Didn't Know

Image
When we first visited the orthopaedic surgeon at the end of 2019, he did suggest that my mum try ultrasound therapy for her bursitis. We dilly-dallied for more than half a year trying medication, gels, and medicated plasters. By the time mum got frustrated enough to try the physiotherapy, the referral letter had expired. Lucky for us, the process of getting it renewed didn't require us to get another appointment with the specialist. With the new letter issued, we could proceed with the therapy. It was just fifteen minutes of running an ultrasound wand over mum's heel. She didn't feel a thing. At the end of the session, the physiotherapist showed her some stretches, and showed her how she should ice her heel. That session cost MYR50 with no waiting time required.  Didn't know where to have breakfast, but we somehow ended up having curry noodles at Restoran New Lian Hin . I had a lunch date with KH, but we didn't know what to eat either. The universe led us to Yamatat

Go Gynae

Eighteen days into the MCO, mum suddenly remembered about her quarterly gynaecology follow-up at Bandar Puteri Puchong. I quickly called up the clinic, and they sent me a doctor's letter via What's App. And luckily, her appointment card was scribbled with the exact date-- the 4th of April. During those early stages, police roadblocks were all over the place, and vehicles should not have passengers. But we had a good justification when we were stopped below the BK5 LRT station. The policeman gave my What's App letter a cursory glance, but decided to scrutinize the appointment card instead. He waved us through a couple of minutes later. At the clinic, it was business as usual, just that the nurses wore face shields over surgical masks. You Noodles House which was our usual breakfast spot every time we visited the area was not open. Anyway, it was a little exciting to be able to get out of the house, although it was just to visit the doctor's office.

Mum's heel was still hurting regardless of the multiple visits to the orthopaedic specialist at Tung Shin. Decided to try TDMC instead. Waiting times were much better there. The doctor told us that it was bursitis and would not go away so easily. He switched the medication, and recommended mum to undergo shock-wave therapy to clear off the inflammation. With the medical consultation out if the way, we went to get some comfort food at Kuchai Lama. Been wanting to try the curry noodles at Restoran New Lian Hin . We weren't disappointed. The curry was really thick and creamy. As if it wasn't sinful enough, we had the buburchacha too. Another explosion of santan with starchy chunks of yam and sweet potato. Although it was already late, we still made a quick stop at OUG market. Still managed to get some marketing done. In the evening, we received a dinner invitation from SK and Bryanisation. Shocked when they said that it was gonna be HaiDiLao . The pair of them actu

Big Sick, Small Sick

I was tasked to buy salted fish from the market. Came as a surprise that Sri Lankans like that stuff. They eat stuff like sambal ikan masin . Got him several chunks of the premium threadfin salted fish. Expensive stuff. For breakfast, mum and I shared curry noodles. Just the day before, SK was warded at Sunway Medical Center for acute abdominal pain. Turns out that she had a condition where water accumulated in her abdominal cavity. No reason was found even after an endoscopy and colonoscopy. The day after, mum and I brought big monster to see the GP after noticing him developing rashes with a lingering fever. He was diagnosed with chicken pox. Little Monster practically shunned his brother when he found out that his brother was developing blisters all over his body. Pushed him away and called him "disgusting". Brutal.

Vacant Visit

Image
Received a notice from my developer that the condo I had invested in with my sister and co. was ready for vacant possession. I was surprised that buyers needed to make an appointment for that. Each session accommodated about ten buyers or so in a small room at the club house that was equipped with a projector. While waiting for the rest to arrive, I helped myself to the refreshments ( cakes and a coffee machine ). The briefing started at around noon. The customer service representative explained the welcome kit which was a folder containing all the keys and access cards. Other topics discussed included the electronic door lock, community mobile app, and the defect and renovation procedures. Once we got all the boring stuff out of the way, they escorted us to our units for the initial inspection. A boring process of counting the electrical points and fixtures. Discovered that they missed out the toilet roll holder in the master bedroom. I had no other complaints about the unit. Th

Once in a while, SK joins mum and I for our morning marketing session. I also took the chance to retest my blood sugar and cholesterol level at a clinic in OUG. Afterwards, we had breakfast together at my favourite noodle stall with a side dish of roast duck. Totally awesome. Brought her to The Hub  for coffee too. Went home and rested for a bit before going out again to attend the pre-Parish Assembly at church. Don't you just hate meetings before the meeting? I left during the tea break and joined mum and SK at the chiropractor's office. Their sessions dragged till late afternoon. A church member's mother had been hospitalized, so we made a trip to Assunta Hospital to see how she was doing. We were told that she had lost all renal function. But looking at her bed chart, she had high blood pressure and diabetes too. The old lady was conscious but not very lucid. She kept complaining that her rosary had missing beads. Behind all that medical problems was also some fami

Check Your Neck

Image
Ever since mum came back from her East Coast trip, she complained of pains in her shoulder and arms. I gave her nightly massages, but it didn't seem to go away. Best choice was to see the doctor. Revisited the Orthopaedic surgeon in Tung Shin. Her last visit was in 2009! Arrived at Tung Shin bright and early, but obviously not early enough because there was already a crowd at the waiting area. Turns out that the queue number begins at 7:00 AM! Oh well. For some reason, the hospital attracts loads of PRC patients. When it came to our turn, the doctor asked mum some questions and did his thing. He surmised that she must have hurt herself during the long drive. Not good to sit without back and neck support, with your head lolling about during the car ride. Bound to hurt some muscles and nerves. He gave her medication and advised her to do daily neck and shoulder exercises. Hopefully she will be diligent. The last I remembered, Tung Shin had a manual parking payment system. Got a sur

Guardian Angel

Image
Scary looking fella ain't he? Like some pagan disco god. Found him being 'worshipped' at Taman Desa Medical Centre (TDMC) when I was there at midnight. I'm sure the staff meant it to be an angel. A guardian angel. For the second time in the final quarter of 2014, Little Monster visited TDMC's Accident & Emergency Department. Luckily it was nothing serious. The poor kids seems to be always caught in an 'accident' situation. May his guardian angels look over him and keep him safe.

Dr. Ika?

Got a frantic call from SK on Friday night telling me that Apollo's mum cut her finger on her car door. Huh? Car door? What's sharp about that? According to her, the cut was quite bad and the bleeding didn't stop. She wanted to know whether the Klinik Alam Medic near my place is a 24 hour clinic. Half an hour later, she called me again. The doctor referred her to Hospital Serdang! Funny thing was, the locum doctor was writing her a referral letter. Kalau dah nak pergi Jabatan Kecemasan pun nak referral letter ke? SK had just touched down from Vietnam that evening and was quite exhausted. So she requested me to drive them to the hospital. During the drive there, I questioned her regarding the injury and the visit to the clinic. Turns out that Apollo's mum slammed her the car door on her finger. And the impact made her skin split and finger turn swollen. Now that made more sense. And the locum doctor gave many excuses not to give her stitches, saying that he was uns

Red Letter Day

Tuesday was Wesak, so SK arranged for a breakfast gathering at Coffee Factor , Setiawalk. Just as I was gonna drive out, I received a call from SK. She was having a serious nose bleed again! Jeng jeng jeng . Told her to call her doctor. Off I went to tapau breakfast for her granny and Apollo's mum. Upon arrival at her apartment, I saw her with two packs of ice on her face and a large towel over her mouth. When she removed the towel, her whole chin was dripping with blood. Whoah! Immediately rushed her to the Pantai Hospital A&E where her doctor was already waiting. SK: Doc! I wanted to go out to eat breakfast, then this happened! Doc: I wanted to go eat breakfast too, then you called! First thing he did was irrigate her nasal cavity with loads of saline solution. Sooooo much blood. Then he gave her a shot to stop the bleeding. Fearing a repeat, the doctor warded her for observation. Couldn't really think where else to go for food, so mum and I followed the original
