Breakfast: Wantan noodles ( dedicated to Kenni ) Lunch: Pan-fried salmon steak and scallop chutney with white porride at home + home-made markisa berlian Dinner: Dengar ini cerita... During the early stages of our relationship, KH loved to bring me out to meet his friends, gay and straight alike. Back then, I even agreed to go to his ex-F6 classmates chip san leong ceremony. You can read about it here . Can you imagine the awkwardness when his friends look at me and ask, "Mamat ni siapa ah?!". Well, this friend of his, let's call her The Bride ( macam Kill Bil pulak ), actually got divorced some years back. Right after KH relocated back to KL, we did meet her again . Some months after that, she invited the both of us to her wedding. It was held at Jaya Palace . Picked KH from his home. Thank goodness it was quite close to his home, else would have to sauna longer in my car. KH sweated like

CDM , swiped from williamnyk on Flickr. Received a wedding invitation from a neighbour in Kuantan for their eldest son's wedding. Old colleague's of my dad back in the civil service. Very good people who were there when we needed them. After my dad had passed away when I was seventeen, they consoled us. Since they were a Catholic family, they helped a lot when my mum decided to learn more about my dad's faith. Arranged for her to join RCIA and brought her to church. The uncle tried his best to help me brush up my driving skills, but I did not force myself to drive until I was in KL in the face of crazy traffic. He also tried his level best to teach how to ride my dad's motorycle, but my spindly arms really couldn't even handle the weight of the machine, let alone ride it. Haha. Oh well. I remember when my mum went out of town, the auntie cooked me a huge meal. She brought it over in a hospital tray and it was filled to the brim with rice, vegetables, free-range

A Simple Yet Luxurious Wedding (?!)

Fruity Goodness , swiped from williamnyk on Flickr. After weeks of absence from the market, mum and I finally found the time to go. Even so, it was a shortened trip due to the fact that she still needed to take care of the baby later in the morning. In the afternoon, SK picked me up and we went for lunch with Jaz. He was in town to settle some unfinished business in Malaysia and was staying for a fortnight. He arrived on Thursday afternoon with an Etihad flight from Germany. When we arrived at Yamada , the restaurant was devoid of customers. Even the owner was not there, only his apprentices. We ordered two of their lunch sets and an appetizer. Diverse enough for us to have a little bit of everything. Sadly, the quality of food was a bit off that day. The chawanmushi was hard and a bit tasteless, the miso was too salty and the tuna was so dry that I thought it had been left out in the sun. As we were preparing to leave, a familiar face walked in-- DeanR and his boyfriend whom I had

May Marriage

hei. , swiped from williamnyk on Flickr. Some time in April, one of my mum's distant relatives called her up to invite her to a wedding. The woman came over with her suptugenarian dad and pre-teen daughter to pass us the invitation card. Was kinda shocked that one of her daughters were getting married. Must have been knocked up! But mana tahu , it was actually her sister who was getting married in her forties. The wedding was held at Bukit Kiara Golf Resort on Labour Day. Being a big family affair, my uncle and aunt also came down from Teluk Intan to attend. Once again, they stayed at my place the night before. In the morning, we had a big breakfast gathering with my cousins at a coffee shop near my house. A bloody humid day. Moved from the stuffy interior to a table by the roadside, but it was still enough to make one sweat. At 11:30am, we made a move. Never been to the venue, but it was easy to find. Quite a hassle to get parking though. The Chinese restaurant was nestled beside

End The Year With "I Do"

Patrick & Nicea's Wedding I , swiped from williamnyk on Flickr. 2011 is really the year to get married. Had to attend another wedding on Saturday. The matrimony mass was scheduled at 9:30am, so we gave marketing a miss. The previous two I attended were only a half masses because both of the brides were not Catholics. So the last wedding of the year ended quite nicely with a full mass as both were Catholics. Everything was quite standard really. Flowers, relatives, bla bla bla. But it was interesting to note that the bride kinda had a perpetual look of surprise on her face and her mum on the other hand looked glum. And the worst of all was sitting in front of her boisterous band of bridesmaids. Had no decency to shut up at all during the proceedings. While the priest did his thang up front, they were busy firing the mouths off in machine gun style yakking. By the time Gospel was read, my mum couldn't stand it any longer and shushed them. After the bouquet was thrown ( wh

The Bride

Chinese traditional wedding , swiped from 小抖 ♬♫♪♩Kido on Flickr. Unlike SK, I rarely have super-vivid dreams. None of those Hollywood movie plots and IMAX theater effects. But the other day, I think I finally got a blockbuster playing during my REM sleep. Well, not an action movie, more of a romantic comedy? Something every little girl dreams of... getting married. I actually dreamt that I was goonna marry KH. Quite traditional really. The bride went to the groom's place. Not in a palanquin with a band of musicians, but actually a VIP bus with me, SK and one other wispy person inside. After arriving at KH's condo, I went up to his place. Upon arrival, the front door was open and all his relatives were standing around. The standard sam ku luk po . All of them were whispering to each other. Can't blame them, how often does one see a gay marriage in Malaysia? But perhaps it was also due to the fact that I was only dressed in a muscle T and a pair of shorts for my own weddi

Wedding Bells

Beta carotene & Capsaicin , swiped from williamnyk on Flickr. My wet market excursion on Saturday took a modern twist. Instead of the traditional places, mum decided to shop at NSK , Kuchai Lama. That wholesale market feels just like a hypermarket with loads of fresh produce and other groceries. Open twenty four hours a day and hires loads of workers to man the counters and sort out the goods. Air-conditioned and clean with prices that are sometimes even lower than the pasar ! Forklifts zip around near the parking lots and they even have Zamboni-like machines keeping the floors dry. After shopping, we had breakfast at the shops nearby. Rushed home to attend a 1:30pm wedding mass. Since the bride wasn't Catholic, it was a half mass and although the rite was predominantly in mandarin, the groom made his vows in English. It was the funniest wedding march I ever saw, with the bride walking slightly like a lurching zombie. During the ceremony, an old aunty asked me, "Do you ha

Banquet Celebrities(tm): Hunk From Another World

A Wedding Lunch ( the hunk is watching the waitress mutilate the pomfret ) About a month back, I received an SMS from my laywer, J inviting me to his wedding lunch. "Eh, wait a minute, didn't I recently hear about his baby's full moon?!" Modern parents. The sequence is all wrong. Haha. It was held at Grand Imperial,  USJ19 City Mall , USJ19 ( no surprise here ). Such an unimaginative name. But at least it had free parking. Horrible interior. Kinda like Summit USJ. I foresee a zombie-like existence for its tenants. Arrived at noon only to find that only twenty percent of the guests had arrived. Ugh. Took my seat and exchanged pleasantries with a rich-looking woman in her 30s. "You ever been here?" "I think it opened not long ago. An abandoned project." "Yup, abandoned for ten years. It belonged to my uncle." First clue. Then J came over to talk to us. She shook his hand and we have clue number two. "J! Congratulations

Wedding & Old Shanghai

Last Saturday was a holiday from the wet market scene. Mum had found a much cheaper and fresher alternative in our housing area, so going to the wet market is no longer 'critical'. Instead, we went to TC's wedding at the Church of Divine Mercy, Glenmarie. Only my second time there. Nearly got lost going there as we missed a turning, but we made it just in time. Loved the wedding mass. The celebrant, Father Paulino was very moving during his homily and the St. Cecilia choir was very good. SK got to see some of her old coursemates. Many did not recognize her. Mum and I just tagged along as Catholic weddings are usually a quiet affair. Good to swell the numbers a bit. Just one cutie at the wedding. The Edison Chen bad boy type. Complete with fancy, shaved hair. At first I thought he was wearing a cool, giant white earing, but it turned out to be a bandaid. LOL. After mass, lunch was served. Very meaty offerings of curry chicken, roast duck, roast lamb, buttered prawns and samb
