Jemputan Jerry

Image
Jerry treated me to a birthday dinner on a very wet Monday night. It was raining cats and dogs! Couldn't get out of the car without getting a little drenched. According to Chinese belief, it means that the dinner host is stingy. Hehe. Anyway, we ate at Bayou Diner at Bandar Kinrara 5. KH was also, and we shared a burger, and a roast chicken thigh. It was a whole pizza for Jerry because he eating to maintain his cub-ish looks. Although his right forearm was in a cast ( badge of glory from a water rafting accident, not an extreme masturbation session ), he could still feed himself. Didn't stop at dinner, we still continued at a nearby mamak shop. Thanks for the makan , and get well soon!

Ozzie Outing

Nearly forgot about mum's quarterly visit to the gynaecologist. Skipped marketing at OUG and headed to Bandar Puteri instead. The visit took longer than usual because the doctor was more than half an hour late getting in. Whenever we are in the area, we always go for the delicious Teochew fishball noodles at You Fishball Noodles . Can't beat the texture because no flour is added into the saitou fish meat. Robbie, an IG friend of SimonLover and I was in town. He was on vacation with his Malaysian hubby, and Kuala Lumpur was the last leg of their journey before returning to Melbourne. A good opportunity to meet him in person. Mum dropped me off at the LRT station on her way out to a meeting. I got off at Plaza Rakyat, and walked the rest of the way to Merchant's Lane . Not a great idea as the sun was really merciless that afternoon. Took me some time to find the place as it was my first time there. Found a small sign with the words "We are beside a stationery sh

Jelajah Cikgu J

Image
Cikgu J and King were in KL, spreading kesucian Ipoh in the Klang Valley. Arranged a meet up with them at Eko Cheras Mall. When they arrived, they were all flustered and sweaty, with another friend in tow, Tango. Tango is your typical pocket gay, with a huge archive of skanky stories to tell. Our initial bitching and gossiping session was Taste by Champignons . KH ordered hot chicken soup for me ( was feeling a weak, but thankfully recovered ), and pork chop for himself. Wasn't impressed with the stuff there. We did some window shopping in the mall to burn some time. When it was time for dinner, we had noodles at Ah Koong Restaurant , a place famous for its fishballs. Most shocking was the fact that we could camwhore so much at a fishball restaurant. They truly are Ipoh's creme de la crème. Cikgu J and gang rushed off to the ETS after dinner, while KH and I stayed back for a bit to paktor at Muyoo , a bakery specializing in oversized, fluffy, pillow-like buns. Can'

Birthday Bulan

Image
Mid-autumn madness lasted till September with a party at Rimbayu with SK's ex-colleagues and friends. During our drive there, saw a car turned turtle right in the middle of the road. Wonder how that happened. In addition to celebrating the mooncake festival, it was a birthday party for one of the guests. The usual birthday cake was replaced with a platter of various mooncakes. The potluck was pretty good with grilled pork ribs, kam heong prawns, KFC, pizza, otak-otak, fruits, red wine, and barley drink. Once we had our fill, some of the kids went out to play with lanterns, and light candles. The haze was bad, so we didn't stay out long. On our way home, we still stopped for sofuto at Family Mart!

Suddenly Summit

Image
On a whim, my CEO suggested that we should make a trip to Singapore to attend the AWS Summit there. It was actually a three-day affair with partner and networking sessions, but I didn't have time to spare for that. I registered for the last day of the summit. According to the schedule, registration started at 7:30 AM, so the coordinator suggested that I fly in the night before. I packed an overnight bag, and went straight to the airport after work. Ate my dinner at Plaza Premium Lounge, which was a bit stressful because they were operating over their capacity due to renovation works. It was a constant battle to keep my seat. While waiting for my gate to open, I spotted Peng Joon, some motivational speaker whose sponsored FB ads often pop up on my feed. Malindo delayed my flight and by the time I landed in Changi T3, it was nearly 10 PM. Surprised that upon arrival, we were herded through some brand new 3D security scanners. Luckily that didn't take long. Immigration clearan

Take A Break

Image
In the following weeks after the town hall, I had been working overtime with my team. Even after getting home, I'd be coding till midnight. Much brain juice was expended. Thankfully, I had a chance to unwind with mum's upcoming trip to Bangkok with my sister. They left on for the airport on Sunday afternoon, and by evening, KH was at my doorstep with an overnight bag. Hehe. But before bed sport, we went to dinner with SK at Restoran MSL , a popular restaurant from Ipoh that had recently expanded to KL. We drove out to The Earth, Bukit Jalil to give their crab glass noodles, cheese crab, and QQ fishballs a try. Before coming, we had done some research. Fearing a problem securing a table, we arrived a quarter past six in the evening. Upon arrival, a family was rushing out the front door, and I thought to myself, "Wow, aren't they EARLY.". What happened next was even more out of the ordinary. A member of the staff rushed out after them, shouting expletives, wit

Driving to Dong Zhen

Image
On a Monday evening, KH persuaded me to join him on a trip to Fo Guang Shan Dong Zhen Temple in Jenjarom. His new friend Delon wanted to see the decorative lanterns that Fo Guang Shan put up during the Lunar New Year. Delon thought that KH would be able to drive his MPV, but he took over the wheel himself after seeing KH struggle. Personally, I had never been to Dong Zhen temple, and had never thought of braving the crowds to see it. Getting there wasn't a smooth affair as traffic was quite bad from Petaling Jaya down towards Subang. And the roads into Jenjarom were dark and unmarked. Once we turned in Jalan Sungai Buaya, we started seeing the traffic. Passed by Ban Siew Keng  which seems to be half food street, half temple. Should have eaten there instead of having the expensive and limited vegetarian food in Dong Zhen temple. Left our car at the roadside and walked in to admire the lights. Much effort was put into decorating the grounds. Not an easy task as the grounds co

Durian Double Date

Image
By special request, SK requested that her birthday be celebrated on Valentine's Day. Although it was a work day, we also managed to get Apollo and QueerRanter-D to memeriahkan majlis . Like a double date, and SK was the fifth wheel! The venue she chose was Cerdito at Puchong Jaya. KH and I arrived much earlier than scheduled, so we we had our very own VDay thing at Nasi Lemak Factory . Shared a sampling size bowl of wantan noodles with pork curry. The noodles are thin and wet, very Hong Kong style, and the curry was quite spicy. Expensive in my opinion, and nothing to shout about. We even had time to have a scoop of rum and raisin ice cream. Kinda strong. And I really like the interior decoration using flower-themed sand blocks. When it was time for dinner, there was a bit of confusion whether they would let us order from the ala carte menu or not. SK had earlier called in and given the green light, but then then the waitress informed us that only the Valentine's menu

Raya Cina Roadtrip II : Palate-Pleasing Pusing and Photogenic Papan

Image
One of my colleagues was born and bread in Batu Gajah. Her alma mater was SMK St. Bernadette's Convent located just beside a Chinese cemetery. Imagine all the stories. Anyway, I buzzed her while I was at the chapati shop, asking her about things to do in Batu Gajah. Strangely, her recommendation was for me to go to Pusing ( just 5 KM away la ) for some delicious kuih . Wing, an ex-colleague of mine, was nice enough to volunteer as my official Pusing guide. Picked him up from his aunt's home, and he directed us to the stall. The famous stall wasn't open, so the competitor stall was enjoying brisk business. All sorts of kuih were sold, and of course fried stuff. KH was also on a road trip of his own, and he met us there. Can't believe we actually loitered by the roadside, chatting, munching on kuih , and sipping cold soy milk. Moving on, Wing brought us to Papan, a small town that looks like it's on it's last legs. Papan is a historic tin mining town, o
