Mooncakes at the Park

Image
Once a year, my BEC organizes an outing. In the pre-pandemic days, we would usually have a day trip. In the past, we had ventured as far as Melaka. In such restrictive times, we settled for a small gathering at the Bukit Jalil Recreational Park. Bright and early, we had a socially-distanced warm up session on a grassy field. Then some of us went for a jog, while the rest opted for a Taichi session. At the end of the gathering, we had a breakfast potluck. For the first time ever, I had mooncakes for breakfast.   At night, we had a Japanese dinner at Zakuro , Bukit Jalil. Food there was pretty good, and the owner was very friendly. Then KH went to buy a whole burnt cheesecake from Say Cheese Cafe . After that, we had a short grocery shopping trip to Super Seven. Stopped at Nyonya Platter for a yumcha session. Their sets were so attractive we abandoned the idea of just ordering drinks. Ended up with teh tarik , sirap ros , asam laksa, and kaya butter toast. As though we weren't stu

Mystery Leak

Image
For the past several years, my house had been plagued by a mystery leak. The problem affected the master bedroom toilet. Whenever the master bedroom water inlet was unlocked, the whole water tank would empty within a few hours with no sign of where the water went. No leaking, no ponding, nothing. Mind-boggling. Because of that, we kept the water inlet locked. Two plumbers couldn't diagnose the problem. Perhaps they thought it was too troublesome a problem, and didn't want to get involved. The third plumber we engaged pin-pointed the problem fairly quickly. When I described the problem to him, he already knew where the problem was. He lived in my area, and had already encountered similar issues at other houses. I was completely dumbfounded when he told me that the problem originated from my porch. He told me to unlock the water inlet and put my ear to the ground near a pillar at my porch. Originally that pillar had a tap which we had sealed more than a decade ago. He was right,

The Benefits of Working From Home

Image
The MCO had introduced working from home to many who never had the 'luxury'. In my whole working life, I never worked from home before. And I saw so many benefits : 1. No morning commute. 2. More sleep ( refer to previous point ). 3. No dress code.  4. No office clothes to iron ( refer to previous point ). 5. No evening commute ( where Netflix standstills are common ).  6. Do whatever the heck you want because nobody is watching you.  For me, the last point is the best. Working from home is the biggest boost to my sex life. I have the whole house to myself, and KH would come over for a quick shag provided I didn't have any concalls. He jokingly suggested that he could suck me off while I was in the call. I would very much prefer being fucked. Does an orgasm increase productivity throughout the day? How ethical is it to be skanking on company's time? Or do I need to record my skank sessions into my timesheet?

More Marcuse

Image
Ever since I got my first pair of Marcuse swim trunks , I was impressed with the quality of the Australian brand. It was a yellow pair with a cute doggy decal at the side. Wore it once , and I was hooked. Out in the sun, the vibrant yellow was really eye-catching, and most importantly the fit was good, and the Italian lycra from Carvico was very comfortable. And so, I was itching for a second purchase, and it happened in September during one of their sales. Bought another two pairs although I don't really need them. And remember my post about having too many? LOL. What do you think of my choices? P.S. : Never have I put some links in one post!

Krazy Korean

Image
Been a while since mum and I had Korean for dinner, so I thought to revisit our favourite Restoran Seoul Korea at Taman Desa. Knowing how bad the weekend crowd can be, we arrived five minutes before 6 PM. Know what? That wasn't early enough. There was a forty minute wait ahead of us. In usual cases, I wouldn't wait, but since we already had our hearts set on it.... It was quite crazy actually. At 6 PM, there was a large crowd that exited the restaurant. Must have started eating at 5! Anyway, it was worth the wait. Ordered my regular spicy kimchi tofu soup and a portion of grilled pork.  Once we had our fill, we went to a nearby China grocery store named Yigo. Think they took over the shoplot from Signature Fei Fei Crab. I was fascinated by the sheer varieties of vacuum packed chicken leg snacks that they carry! Salt-baked, mala , with bone, deboned. You name it, they have it. Pig trotters too! Bought some instant noodles-- no guys to try the chicken feet yet!

Best Before Party

Image
KH asked me to meet him at Teddy Cafe at Zenith Corporate Park. Bloody had to make two u-turns on LDP because I kept missing the junction and there was only one access road to the place. He was there because of his mum's dental appointment. Cooled down with a cute bear-y affogato. I melted its face off with a shot of espresso. Loitered there as long as we could before heading off to our next appointment. Once in a while, SimonLover invites a bunch of friends over to his condo for a dinner. When we arrive, he always looks stressed while preparing the food. He would be fretting in the kitchen in his short shorts.  Surely we offer a helping hand, but he usually shoo-es us out of the kitchen. He would rather we wait in the living room and watch Netflix ( have to get the parental lock code from him.... whatttttt.... ).  That night, we had our usual guests-- Khatijah, ForIHaveSinned, JJ, Bunny, KH, and KH's  anak  Mic. Traditionally, the main dish was BKT. He had one pot with lean m

Bubble Tea Generation

Image
There's a Tealive  located in the Petronas station in my neighbourhood. Because it's just a stone's throw from the school entrance makes it an extremely strategic location. Secondary school students swarm the place after the last bell. While waiting for their school bus or their parents to pick them up, they get a cup of bubble tea. Very different when compared with my past. Never would have spent MYR6.90 ( assuming the cheapest option ) on a drink! Didn't have that spending power. And of course back then, there wasn't such a thing as bubble tea. Wouldn't even contemplate going to the mamak for a drink. By default, it was the school canteen. Back then, splurging was getting keropok lekor AND ais krim ikat . LOL.  Bubble tea will be what Little Monster and Big Monster will reminisce about in the future.

Clean My Pipes

Image
Mum signed up for a pipe cleaning service to support a friend. The purpose of the treatment is to clean household piping using a purpose-built water pulsator and a mixture of natural acids . At the end of the treatment, years of built-up residue in the pipes would be washed out, improving the quality of the water, and the pressure of the water flow. The process is pretty troublesome, as they need to disconnect the water main, then perform the cleaning process at several points of the house, e.g. kitchen, bathrooms, and main inlet. All require some piping work to connect the special water pump to the piping. The cleaning solution is pumped in, then flushed out from the faucets. Depending on the location, the effluent can range from yellowish to brownish in colour, The odour differs too. Luckily my house was spared from the monthly Selangor water pollution problem, so we didn't have to reschedule. The kid that mum used to babysit in Kuantan was leaving for the UK to further his studi

Baptism Then BKT

Image
My 12-year old Godson ( a blurry-eyed boy of little words ) was supposed to be baptized during Easter Vigil this year. But the planned baptism didn't happen due to the MCO. The last I saw him was during the Rite of Election that was held at Holy Family Church, Kajang. When the situation improved, and the SOPs for religious rites matured, the Archbishop gave the green light. And so my Godson was baptized in September. Unlike the pre-Covid baptism, this was much simpler, and was devoid of the eucharistic celebration. They would receive their communion the next day, during Sunday mass. And the Godparents usually put their right hands on the right shoulders of their Godchildren as a sign of support, but that's not allowed now. Attendance of family and friends was minimal, and would require prior registration. Even the group photo at the end of the rite was well-spaced out according to social distancing rules. Baptisms is an important life event, and I must say that baptism during

Sunday at Cyber

Image
KH alerted me to the existence an Instagrammable place in Cyberjaya called Tamarind Square . In today's market, it's not enough to serve good food, have good variety, or sell something that is special, the architecture and design of the venue must also be attractive. The place is actually just a little down the road from D'Pulze if you're familiar with the area. When I turned in, I realized that they do not collect parking fees, and the place still looked to be under construction.  According to the website, Tamarind Square is an attempt at "reinventing the village charm" with an urban village concept. Community meets commercial meets arts and culture. Reminds me of an episode of South Park.  The design is a meld of Malaysia shophouse, shopping mall, and village square. All connected with bare concrete, steel, and greenery. Brought to you by the same people behind PJ Trade Centre. We emerged from the parking lot right at the so-called village square. Retail spa

Petaling Street Pastu Petai

Image
Dropped mum off at KLSCAH for an afternoon meeting with her women's chapter buddies. I parked my car at Zhong Shan Building hoping to kill time at Tommy Le Baker. Unfortunately, it was a full house. The afternoon sun was at its zenith, but I had no choice but to take the number eleven bus to Petaling Street in search for lunch. Walked up and down, and read a few menus, but nothing really caught my interest. Hawker Chan, the Michelin star soy sauce chicken rice from Singapore had zero customers. The Hungry Tapir was expensive vegan food. Ho Kow was... well the usual Ho Kow chaos. KafeiDian was also at full capacity. Not too sure about Luckin Kopi either. Didn't want to do Merchant's Lane too. In the end, I sat down at Restoran Jawa An-Nur , an Indonesian restaurant that serves a pretty good pecel lele . I sat there for hours with a mug of hot  kopi c . From my observation, its very popular among the contractors from the nearby Merdeka PNB118 construction site. Guestimating

Sinful Xin and Chocolate-y Coffee

Image
Mum, KH, and I ventured to KL's Golden Triangle to have a dim sum breakfast at Xin Cusine , Concorde Hotel. Heard good things about it, so decided to give it a try. Not very common in Malaysia for a hotel to serve pork in its restaurant. Parking is a bit weird at Concorde Hotel with a separate multi-level car park located behind the hotel. Basically guests have to traverse the 'back alley' and 'service routes' to get to the hotel proper. Xin Cuisine is looks like a very traditional banquet hall, complete with golden dragons crawling up the columns. Very much like Melia Hotel. Not much of a crowd, but could guess that many of the tables were occupied by regulars. They serve cart style dim sum, a dying practice. My favourite items were the wu kok , cheen tui , and HK CCF! Then we were off to Pavilion for a short jalan-jalan session. Tokyo Street was all decked out for Tanabata. Ate lunch there too-- ramen at Santouka . Sigh, the ramen was such a far cry from the bran

Paktorloji

Image
Once in a while, KH and I have a paktor session. For convenience's sake, we met up at Bukit Jalil City, the commercial area adjacent to Pavilion 2. Our dinner was at Viola Flower Cafe . Not quite a flower-themed cafe. Just a bunch of flowers on the ceiling and at the entrance. The cheesy churros turned out to be a chicken chop sandwiched by two spiral churros, and then topped with melted cheese. The lousy waiter botched it, and let the cheese overflow onto the table! Didn't bother to apologize. Truth be told, the venue wasn't ideal for a paktor session because the place was crawling with little girls having a birthday party.      Quickly left after eating to find a quieter place. Bawangchaji  sounded like a fried chicken shop to me, but it's actually a tea joint franchise from China. When I walked in, I was pretty surprised that they had a classy, pine-based interior. The place was quiet, and the air-conditioning was at full blast. Good place to talk heart while shari

Sorry Swimtrunks

Image
Must say sorry to my swimtrunks because it really has been ages since I visited the pool. My swimwear have been neglected. They are at risk of disintegrating. Several of the older pairs from Private Structure have begun to dry out. Can hear the lycra fibers breaking when I stretch it. Time to give the bunch a quick wash. For future maintenance, perhaps I should periodically wear them like underwear? Use them for sex sessions? Hmmm. Perhaps stop buying more? Nahhhh! Hahaha.

Treating TummyFull

Image
KH arranged a small birthday dinner with TummyFull at Little Bing , Sri Petaling. The restaurant looked classy and would impress most dinner guests. According to one of the reviews on Google Maps, both the owners were from the hotel industry in Singapore. When dining there, the signature fish pot is recommended. But since there was only three of us, it didn't make sense to order that premium dish. We opted for the spinach in fish soup which used the same soup base. It was pretty good, and had strips of fried sweet beancurd skin for added texture. We weren't alone in the restaurant. Another table was occupied by some lawyers talking business. One 'aunty' was particularly annoying with her whiny and loud voice dominating the whole place.  After dinner, we explored the area for tong sui . Found Tang Tang Dazhangfu , a place that looked very much like a Hong Kong char chan teng . Anyway, the tong sui was vile. Utter rubbish. Hahaha. Guess we owe him a tong sui treat!

Didn't Know

Image
When we first visited the orthopaedic surgeon at the end of 2019, he did suggest that my mum try ultrasound therapy for her bursitis. We dilly-dallied for more than half a year trying medication, gels, and medicated plasters. By the time mum got frustrated enough to try the physiotherapy, the referral letter had expired. Lucky for us, the process of getting it renewed didn't require us to get another appointment with the specialist. With the new letter issued, we could proceed with the therapy. It was just fifteen minutes of running an ultrasound wand over mum's heel. She didn't feel a thing. At the end of the session, the physiotherapist showed her some stretches, and showed her how she should ice her heel. That session cost MYR50 with no waiting time required.  Didn't know where to have breakfast, but we somehow ended up having curry noodles at Restoran New Lian Hin . I had a lunch date with KH, but we didn't know what to eat either. The universe led us to Yamatat

Fish Don't Get Covid

Image
SimonLover offered me a bunch of entrance tickets to Aquaria KLCC. He had bought the ticket from Klook in 2019 for his brother's family in Singapore, but they never got around to using it. With the ticket expiry looming, he offered me the tickets for free rather than letting go to waste. As part of the SOP, I had to register my visit on their website first to get a confirmation. I guess the logic is to avoid overcrowding. Having said that, they didn't check whether I had a confirmation before letting us in. Go figure. A tip for visitors : online tickets allow you to clear the gantry by scanning a QR code which is much quicker than the manual tickets. Truth be told, I don't there was much social distancing in Aquaria KLCC. The crew could control the crowd in the underwater tunnel, but at the other sections, it was pretty much a free for all. My last visit to the aquarium was in 2008 . Can't be sure, but I think the jellyfish lab is new.  Not sure about the other addition
