Paper Jap vs Real Jap

Ching Ming Sushi

Every year it's the same : goodbye CNY, hello Ching Ming. The morning market's prayer item merchants start stocking up on all sorts of Taoist paper offerings. Amidst all the 'traditional necessities' like Hell notes, and gold bars, new products do pop-up to match the times. This time round  I spied a premium Japanese sushi and sashimi platter on the shelves. And then I saw a lacy bra set complete with bling-bling. It got me thinking about the gei lou market. Someone needs to produce some chi chat jockstraps, harnesses, latex suits, and ... you get the picture.

My afternoon was spent at KLSCAH, attending an event entitled "Spring Gathering and International Mother Language Day 2020". Pak Samad made an appearance, and even recited poetry. Several Chinese associations also showcased their dialects through songs, drama, and speech. A bunch of Rohingya children also sang a Malay song about their oppression at the hands of Burmese military and Buddhist extremists. There was also the Sayau Titot dance by Orang Asal Penan, and in the end a flute performance by UM's Department of Chinese Studies.

Celebrated my sister's birthday in the evening. KH recommended Shakariki432", a Japanese restaurant that has its roots in Osaka. No idea why there is a double quote at the end of the restaurant's name. From the looks of it, a place for drinking and beer snacks, but I was actually quite surprised by their thick menu that even had a section for Thai food! Their meat dishes are quite good, but they charge you a premium for the raw seafood. And I love that they serve grilled Atka Mackerel (Hokke), something that is not very common in KL.

What's a birthday celebration without cake? Got a few slices at La Mensa, a new cafe that had replaced Coffee Societe. Not sure if this place will last long. Coffee was so-so and the cakes were dry. No wonder the staff were so desperate to get us in.

Hmm not sure whether the restaurant is still around now. I haven't been to Publika for so long!
