Lifebook La Risata

Image
Celebrated Lifebook's birthday at La Risata , Medan Damansara. KH fetched me from KLCC Convention Center after my duty at the career fair. Slim pickings. The sole decent candidate that I wanted to hire eventually rejected the offer. At dinner, we shared a few mains and wrapped dinner up with a slice of tiramisu and a molten chocolate cake ( the chocolate sphere was too thick, so it took ages to melt ). The birthday boy left right after dinner ( he said he was tired, or perhaps a cover story for birthday sex! ), but the rest of us continued to the second round at Kind Kones , Plaza Damansara. A nice place for vegan ice cream, but the venue was freezing cold, and offered no restroom access to customers. Shooh, shooh, shooh!

Birthday Bi?

Image
Whenever I eat at 3Damansara's Sushi Tei , it must be Ban's birthday. I wasn't particularly hungry, so I just ordered a nabe . Not a big group, just a few of us, namely, JJ ( the organizer ), Janvier, The Chief, and Lex. Hot topic was Ban's activism, and how his peers react to the existence of JJ. Should be a non-issue. Also good to hear that Janvier is recovering well after his procedure. As usual, we would have coffee at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf . The highlight of the night was a guy and his 'girlfriend'. While rounding the corner, the guy lead girl into spin, like they were Angksapuri backup dancers. But the funniest thing about that bizarre was : Our gaydars were pinging like crazy. While he did the turn, he locked eyes Lex, and it had a very high hamsap index. In front of Uniqlo, the girl went into the store, while guy sat down for a coffee. The girl tried on clothes and modeled for him from inside the store while he just sat there and gave

6th Sense

Image
KH organized a birthday lunch for Apollo and Andy at 6 Senses Gastrobar . It was a good opportunity to get everyone together. Timing was a tad difficult, as SK had just flew in from Istanbul that morning. 6 Senses is located in Taman Perindustrian Pusat Bandar Puchong, an area that I had not ventured to before. For some reason, most of the light industrial lots along that road were snapped up by bars, cafes, and restaurants. 6 Senses has a nice ambience and some of their food is pretty good. I recommend the Dip in Funghi and Pork Chop. The dip is actually a cream of mushroom soup topped with egg, and served with toast. Its served in a hot stone bowl, making it extra yummy. And it's unheard of for a place to serve set lunches on a weekend, so it's quite a steal. During the lunch, SK let us try some premium Turkish Delights~ multi-hued sticks imbued with multiple flavours. My favourite is the rose petals. Mei came came late because she drove straight up from Batu

Bon Anniversaire, SimonLover!

Image
It was a Saturday afternoon, and Simonlover jio-ed KH and I to meet up with JJ and Bunny at The Bons Cafe , just outside Atria. I parked my car in the mall and walked out. Couldn't find the place, but found an empty post office instead. Took the chance to renew my driving license. Hehe. Unfortunately, the ugly and puffy face from my new identity card has now been transferred to my new driving license. KH and I were the latest to arrive. The early birds had already started eating. I ordered the pasta lemak, basically nasi lemak with the rice replaced by spaghetti. Having said that, the spaghetti ain't cooked in coconut milk. In my opinion, it just didn't jive. The cafe is cosy, with cute-sy decorations. And the owners are also very friendly. A good selection of cakes here. Got SimonLover a slice to celebrate his belated birthday. Attended sunset mass with mum, then drove all the way to Bandar Saujana to join SK's ex-colleague's birthday party. Years ago, we

Birthday in Bangsar

Image
On the Thursday before KH's actual birthday, we had a celebration dinner at Chez Gaston KL by Rendez-Vous , an unpretentious French restaurant located at an unlikely shop lot at Jalan Bangsar Utama 9. Truth be told, the venue looks more suited for a mamak shop or Malay nasi campur . But don't be fooled, it's the real deal. The reason for the weird timing was because KH would be away in Singapore during weekend to attend the Nu Skin Success Seminar. Had a couple of meat dishes, a toasted with some wine. At the end of dinner, the owner gave us an Eiffel Tower key chain which now hangs from KH's rear view mirror. The night was still young, so we thought to grab some dessert at Third Wave . Mana tahu the shop had closed down. Ended up in Starbucks instead and shared a cascara latte. Cascara is actually the skin or peel of the coffee cherry. Something that usually discarded actually has an interesting flavour. P.S. : Some trivia~ my late maternal grandmother used to

Durian Double Date

Image
By special request, SK requested that her birthday be celebrated on Valentine's Day. Although it was a work day, we also managed to get Apollo and QueerRanter-D to memeriahkan majlis . Like a double date, and SK was the fifth wheel! The venue she chose was Cerdito at Puchong Jaya. KH and I arrived much earlier than scheduled, so we we had our very own VDay thing at Nasi Lemak Factory . Shared a sampling size bowl of wantan noodles with pork curry. The noodles are thin and wet, very Hong Kong style, and the curry was quite spicy. Expensive in my opinion, and nothing to shout about. We even had time to have a scoop of rum and raisin ice cream. Kinda strong. And I really like the interior decoration using flower-themed sand blocks. When it was time for dinner, there was a bit of confusion whether they would let us order from the ala carte menu or not. SK had earlier called in and given the green light, but then then the waitress informed us that only the Valentine's menu

Cutiepie's Birthday 2018

Image
Booked Cutiepie for her birthday dinner at Southern Rock Seafood , Bangsar. Not located at the posh part of Bangsar, but at the grimier shops near Wisma UOA. I took the LRT there and luckily the rain wasn't too heavy for me to walk over. Our dinner consisted of grilled seabass, their catch of the day, and a pot of mussels. The fish was pretty good, but I must say that the mussels were a bit small. Can't hold a candle to Two Sons Bistro. We also toasted the occasion with wine, and towards the end of dinner, KH also arrived. Interesting to note that they we spotted Aquaman's Christmas tree on the counter. We decided to move to Bala's Banana Leaf Restaurant near TMC. Never been to the place. Judging by the full house, it must be good. As luck would have it, we were seated next to ForIHaveSinned. Such a coincidence!  Got a round of teh tarik, and KH tried their ghee chapati with chicken varuval . Both were fantastic and I must admit that I stole quite a lot off his p

Belated Birthday 2018

Image
Due to scheduling problems, Cutiepie didn't manage to bring me out for a birthday dinner until November. We had dinner at Morganfield's , Midvalley Megamall, a standard affair of pork, and beer. We closed with Häagen-Dazs ice cream after a night of gossip and scandal. Mel gave me a bottle of Bleu de Chanel, my first perfume from Chanel. A fragrance of cedar and sandalwood.

Dim Birthday

Image
Some four days after my birthday, KH jio -ed me for dinner, just the two of us at Work @ Clearwater. Grabbed a GRAB to the building at Bukit Damansara. He made reservations at Way Modern Chinois , a place for modern Chinese cuisine. The security guard assured me that the restaurant was in the building, but I couldn't spot the entrance. I doubled checked the address. Then I noticed an elevator door printed with "THIS WAY TO MODERN CHINESE CUISINE". "Oh, upstairs kah?", I thought and proceeded to press the button. The door opened and I was confused again because that very well wasn't an elevator. Turns out that the restaurant was hiding behind that tiny door. Not exactly good feng shui for business with an entrance like that. The interior was pretty dark with each table an island of light thanks to the small spotlights in the ceiling. Although hidden, had quite a number of customers. KH arrived later than me, so I had time to pore through the menu. With

Celebrating The Chief

Image
A beef noodles stall at Eng Huat Kopitiam at OUG had upgraded and moved into a shop lot with the name Niu Niu Kulai Beef Noodle . Depending on you preference, you can pimp up your beef noodles with several condiments found on the table. Try adding preserved radish, chopped Chinese celery,  and chili sauce. Truth be told, I found it underwhelming and a tad too expensive. Later in the afternoon, I got my haircut. Left it a bit longer than usual. Perfect timing because I had a BFF birthday dinner later. It was The Chief's birthday. Janvier asked me for a venue and I recommended Shin Zushi , Jalil Link. Kinda regretted my decision because the road heading there was choked up due to the stupid traffic light near the KESAS intersection. Not many turned up for dinner, just Khatijah, JL, SK, KH, and of course Janvier. SK did the ordering, and it ended up a mini salmon banquet. Didn't venture far for our post-dinner coffee session. Walked up to Owl's Cafe and got The C

An Early 38th

Image
The morning market was abuzz with Mid-autumn Festival vibes. One vendor sold a giant mooncake in a butter cookie tin! That baby went for MYR128 and contained 8 artery-clogging salted egg yolks. Wonder how many he managed to sell. My breakfast was at Charlie's Cafe to take advantage of the B1F1 Entertainer App promotion. Had a Curry Laksa and Nasi Lemak. In my opinion, the curry laksa trumps the Laksa Sarawak. Quite spicy and comes with a thinly sliced chicken katsu. The Nasi Lemak's rendang chicken was also nice, but it was a modified recipe with the chicken lightly fried before combined with rendang paste. SK organized an early 38th birthday dinner for me to suit her busy work schedule. Mum and KH also joined. We ate at Pier 12 Seafood Tavern , Old Malaya. Got some happy hour cocktails, and shared their big seafood platter. On top of that, we had a delicious crab soup with Indian spices, and some steak. Fired up Google Maps to find a nearby coffee place and we sett
