Big Sick, Small Sick

Image
I was tasked to buy salted fish from the market. Came as a surprise that Sri Lankans like that stuff. They eat stuff like sambal ikan masin . Got him several chunks of the premium threadfin salted fish. Expensive stuff. For breakfast, mum and I shared curry noodles. Just the day before, SK was warded at Sunway Medical Center for acute abdominal pain. Turns out that she had a condition where water accumulated in her abdominal cavity. No reason was found even after an endoscopy and colonoscopy. The day after, mum and I brought big monster to see the GP after noticing him developing rashes with a lingering fever. He was diagnosed with chicken pox. Little Monster practically shunned his brother when he found out that his brother was developing blisters all over his body. Pushed him away and called him "disgusting". Brutal.

Live @ 18

Image
The Success Together Global Convention was back again at Setia City Convention Center with the theme Live @ 18. KH was lucky enough to have been chosen as one of the crew for the event. Always fun to be able to check out some hunks among the TR90 Superstars. Brought mum along as well. Mum and I only stayed for the events on Friday and Saturday. On Friday night we stayed at a nearby AirBnB and left on Saturday night after supper with KH at Restoran Syed Abu . The food and service was meh , but it was the only option in the area. Until next year.

MRT Celebrities: Office Otis

Image
Office Otis looks so straight kan ? Strong jaw, tall, and handsome. Who can resist that macho face in formal wear? But of course I'd strip him out of those baggy clothes and get him some tighter-fitting clothes. Probably some stuff with spandex mix from Zara. Judging from those veins on his arms, he works out some too. Perfect guy to 'OT' with till the wee hours.

MRT Celebrities: Athletic Archie

Image
Spotted this abang sado , Athletic Archie on the MRT while I was commuting to work. From his kit, he's a trainer at CHI Fitness. I admit that this isn't a very good shot, but I couldn't peel my eyes off his calves and biceps. Can also catch a glimpse of his hairy legs. Should have asked him about CHI's 'free sessions'.

Dim Birthday

Image
Some four days after my birthday, KH jio -ed me for dinner, just the two of us at Work @ Clearwater. Grabbed a GRAB to the building at Bukit Damansara. He made reservations at Way Modern Chinois , a place for modern Chinese cuisine. The security guard assured me that the restaurant was in the building, but I couldn't spot the entrance. I doubled checked the address. Then I noticed an elevator door printed with "THIS WAY TO MODERN CHINESE CUISINE". "Oh, upstairs kah?", I thought and proceeded to press the button. The door opened and I was confused again because that very well wasn't an elevator. Turns out that the restaurant was hiding behind that tiny door. Not exactly good feng shui for business with an entrance like that. The interior was pretty dark with each table an island of light thanks to the small spotlights in the ceiling. Although hidden, had quite a number of customers. KH arrived later than me, so I had time to pore through the menu. With

Thai With TummyFull

Image
Here's some of the latest shots from my usual Saturday PasarPride routine: A new vendor selling fermented black beans, fermented black beans, hot bean paste, and some varieties of nuts. The black beans were really fragrant, great for dishes like bitter gourd chicken. Fermented olives used to be real popular go-together for porridge. When I was little, 'sea chicken' used to be common dish on my dinner table. Mum would batter the weird-looking fish, fry it, and serve it with some sauteed onion rings. Doesn't really taste like chicken, and the fish has a natural stone-like ballast that is quite unique. Today, the fish is no longer cheap. A new stall popped up selling healthy breakfast options. The sandwich with purple and yellow sweet potato paste was really eye-catching. However, the pasar veterans still preferred the deep-fried sweet potato balls, and  ham chim peng ! SimonLover arranged dinner that night with TummyFull. Wasn't easy coming up with

Balloons For Bulan

Image
For some reason, I had stayed away from Mutiara Damansara for many a year. eCurve, Ikano Power Center, and IKEA didn't excite mum and I anymore. A recent sponsored post on Facebook alerted me about beautiful balloon art at IPC ( Ikano rebranded ) in conjunction with the mid-autumn festival, so I decided to go take a look. I was shocked to find that IPC was a complete transformation. The place underwent an IKEA-fication. There was a big food court at the lower ground, but it was a little claustrophobic due to the close quarters and low ceiling. But that's my only complain. The rest of the space was great. We ate lunch at Hana Japanese Dining , a fusion Japanese restaurant from Taiwan. I love the menu for the simple fact that it's unusual. Many new things to try. From their hors d'oeuvres menu, I chose a sampling trio. What tickled my taste buds the most was the Hawaiian Maki, a rice-less roll using salmon belly. And the it has a nice crunch from all the fish roe. T

Celebrating The Chief

Image
A beef noodles stall at Eng Huat Kopitiam at OUG had upgraded and moved into a shop lot with the name Niu Niu Kulai Beef Noodle . Depending on you preference, you can pimp up your beef noodles with several condiments found on the table. Try adding preserved radish, chopped Chinese celery,  and chili sauce. Truth be told, I found it underwhelming and a tad too expensive. Later in the afternoon, I got my haircut. Left it a bit longer than usual. Perfect timing because I had a BFF birthday dinner later. It was The Chief's birthday. Janvier asked me for a venue and I recommended Shin Zushi , Jalil Link. Kinda regretted my decision because the road heading there was choked up due to the stupid traffic light near the KESAS intersection. Not many turned up for dinner, just Khatijah, JL, SK, KH, and of course Janvier. SK did the ordering, and it ended up a mini salmon banquet. Didn't venture far for our post-dinner coffee session. Walked up to Owl's Cafe and got The C

Pan Mee, Pavilion, and Pork Soup

Image
My Sunday lunch was a simple meal at Ha Ha Pan Mee and Little Thai Cuisine at Aman Suria. Recently developed a liking for Loh Pan Mee . A word of warning, this shop doesn't make a very good loh . Went to Pavilion after that for a bit of shopping. Didn't buy much of anything. Stopped at Dean and Deluca to rest our legs. Malaysia's first branch and it's pretty basic. Limited menu, simple store design, and no products on sale. Apple crumble' and flat white is pretty decent. From Pavilion, we went to Tung Shin Hospital to visit my uncle from Sungai Burung who had been warded due to a stroke. More alert now, but he had his hands and legs restrained because he kept trying to pull out his feeding tube and get out of bed. The acupuncture treatments had begun but still no noticeable improvement. Later in the evening, we fetched our cousin out to dinner at Jalan Tun HS Lee. He loves the pork soup there. Pork is not something that he eats often in the fishing v

An Early 38th

Image
The morning market was abuzz with Mid-autumn Festival vibes. One vendor sold a giant mooncake in a butter cookie tin! That baby went for MYR128 and contained 8 artery-clogging salted egg yolks. Wonder how many he managed to sell. My breakfast was at Charlie's Cafe to take advantage of the B1F1 Entertainer App promotion. Had a Curry Laksa and Nasi Lemak. In my opinion, the curry laksa trumps the Laksa Sarawak. Quite spicy and comes with a thinly sliced chicken katsu. The Nasi Lemak's rendang chicken was also nice, but it was a modified recipe with the chicken lightly fried before combined with rendang paste. SK organized an early 38th birthday dinner for me to suit her busy work schedule. Mum and KH also joined. We ate at Pier 12 Seafood Tavern , Old Malaya. Got some happy hour cocktails, and shared their big seafood platter. On top of that, we had a delicious crab soup with Indian spices, and some steak. Fired up Google Maps to find a nearby coffee place and we sett

Seeing Sembilan II: Serene Seremban

Continued from here. Rain started falling after we Titi, so we weren't sure if it was a good idea to proceed to Jeram Toi, a waterfall in a reserved forest. Told the bus driver to risk it. Armed with umbrellas, we walked in to the recreation area. Although it was drizzling, there were plenty of people in the water. But truth be told, Jeram Toi doesn't score high marks in natural beauty. The authorities had decided to cement the pool at the base of the falls with no objective the natural features. Irrigation locks and haphazard black water pipes are the main aesthetics. The water looked murky and stagnant with loads of people frolicking in it. Hmmmm. Some of the more adventurous risked the wet slopes to get to the higher waterfall. I just loitered around the main area. Towards the end, some of us did get into the water. From Jeram Toi, we proceeded to Church of the Visitation, the oldest parish in the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur, dating back to 1848. The current church b
