Netflix Nights

Image
Working from home bestows the luxury of waking up later. But that does not always translate to more sleep because one tends to sleep later to compensate ! During those nights, I discovered a few interesting Japanese series on Netflix. Midnight Diner : Tokyo Stories Dorohedoro "Midnight Diner" is about a midnight diner. Straightforward. Each episode is a short story that centers around a customer of that diner. The special thing about the diner is that the chef does off-menu orders as long as he has the ingredients. So each episode will center on single dish that regularly ordered by the customer. The characters are very diverse, with many interactions and subtle relationships between the regulars and those who only drop by once in a while. From shopkeepers to strippers to office workers, the stories are equally random and interesting.  "Dorohedoro" is a bizarre anime about two inter-related realms of existence-- The Hole, and the Sorcerers' World. Humans live a ...

Vote for Wantan Mee

Image
Foochow I , swiped from williamnyk on Flickr. With the polls just less than a month away, my parish priest started talking about our rights as voters and that we have a civic duty to vote. During the sermon, he reminded that the rakyat were the bosses and we should not be afraid of changing our government. Not happy? Change. Still not happy? Change again. At the end, a video fom Catholic Research Center & The Council of Churches Malaysia was screened. Responsible stewardship. Something everyone should think about. Suddenly had a hankering for the wantan noodles at Aman Suria, but apparently they had moved again. Difficult to do business there. Shops keeps closing down. Restoran 747 is no longer in business and the spanking new Ipoh Kopitiam just opposite it also went under. Can anyone tell me where they moved to from Restoran Shang Yi Fatt? :(. Ended up at Restoran Yong Hao that serves up Foochow food and dim sum . A horribly hot and stuffy restaurant with the workers c...

A Nippy Palm Sunday

Image
Palm Sunday , swiped from williamnyk on Flickr. On the 24th of March, it was Palm Sunday at church. As usual, palm fronds were distributed and all the flowers in the church were exchanged for palms. Had the short procession going into church exclaiming "Hosanna" and the long reenactment of Jesus on trial before Herod. Finally managed to have lunch at Nippy , though we had to wait for a table to clear up. A rarity for me to wait for tables. Ordered the dry and wet variety of their bamboo noodles. Mum loved it. The crispy texture reminded her of her childhood days. Too bad we couldn't catch the chef of the apprentice making the noodles. The flour is kneaded using a thick bamboo pole and the required pressure is exerted by sitting on the pole ( not THAT ok? ). Should be quite interesting to watch. Since Snowflake was nearby, brought mum there for some dessert. Her first time. Ordered my favourite-- the Sesame Prosperity. Took the deluxe option with extra green tea ice c...

Anno Draco III: CNY Video Exchange

Image
Food for the Soul , swiped from williamnyk on Flickr. Fried bihun was my breakfast on third day of CNY. Basically lazed around at home till about 2:00pm when SK, KH and I went out to meet Janvier for a late lunch at Ka Fei Dian , Amcorp Mall. Ate nasi lemak with a cup of teh c . In addition to catching up, the main purpose was also to continue with Project Video Exchange. I brought my lappie along to copy his collection of "Hercule Poirot" and "Miss Marple". Too bad my laptop ran out of juice before I had the chance to dig through his extensive porn collection. Along the way, we discussed about how cruisy the toilets at Amcorp Mall were based on Pluboy's observation. Never thought that I'd be so lucky to experience the answer personally. I went to use the toilet at the ground floor after having cake and tea at Secret Recipe . The row of of ten urinals were unoccupied when I walked in. I used the seventh urinal from the entrance. And as luck would have...

Guān Yǔ

Image
Guan Yu Swiped from kam kah zen . To many Chinese, Guān Yǔ is a familiar figure immortalized as a Taoist diety in many homes and business premises ( if you watch HK triad movies, he is worshipped by the cops and criminals alike! ). He is often depicted with his Green Dragon Crescent Blade, either standing majestically or riding a horse. Sometimes, the idols are made of him sitting down with a book. From the stories, he is described as someone with a dignified stature, a red face and a long beard. Quite a sight, no? Now, why do I blog about this? Well, because I am a sucker for period dramas and I'm currently watching "三國" although I hardly understand 20% of the dialogue. Episodes 25 through 26 really brought out the cool factor, kinda like how Taiwan pop-star idol shows do it. Much screen time was dedicated to him, where he "crossed five paths and slayed six generals". So invincible! And gotta love how he flicks his beard and wields his blade with a flo...

Everything Under One Roof

Image
jo kwon Swiped from camelle20@ . On Sunday, we went to Kota Damansara for lunch since SK wanted to shop at Houz Depot. Went past Sunway Giza into The Strand and starting looking for a place to eat. That area was more deserted, so parking was a breeze, but it made selecting a lunch venue quite risky as well as it's difficult to gauge if it's good. Ended up at Restoran Korea Bulgogi . The main factor was the giant sign out front that stated "$9 Lunch Sets Daily". LOL. But we ordered something else la. Interesting decor inside and we were the only customers. The waiters at the restaurant beside were sleeping on the chairs. :S. Ordered the dolsot bibimbap and kimchi stew sets. Washed it down with some weird corn tea. The food was quite good actually and we were entertained by a Korean variety show. Jo Kwon from 2AM was the host. Slitty-eyed sexiness. Eemmmm. Not long after we started eating, a woman came into the restaurant mumbling "set, set, set" to the wai...

Teletubby Tales

Image
Swiped from RitchieBITCH Have you ever watched "The Teletubbies"? Yes, the kids show that is in the same infernal league as Barney. Another butch of Dukes from Hell who have set up shop in children's TV. We have Dipsy, Laa-Laa, Po and Tinky-Winky . All of 'em have distinct dildos on their heads and a TV on their bellies that play reruns of B-grade movies all day long. Rumour has it, the purple Teletubby, Tinky-Winky is gay! Haha. But just look at this pic I found in DeviantArt! If ever Bravo took over from BBC, things would look like this. Quite cool. I would definitely watch the show. If you still dunno what the heck I am talking about, do wiki 'em here. Don't say I did not warn you. P.S.: So,which DeviantArt Teletubby do you want to fuck?

Jing Ge Ge, Sa Ge Ge

Image
Legend of the Condor Heroes 2008 Swiped from Ever Star . SK and I just finished watching "The Legend of the Condor Heroes 2008" on DVD. It's a production from China with several HK artistes. 50 episodes in 3 discs. We finished way ahead of schedule cause we used the fast-forward most of the time. The hero Guo Jing can be so annoying. So naive. So loyal. So stupid. Can never get it through his thick head that his brother Yang Kang hates his guts and wants him dead. However, even morons like him get to learn fantastic kung fu and get the pretty girl, Huang Rong. The whole story is a rojak of people from Peach Blossom Island, the Jin kingdom, Mongols, the Beggar Clan, White Camel Mountain, the Quan Zhen Sect and etc. The characters keep running into each other although the geographical location is large and everyone seems to have some kind of unfinished business with everyone else. Talk about convoluted. Basically, it's about fighting to be the No. 1 and the Nine Yin...

Datin WanAbe

Image
On Thursday nights at 10:00pm, there's this short Malay comedy on TV3 entitled Datin Wanabe that really caught my attention. It revolves around a Malay family that's trying VERY HARD to climb up the social ladder. But truth be told, it's just the wife, Kat who desperately wants to do so. She's the star. With her perfect hair, half-inch makeup and awning-like eyelashes, she strives to live the SUPER DATIN life. Her husband, Bakar loves her and pretty much lets her do what she wants although he's just a clerk in the civil service. While her children, Faiz and Fazi are often the victims of her machinations. Then there's the maid who doesn't look like the maid. Kat is forever showing off to the neighbours, making calls to her fellow Datins and just generally being annoying and deluded. Here are some of my favourite scenes: Kat: Saya mahu Faiz jadi HO-MO-SEK-SUAL. Fazi: HAR! ME-TRO-SEK-SUAL la Mak.... Kat: ME-TRO-SEK-SUAL? Ar u shu-re? *** Kat: Bila abang angkat...

Sebalik Malam

Sebalik Malam is TV3's latest show that touches on "taboo subjects and sexual deviancy", e.g. "lesbianism, obsession, voyeurism and sadism". During the introduction, the host Ahmad Fedtri mentioned that the show wasn't about ghosts and the supernatural, but his hand gestures, his slow speech ( ala Misteri Nusantara ) and the spooky music and heartbeat sounds in the background didn't tally with what he was saying. The first episode highlighted Derita Nafsu (loosely-translated to Suffering from Lust). Among the sub-topics were underwear thievery and transexuality. The part on underwear thieves was very weak. Didn't reveal much about the motivation behind, but perhaps there's not much objectivity behind human lust. Some lame answers I got from the host: 1) To sell for money ( on eBay, perhaps? ) 2) As an acne cure ( Oxy can close shop ) 3) Black magic ( Who knows? ) During the second part of the show, they featured a telephone conversation with a ...
