie is a contribution from my darling KH. An excellent poly boy specimen with strong-looking legs. If you ever order Coffee Cory from the counter at Jewel Cafe , definitely go for the fresh cream ( and fresh meat ).

MRT Celebrities: Sporty Sean

Image
Seeing that my NHK style travel documentary posts had put my readers into a coma, it's time for a breather. Today's MRT Celebrity, Sporty Sean was brought to you by the one and only KH. KH spotted this bicep-y beauty during one of his business trips in Singapore. Looks like some post-work physical activity judging from the work bag between his legs. Perhaps he also had something else between his legs. Haha. Anyway, my only wish would be for his shorts to be shorter! Enjoy.

Swift Singapore

Image
Out of the blue, I was summoned to Singapore for a meeting with several of my colleagues. It was about some demo for my Brunei client. The partner's office was in Singapore, so we went down there. Arrived at KLIA2 bright and early. I didn't feel like McDonald's that day, so I went to ToastBox instead. I swung my teaspoon against the large soft-boiled egg and the whole thing just disintegrated in my hands. The table was a mess! Big eggs, VERY thin shell. The flight was uneventful, which is of course desirable. The immigration counter was kinda swamped at Changi, and it was partly due to a whole bunch of Korean tourists who did not know how to fill in their arrival cards. Since the last time I came to Singapore for work, the office had moved to a different building. All glass and modern furniture, with a pantry that looks like something out of Google HQ. The meeting went well and by lunch time it was over. My CEO took us to lunch at .... wait for it .... wait for it .....

SAFRApore IV: Going Home

Image
It was time to checkout so we made good use of the bed for one last time. Still had a little time, so we went to the food court at Old Airport Road. Ate some fish soup and prawn noodles. Really old school there as most of the hawkers spoke Cantonese. Took the bus back and I spied a really horrible sign inside: The Malay is ... ugh ( no pineapple pen here ). Hate the sentence structure. We finished packing and took the MRT to Changi. Met up with Tater there who was catching his flight back to Bangkok. Tater passed us some egg custard mooncakes ( I dunno why this is popular ) from Hong Kong. Due to some weird circumstances, ZR was in Hong Kong for a day trip and he bought some back. Although it was a short trip, we managed to meet many friends and made good use of the time. P.S.: Tater's cookies didn't the survive the flight back to KL. Had to improvise a bit. I scooped some chocolate pecan ice cream, put in some sliced bananas and sprinkled liberal amount of cookie cr...

SAFRApore III: The Half (Sweaty SG Boys Inside)

Image
At the designated ungodly hour, KH got up, donned his skanky pants, kissed me and went off to catch a cab to City Hall for the SAFRA Army Half Marathon . Flag off was at 5:00 AM. With sleep still thick on my eyes, I just gave him a few grunts of encouragement before falling back to sleep. Being the good hubby, I dragged myself to the 200 M mark before the finishing line to give KH some encouragement. The night before, Tater had given me instructions on the best place to wait. Unfortunately, I ended up on the wrong side of the road. But still, I kept my eyes peeled for KH. He was supposed to be done by 8:00 AM, but I didn't catch sight of him. Many more 10 KM runners compared to the 21.5 KM. Could easily tell them apart because they wore different colours. Suddenly, at 8:30AM, I received a call from KH. Rushed over to the Padang to meet him. Found him at the AIG tent with a black face. Turns out that DiGi's roaming had failed him and he had to borrow someone's phone to cal...
