The Night Before Christmas (Northern Edition)

Image
One power nap later, KH and I were ready to start our Penang adventure. First order of business was dinner. The Tribe and my mum were already waiting for us at Lorong Baru , which was just a short walk away from our hotel. Plenty of good food at that open air night market. Before I tucked into those Penang goodies, I started with curry noodles that my sister packed from Kuala Sepetang. Who would have thought that a pack of cold curry noodles could taste so good? Imagine when its piping hot! According to my mum, the curry is made from a seafood stock that's full of prawns! Then we started on the yummy Penang food~ Char Kway Teow , Lobak , ABC ( the syrup they use is out of this world ), and the vile Heko CCF . And it was such a small world that we bumped into Sol at the makan-makan place. We still had time to kill before midnight mass at Our Lady of Sorrows, so went searching for dessert. Mama Bang was a mistake. After we had cam-whored at the shop, we took one look at the menu, a

Driving Up Till Christmas

Bright and early the next day, KH and I had hand-drip coffee and pastries, before starting our road trip. Didn't make any proper stops until we reached Bidor. Explored the morning market a bit, and shared a bowl of noodles.  Roamed around the thoroughfare on foot, admiring the old shop lots. Even took a brief look at the tacky Petai Lane, and a giant fruits monument ( something that small town councils like to do ). Based on a recommendation in Google Maps, we had our second Bidor breakfast at Restoran Mee Wah . The wantan noodles were supposedly good, but it was NASTY! Generic kopitiam wantan noodles in KL taste much better. I couldn't touch the noodles after one bite. Horrid lye water after taste. And the meat can't be described as charsiew . Made a run for it after the old man at the goldsmith wasn't too happy that I took a photo of his shopfront. Perhaps he thought I might be scoping out the place for a robbery!  Continued our journey towards the limestone hills of

Christmas 2021 Comes Early

Image
Christmas 2021 was celebrated up north for a change. After the Winter Solstice celebration ( hotpot dinner, and pumpkin soya bean tang yuan ), the kids raided the Christmas tree and opened all their presents. The Tribe started their journey early because they liked a leisurely drive along the trunk roads. Mum tagged along with The Tribe, so I had some quality time with KH. The day before Christmas eve, KH came over to my place. Both of us worked from home. He packed lunch for me, and later in the evening we had dinner at a Chinese restaurant. The whole day we had roast chicken, roast duck, and char siew . Only the siew yuk was missing! Without saying, we also fooled around, but we made sure we got enough rest because there was a long drive ahead of us the next morning.

The morning started off really wet. But the rain didn't deter mum and I from going for our morning walk at Taman Saujana Hijau. Nothing a hoodie or an umbrella couldn't solve. Also we were dead set to pick up some pine needles to complete the mini manger in our nativity scene! Haha. Breakfast was a piping hot bowl of fishball noodles at Restoran Jin Man in Equine Park. Then I had to make a trip to Pos Laju Balakong which was 16 kilometers away to collect my parcel. This day and age, they still suck at delivery. They will never call, and just leave you a "failed delivery" notice. Come on, no courier does that anymore. Comes as no surprise that they are in the red by more than 100 million. Luckily I did not run into the flash floods that was reported in Balakong. In the evening, it was time to visit Pavilion Bukit Jalil ( PBJ - like peanut butter and jelly hor? ), the latest mall in my neighbourhood. KH and I kept putting off the visit because we heard that it was less
