Merdeka in Singapore II: Time for Friends
The next morning, I woke up to an empty house. KH and Tater had gone for a morning run, and came home in sweat-drenched running tights. Quite the morning sight. The two lads got freshened up, and we went out to look for breakfast. When in Rome, do as the Romans do-- have breakfast at Yakun. Haha. Tater's favourite haunt is at Fortune Centre. A regular there. That Yakun is also popular with tourists due to its close proximity to several hotels.
Tanked up on kaya butter toast, soft-boiled eggs, and kopi c, KH and I went to Fort Canning to admire the long queue of humans trying to get a shot at the 'tree tunnel'. Not only tourists lined up, but also newlyweds. Quickly left and headed to Fong Sheng Hao at NEX to meet up with Justin and his 'superhero' kid, Sen. There was some good news that he managed to enrol his son into public school despite his complicated health conditions, but his custody battle with his ex-wife was far from over. Sen actually complained to his dad about my ripped jeans, and recommended that I visit his grandmother to get it patched up. LOL. At NEX, I actually bumped into my church member again, and her innocent son let slip what they were doing in Singapore:
Moi: What are you doing in Singapore?
Church Member: Settling some chores.
Moi: (talking to her son) How about you?
Kid: Follow mummy go buy house.
Haha. The cat is out of the bag.
My ex-colleagues knew that I was in town, she they they invited me to a reunion drinking session at Long Bar, Raffles Hotel. Brought KH along and introduced him as my hubby. One of the rare occasions that I introduce KH to straight friends (KH's definitely more out than I am). They didn't bat an eyelid, and I am glad that they went along well. Posh place, and love how they maintained the colonial flavour of the place. No visit to Long Bar is complete without ordering the Singapore Sling, and munching on groundnuts. Tradition dictates that one should litter the floor with groundnut shells. Guess Singaporeans get a kick out of this place with 'legal littering'.
In the evening, we had a double dinner date with Tater and his boyfriend, Bubu. Bubu is a Chinese national who has been working in Singapore for a while. It was our first time meeting them together. Started off with cocktails at NCO Club then followed up with a great dinner at Madam Fan. Got to love the Mou Tai ice cream. Tater and Bubu seemed comfortable with each other, and he's nice to talk to. We took an evening stroll around the area before calling it a night.
