Jabba Wishes You Happy CNY

Image
Something felt amiss went I arrived at the OUG morning market one fateful day. Traffic was surprisingly smoother. According to universal law, the traffic gets worse during the countdown to the Lunar Chinese New Year. Petty traders at several locations were missing and some coffee shops weren't open. Crazy! Then it made sense. I saw clumps of DBKL enforcement officers near the Market Place OUG. As I approached, I realized that a huge canopy had been raised out front. Some camera crew were filming. To my dismay, I spied Jabba the Hut making a speech. Shocking! But as I got a closer look, I realized that I was mistaken. It was actually our Federal Territories Minister, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan. The esteemed minister was there to officiate the opening of the Market Place OUG and tell the predominantly Chinese voters there to open their eyes, and use their brains to think. Please love Barisan Nasional because Barisan Nasional loves you. Yes, we know . I didn't stay to listen more.

Political Douching

Mum and I did not participate in the fourth BERSIH rally. She told me that at her age, she shouldn't be running from tear gas canisters anymore. Haha. So on Saturday morning, I brought her to the wet market at Jalan Hujan Emas 8, Taman OUG. Quite a sight to behold really. Although we did not go to BERSIH, BERSIH some how came to us. Many of the vendors were wearing BERSIH 4 T-shirts. From the vegetable sellers to the fish mongers to the butchers to the wantan noodle hawkers. Those who did not have official T-shirts wore yellow. The same scene repeated itself at the main market at Jalan Hujan Gerimis 5. Even the staff at my favourite noodle stall were all in yellow. The only yellow I wore was my GX3 underwear. LOL. As usual, we had lunch at home. Cooked up a couple of plates of wholemeal noodles and paired it with roasted duck from the market. Satisfying. Went to The Mines with SK after that. Mum wanted to take a look at the Ms Read warehouse sale over there. Been ages since

Amberjack vs Salmon Toro , swiped from williamnyk on Flickr. Note: It's still pre-GE13 in my timeline! Bersabar ya? :P Like the previous week, my church followed up on its general elections awareness programmes. This time, they got someone to brief the parishioners about the flow during the voting process. Told us what to look out for and what to avoid. Also educated us about our rights and what we should if certain scenarios should arise. Was thinking of splurging on lunch, so I brought mum to Yamada at SS15. I love their sets because they usually feature a diverse combination of items. Departing from the norm, I ordered some ala carte nigiri sushi . The salmon belly and amberjack that I ordered were delish! Expected since it came with a premium price tag of MYR6 and MYR9 per piece respectively! Well-worth the price. Later that night, mum and I went to a PR ceramah at Happy Garden. Thankfully, we found a parking spot that was quite near to where the action was. Stood by the ro

Vote for Wantan Mee

Image
Foochow I , swiped from williamnyk on Flickr. With the polls just less than a month away, my parish priest started talking about our rights as voters and that we have a civic duty to vote. During the sermon, he reminded that the rakyat were the bosses and we should not be afraid of changing our government. Not happy? Change. Still not happy? Change again. At the end, a video fom Catholic Research Center & The Council of Churches Malaysia was screened. Responsible stewardship. Something everyone should think about. Suddenly had a hankering for the wantan noodles at Aman Suria, but apparently they had moved again. Difficult to do business there. Shops keeps closing down. Restoran 747 is no longer in business and the spanking new Ipoh Kopitiam just opposite it also went under. Can anyone tell me where they moved to from Restoran Shang Yi Fatt? :(. Ended up at Restoran Yong Hao that serves up Foochow food and dim sum . A horribly hot and stuffy restaurant with the workers c

The Cows of Christmas

Image
Golden , swiped from williamnyk on Flickr. Sunday was quite busy. Went to church and had lunch with mum. At 3:00pm, sent mum and my nephew to the 1Malaysia Muhibbah Christmas Party at Vivatel. Fronted by Breath of God Church but obviously with government backing. In case you can't guess, that's the hotel at Viva Home. Quite a horrible time getting there because for Besraya was jammed for no good reason and we were stuck in Serdang old town for half an hour before managing to make a detour. Thank goodness for Waze! Saved us more heartache and mental stress. But still, it was a little too late as SK already developed a headache. The stupid hotel is located just before Viva Home, at the back of the building. Right beside the loading bays. Classy. And you can't drive through the lobby. You have to U-turn out as there is still some construction going on. WTF right? When I arrived, a heavily-tinted Alphard was behind us. A VVIP no doubt. As I struggled to escape the lobby, seven

Green Over Yellow I: The Calm Before The Storm

Image
Green Over Yellow , swiped from williamnyk on Flickr. I wasn't really if I wanted to go to Bersih 3.0. Several friends asked me about it, but I didn't give a definite answer. My mum told me that she was going, so what the heck, what kind of son would leave her mother to go alone? So I said yes, and peeled myself from the laptop and put myself in the thick of things for the first time. The night before 428, mum told me that we should gather with some DAP members at Taman Sungai Besi before heading out to Tasik Selatan. I heard 8:00am and I was like... forrrrrr whatttttt . Told her that we were going to the same place, so it didn't matter what time we left. No point going out of the way and end up on the same LRT line. As usual, she was a bit bull-headed about it, so I gave her friend a call. Luckily her friend saw my point and also changed her plan to board at Bukit Jalil at a later time. In the end, we left home at about 8:30am to use the park n' ride facilities at Buk

Flying the Flag

Image
Flying the Flag , swiped from williamnyk on Flickr. Does this constitute flying the flag upside down? A quick check on the internet reveals that flying the flag upside down is considered a distress signal. "...not a mark of disrespect, and in fact is considered by many to be the highest form of patriotism." Ye ke? How about the fella who met Najib at his open house dressed in the Malaysian flag from head to toe? I thought the flag was not supposed to be made into clothing? And yet we see the fella with a big grin on his face shaking hands with our Primer Minister. And it's not supposed to be draped on your car bonnet unless you're driving a coffin. And even if you were driving a coffin, it's only allowed for state funerals. For more information, looks at this flag ethics guide . Love your country. Love your flag. Don't mistake loving your country with loving the government of the day. :D

Apathy

Kill Bill (2003) , swiped from YES, we like MOVIES ! on Flickr. "BERSIH 2.0 is stupid. You happy now that KL is locked down? Annoying. Irritating. My shopping plans are now ruined!" There are people who say that they have no business with politics and politics has no business with them. To them, nothing can be done to make things better. They think they are above it all. Just because they are content with their own inaction, they condemn those who support the cause or at least help to propagate the idea. And when things go down the crapper, they think they have sanctuary elsewhere. In my opinion, these are not fence-sitters, but rather the fence. As the Chinese proverb goes, "unless the needle pokes into your own flesh, you won't feel the pain". Let's hope that when the day comes, the needle won't be too big! Chaz Zye, Tulai and Grat who are currently marching in KL, keep safe and keep dry! And for EarlGrey who is preparing for his charity con

Lets Continue Where We Left Off

Hello! I'm in KH's room at the moment. Will be going off to the airport in a bit to catch my flight back to Kuala Lumpur. Managed to shrug off the jet lag with some much needed sleep, skankin' and melatonin. Will blog about my trip when I get everything organized. Hopefully work won't bog me down too much. Keeping my fingers crossed on that one. In case you didn't know, it's General Election fever in Singapore at the moment. Campaigning is mild by Malaysian standards IMHO. But I heard something interesting here. From a very young opposition candidate, Nicole Seah. She had this to say in response to the PAP "suggesting" that areas that do not vote for them may not see much upgrading: "I ask you Minister, isn't the money for upgrading OUR MONEY? Isn't your salary OUR MONEY?" This is exactly what we hear in Malaysia, except in our context it's "development" rather than "upgrading". I definitely want

Revolusi

Pelbagai aktiviti menarik disediakan utk menarik minat golongan belia yg terbiar ini supaya mereka sedar bahawa Wira PERKASA Malaysia mendengar luahan hati kecil mereka. If a Mat Rempit can be called a Wira Negara , why not glorify the Mat Gian  as well? They've been around longer than anyone can remember. Syabas Wira Perkasa ! The money could have been better spent buying bullets for our trigger-happy police. I'm sure we'd see positive change in their luahan hati kecil  with gunfire to moti

No funds for Opposition MPs

Image
Tan Sri Dato' Haji Muhyiddin bin Mohd. Yassin Swiped from ainst . An excerpt from this article in The Star : “Selangor, for example, though it is already a developed state, the Federal Government still provides allocations. “That is why we have Datuk Ghani (Salleh, Federal Secretary in Selangor) here to ensure the money is spent properly. “The important thing is the rakyat benefits from the funds. “If we channel it to the Mentri Besar, I wonder how he would spend it,” Muhyiddin said. I'm making a guess that if the MB was actually given the money, he wouldn't build a Balinese mansion with it.

Iron Rice Bowl

Image
Iron Rice Bowl Swiped from Rob-Shanghai . Is it true that if you're in the civil service, you're shielded from punishment according to the law? You can say and do what you want because the government does not want to lose face. It's great that prosecution and jail time can be substituted with a mild rap on the hand in the form of "displinary" action. A while later when the issue has died down, you're back on track and in for a promotion even! Sugei!

Merdeka

Image
Xue - Study Swiped from Pawel Maciejewski . It's the 31st of August today. 53 years of independence. It totally slipped my mind. Holiday on Tuesday? What's the occasion? My colleague was baffled. Things seem very quiet in KL. The Singapore NDP had a much bigger presence. Well, what does Merdeka mean to you? This year, to me it means that I'm lucky that I don't have to balik Tiong Kok . Sekian.

Journalism?

Image
Spider Jerusalem's brand of journalism Swiped from silverwolfnoir . Heard about the furore generated from an opposition MP entering a mosque without properly covering herself according to 'religious tenets'? I watched it on the government mouthpiece's prime time news. The newscaster declared it as: Biadap dan melampau!! Isn't that inciting hatred? To me, news channels should be impartial. Not apple polishers who are over-zealous when it comes to condemning the 'enemy'. I really have no more appetite for mainstream media. Yes, it's Biadap dan melampau!!

Goodies from the Dead

Image
Stormies prayers Swiped from JDTX63 . MYR1,000,000,000 for flood mitigaton in Sibu. MYR50,000 for 363 FELDA settlers each. Money is being poured out generously at by-elections. Pray that your elected representative croaks. From the same Sibu flood mitigation article: "Muhyiddin, who is also education minister, said that education was a sensitive issue that should be kept separate from politics." Goodness. If this was the case, then MCA would have nothing to talk about during rallies.

Just Shoot Me

Image
Car Chase Swiped from Prints Charming Original Fabrics . About the shooting of Aminulrasyid : "There is a danger that the Attorney General may be influenced by public pressure in deciding to prosecute the Police Officers on duty due to public pressure instead of basing on the facts of the investigations. This is similar to instances whereby innocent victims were penalized or made scapegoats for a crime they did not commit due to mounting public pressure." I don't think the AG has ever been pressured by public perception. There should be more pressure from the powers-that-be. But anyway, just look at the Kugan case. If emotions did not run high, his death would have gone unpunished. The truth never revealed with their so-called 'investigations' and 'autopsies'. People feel that the system does not protect them, hence some 'sensitive' things must put in the spotlight so that justice can prevail. Well, at least some times.

Divide Up The Pig

Image
Roast Pig BBQ - Scary Swiped from dubesor . "Anwar promised DPM posts to PAS and DAP says Zahrain" Of course he promised them something! Don't tell me the BN Coalition members work for free?! No post, no perks, no contracts, no nothing? For the sake of the rakyat ? Please la. Distributing the proverbial "roast pork", that's the way politics works. Tell us something we don't know.

Good Riddance!

Image
Do Not Crack Whips! Swiped from pjchmiel . Former Penang Deputy Chief Minister Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin had this to say when he left PKR: “In line with democracy, we should embrace differences in opinions but I am surprised why undue pressure is put on those criticising the Pakatan Rakyat leaders,” he said, advising former PKR comrades to fight with clear conscience and stick to their principles. Let's see him criticise the Barisan Nasional Chairman then. LOL. I'm sure the whip would crack even faster.

1Malaysia Revisited

With all the recent shit happening in the country, the thin veneer of the 1Malaysia concept is obviously disintegrating and revealing its true, bigoted visage. Hence, I am commissioning a redesign of the 1Malaysia logo-- a hornets' nest wrapped in the colours of the Malaysian flag. With this, they can jolok the sarang tebuan themselves for all they like. See if I care. Any talented artists around? :). I pay well with big, sloppy kisses. :P. If only everyone can be like Gus Dur and say, "gitu aja kok repot?" .

A DAP CNY

Image
The Democratic Action Party (DAP) had their open house on CNY6 at the KL and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall. Parking was insufficient, so many had to park at the roadside. As a result, our over-zealous traffic police were there to issue summonses though it was just a peripheral road and the road obstruction was minimal. That's double standards for ya. Many DAP stalwarts were there, Saudara Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng, Teresa Kok, Gobind Singh, Karpal Singh, Fong Kui Loon, Tan Kok Wai, Tony Phuah and Loh Gwoh Bourne. Wan Azizah represented PKR and several members from PAS made an appearance. The Selangor MB came right as I was leaving and even RPK came! The whole venue was decorated very nicely in red and the stage had an oustanding 3D backfrop. Visitors were treated to a chinese orchestra performance, a lion dance by the 29 times world champion from Muar ( a very daring display of skill and dexterity ), a senior citizen's choir ( unfortunately like running your fingers against
