Paper Jap vs Real Jap

Image
Every year it's the same : goodbye CNY, hello Ching Ming . The morning market's prayer item merchants start stocking up on all sorts of Taoist paper offerings. Amidst all the 'traditional necessities' like Hell notes, and gold bars, new products do pop-up to match the times. This time round  I spied a premium Japanese sushi and sashimi platter on the shelves. And then I saw a lacy bra set complete with bling-bling. It got me thinking about the gei lou market. Someone needs to produce some chi chat jockstraps, harnesses, latex suits, and ... you get the picture. My afternoon was spent at KLSCAH, attending an event entitled "Spring Gathering and International Mother Language Day 2020". Pak Samad made an appearance, and even recited poetry. Several Chinese associations also showcased their dialects through songs, drama, and speech. A bunch of Rohingya children also sang a Malay song about their oppression at the hands of Burmese military and Buddhist extremi

Celebrating SahabatSkandal

Image
Celebrated Cutiepie's birthday four days after the actual date. KH and I asked her out to a simple dinner at The Sphere, Bangsar South. The choice of food was Dutch at a cafe called Koffie Kraft . Definitely a departure from our usual choices. And guess what? Its operated by a Korean. Chose a classic dish called bitterballen . A beef croquette that has a really interesting, pasty kind of internal texture even after it had been deep-fried to a golden brown. And if you ever go there, the pumpkin latte is to die for. Forgot about that once-a-year PSL nonsense at Starbucks. This is the real deal! At the end of the dinner, we force-fed Cutiepie a dessert platter ( waffle, stroopwafel, cheese cake, etc ) to celebrate her age upgrade.

Celebrate Sahabat Skandal

Image
On the last Friday of October, finally managed to meet up with Cutiepie to celebrate my belated birthday. She came with two kids in tow, after work on a rainy Friday. Such a super mum. Our dinner was at Jack & Steve Grill in Taman Equine. Don't be mistaken, Jack and Steve are both Indian blokes. This place serves Western-Indian fusion. Both of us already had dinner, so we just ordered drinks. Relived our undergraduate sahabat skandal days with long island iced teas. Used to be our usual order at Section 18 TGIF. Wonder if that place is still in business. Both her kids were vying for my attention, so it wasn't easy for us to talk. But with the help of the smartphone and a toy helicopter we did get to catch up a bit. Glad to hear the Cutiepie would be starting a new job soon. As the night progressed, the kids got restless and in the end, a table tilted, and a drinking glass got broken. Both got a death stare from their mother. The incident really shook them up because

Jemputan Jerry

Jerry treated me to a birthday dinner on a very wet Monday night. It was raining cats and dogs! Couldn't get out of the car without getting a little drenched. According to Chinese belief, it means that the dinner host is stingy. Hehe. Anyway, we ate at Bayou Diner at Bandar Kinrara 5. KH was also, and we shared a burger, and a roast chicken thigh. It was a whole pizza for Jerry because he eating to maintain his cub-ish looks. Although his right forearm was in a cast ( badge of glory from a water rafting accident, not an extreme masturbation session ), he could still feed himself. Didn't stop at dinner, we still continued at a nearby mamak shop. Thanks for the makan , and get well soon!

Countless Cakes

Image
Went to work as usual although it was my birthday. No reason to as there were no special plans. KH wasn't in KL too, he was on another continent. Arrived at the office, and before I started tucking into my breakfast, a delivery guy was at the door. It was a cake delivery for my colleague, which I found really weird cause it was really early, and I couldn't brain getting a cake delivered. But anyway, she signed for it then brought the gianduja cake to me, declaring that it was from KH ( he's super sweet! )! I was REALLY surprised. Luckily it could fit into my colleague's mini refrigerator. My colleagues treated me to a birthday lunch at Brewhouse , TTDI. We brought the cake out as well. I had mixed feelings about their signature charsiew rice bowl. On one hand the charsiew was good, but the charsiew sauce kinda pulled it down. After we had all eaten, we brought out the cake, sang a song, blew out the candle, and brought the cake back to the office unmolested! Lo

Ketam Klang

Breakfast was included in the suite booking. E&O Residences doesn't have a cafe, but they outsourced it to the Delicious located outside their premises. Although separate, it's directly accessible via a secured access door. The buffet breakfast had a spread consisting of typical Malaysian delights like nasi lemak , fried bihun , and curry chicken. For non-locals, they also have the typical Western breakfast consisting of sausages, omelettes, and baked beans. Food was delicious, but the coffee weak. The cafe has a classy design, with several themes incorporated. Subsequently checked out and headed to church. During a short stop at Paradigm Mall, we had our lunch at Canton Kitchen . Made a dinner appointment with Gratitude that evening. Three of us traveled to Restoran Makanan Laut Kebun Kelapa all the way in Pandamaran. Being the host, Gratitude decided on the order for the night. We had the signature fried glass noodles which in my opinion was above average. Exc

Birthday Celebrity

For my birthday, SK singlehandedly organized a staycation and a photoshoot for me. Our talk of a photoshoot had originated a decade ago, and it finally happened. On Saturday morning, mum and I skipped marketing at OUG. We went to breakfast with SK instead. Three of us shared a large bowl of fish head noodles ( with extra fish ) at Woo Pin , Taman Desa. Think the foreign worker was a bit surprised by our order. At 11 AM, all three of us went to 49 Hairdress Café to get a haircut. Been a long time since my hairstylist worked on both of them. With our hair all done up ( asked my stylist for something more outstanding ), it was time for us to start our staycation and photoshoot. Went home, loaded our bags, and headed to Lot 10 to meet Apollo for lunch. We went around J's Dining Gate, Lot 10's latest addition to their concept of all things Japanese. Quite a selection of ramen, teppanyaki, katsu, etc. In the end, plopped into Izakaya Hanazen for hot pot. The star here is the “

GOODDAM Birthday

Image
KH celebrated my birthday at the end of September because he would travelling in the first half of October. He had scheduled a short stop in Tokyo, before proceeding to Salt Lake City for the Nu Skin global convention. Our date was on a Friday night after work. Reservations were made at GOODDAM at The Hub SS2. It was a part of SS2 that I had never seen before. And the name of that modern Italian restaurant is... God damn, kan!? The place looked pretty classy, and it was quiet. Most of the serving and kitchen staff looked really young. Right out of culinary school. The menu was small, but interesting~ fusion cuisine incorporating local ingredients. For refreshments, we had a cube of chilled watermelon with applemint. Then they brought out yummy bread with butter and a dollop of palm sugar. The first main we had was Tajarin Yolk Pasta. A simple-looking dish of pasta tossed with egg yolk, hazelnuts, cured meat, and sheep cheese. Then came the meat dish of Glazed Pork Ribs which cam

Birthday Bulan

Mid-autumn madness lasted till September with a party at Rimbayu with SK's ex-colleagues and friends. During our drive there, saw a car turned turtle right in the middle of the road. Wonder how that happened. In addition to celebrating the mooncake festival, it was a birthday party for one of the guests. The usual birthday cake was replaced with a platter of various mooncakes. The potluck was pretty good with grilled pork ribs, kam heong prawns, KFC, pizza, otak-otak, fruits, red wine, and barley drink. Once we had our fill, some of the kids went out to play with lanterns, and light candles. The haze was bad, so we didn't stay out long. On our way home, we still stopped for sofuto at Family Mart!
