Prep for Pig

At the morning market, the effects of the upcoming Lunar Chinese New Year were palpable. A buzz was in the air. Wallets and purses were loosened for a semi-restrained shopping frenzy. Many new stalls popped up to sell seasonal products, e.g. biscuits, snacks, new year cakes, decorations, etc. Heck, even Tulip luncheon meat opened a promotional counter. In the afternoon, SK organized a dim sum lunch at Grand Harbour, Da Men Mall. Joining us for the free lunch was Apollo and my mum. It was my first time at Da Men Mall, a very much food-first mall like Starling Mall. The restaurant was located at the highest floor where occupancy was the lowest. Huge swathes of retail space were left in the dark. Dim sum was pretty good over there. Recommended items are : wu kok (excellent crispy skin), scallop mai (crispy 'nest' on the outside, juicy inside), char siew roll (delicious char siew), pork ribs, red yeast shrimp roll (good combination of textures), and crab meat omelette (a ...

Lunch Date 2019

Image
KH had been working very hard fighting for his success in the Nu Skin platform, so we hadn't been seeing very much of each other. So when he took me out for lunch on Friday, I was truly happy that we could spend some time together. Sharing a simple plate of wantan noodles and a bowl of dumplings is as good as dining at a fancy restaurant. After noodles at Restoran K. Intan , we had coffee at Cafe Tujoh located at the same row. It was a great place to chill, drink coffee, and enjoy each other's company.

Instant Family

Image
KH got free tickets to "Instant Family" from a friend. It stars Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne ( you might remember her from "Bridesmaids" and The "Neighbors" ) as a couple who embark on a journey to adopt children. A pretty good watch on the roller-coaster ride of foster parenting. Some things may have been glossed over ( it's a movie after all ), but its funny and heart-warming. Persist till the end when you truly care. For the first time ever, I ate at Tut's , a place serving Egyptian fusion cuisine at One Utama. Can't say if its authentic, but the taste is pretty decent. Ate a mini okra stew with meat that was quite good. Never seen the likes of those mini okras in Malaysia. Very cute, like little nubs. While dining there, I actually saw the Food Panda delivery guy with no hands . Just a few days back I saw a post about him pop up on my FB timeline. Pretty amazing how he can ride.

Pig Me Up

Image
On the first day of 2019, I woke up at 1:30 PM! Been a LONG, LONG, LONG time since I slept in that late. I would have slept longer if mum didn't knock on my door! Typical question from KH, "Why piggy so much?". Haha. Freshened up and went out to AEON Equine for brunch at  Old Town White Coffee . A simple meal of tuna sandwich and white coffee. Business was brisk. Dinner was with The Tribe at  Fika Fika Cafe . We ordered so much food! And in the end, we had a giant Christmas meat platter! Overdose! A amazing way to kick-start the Year of the Pig.

Before the end of 2018, my BEC had a handover lunch at Restoran New Paris . Still retained its characteristics as a restaurant that serves cheap and fast Chinese food. The sun was blazing that day, so after lunch, mum and I went hunting for something cold. Ended up at Strangers at 47 . The parking situation there did not improve, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that they secured a piece of land opposite the shoplots for customers. Got the banana crepe. Delicious, but they could really be more generous with the portions. And they still hire young boys. KH and I had an appointment with JJ and Bunny that evening. We met up for dinner at Kimiya , Seventeen Mall. Coincidentally, KS was dining with his boyfriend at an adjacent table. Such a small world. Coffee session was at Super Saigon , also in the same mall. To my surprise, they serve dessert as well~ chocolate cake and egg custard.

Yong Tau Fu Friends

SimonLover jio-ed me to have dinner with him and TummyFull at Puchong Yong Tau Fu . No problem for me as I was clearing my leave. TummyFull and I actually went to the wrong YTF shop. Luckily we waited for SimonLover's confirmation before getting a table. Over the years, the YTF there had shrunk a bit and the price increased. Most obvious was the fried fu zuk . It used to be huge. Now it looks very modest. Took us some time to find a nearby cafe to go to after dinner. The only decent option was Mancave Cafe and Collectibles . In Europe, that name would probably be for a sex shop with dark rooms at the back. Sounds so wrong. The cafe has a whole lot of high quality figurines of comic book heroes. After we ordered our coffee, SimonLover spoiled us with a tin of Jenny's butter cookies from Hong Kong. He always shares the good stuff! I tried their Honolulu cake, but it really sucked. Cheesecake meets pineapple tart. A fail. P.S. : SimonLover gave my camo underwear ...
