Stripes Staycation

Kopitiam / Cafe / Bar

Mum was off on a trip, so KH and I went on a staycation in the heart of KL Tried our luck for early check-in at Stripes Hotel but our room wasn't ready. Ok lo, so we went for lunch at Kwong Cheung Loong Kopitiam, a pet-friendly kopitiam / cafe / bar. The lines are so blurred here that the guy next to us was having nasi lemak with his Golden Retriever at his feet, sipping a cold beer. Halfway through lunch, the front desk called to inform us that our room was ready.

Hotel Room

The room was pretty nice, but the view was obstructed by the red brick facade that gives the hotel its distinctive look. The pool is located at the roof top and provides a view of KL Tower. Managed to squeeze in a swim. Our dinner venue was back at Heritage Row-- Kappo Takebayashi. Actually, we spotted the Japanese chef during lunch while he was walking his Shiba Inu. His cute doggo was staring longingly into Kwong Cheung Loong, hoping to join the other canines in there. Uncommon items on the menu like sea eel, but the weirdest thing was spotting Berjaya Toto's CEO there with her friends.

Yuzu Kosho White Fish

KH complained that he wasn't full yet, so we got a pizza from Heritage Pizza next door. Such a pizza freak. With the box of pizza, we dashed back to the hotel in the rain. Devoured the diavola with a bottle of shoju, Once the rain let up, we soaked up the night view at the roof top bar, then headed back out to Licky Chan for some ice cream, and a short evening walk.

KL Night View

Bright and early the next morning, KH and I had breakfast at Tapestry located just opposite the hotel. A bit later and the place would be swamped. Great place to enjoy a hearty shakshouka with soft toasted sourdough while enjoying the natural sunlight streaming in through the transparent roof that tops the brick structure.  Enjoyed the last few hours of the hotel before checking out and heading to Wisma Lim Foo Yong for lunch. Tsukiji No. 8 was pretty good, but not exactly cheap.

Sashimi

Always on the look out for new places, KH brought me to After One. He claims that I can't go to the same place twice, so he is perpetually stressed to find new places for us to go. Am I that overbearing? Coincidentally, it was the cafe's grand opening, and there was a wellness market happening outside. After we finished our coffee and cake, we let our inner aunties shine and left with 3 big packs of mushrooms from one of the vendors. That concluded our short July staycation!
