Failed Journey To Mars

Oil Palm Plantation

Trekking and hiking is more up KH's alley. The timing of his trips are usually not compatible with my schedule because it would clash with Saturday market and Sunday mass. Finally he found something that fit both my timing and fitness level. The place is called Mars Hill, and is located in a palm oil plantation in Sepang. It was organized by a bunch of millennials, and were just tagging along. The meeting point was at a dragon fruit orchard (so many of them along the way, no wonder the market is flooded with draginfruits!) in Sepang. Unfortunately, the bunch of kids could not be punctual. The stragglers delayed the trip from 4:30PM to 5:30PM, wasting precious daylight. Lots of girls on the trip. Those who took the time to put on makeup, and bra tops were given a rude shock by how unforgiving the late afternoon sun was. On the hand, I came prepared with umbrellas and arm sleeves.

Mars Hill from a Distance

The terrain was mostly flat, with lots of cow pies scattered on the paths. Our guide for the day proved to be undependable because he was navigating based on a trip he made three years ago. Either the paths had changed, or his memory got the better of him. Made several detours, and double backed a few times, but we still didn't reach our destination. But things were made easier by the fact the the ground was littered with breadcrumbs (shredded paper from a law firm!) left by another group. An hour in, and we could see Mars Hill in a distance. Not a short distance mind you. KH and I made a decision to turn back. It was getting dark pretty quick, and we had lost the golden hour that gives Mars Hill its distinctive red. Without the breadcrumbs, I bet we would have lost our way. When we arrived back at the starting point, it was already dark. Heard that the main group did finally make it to Mars Hill, but they had lost the light.

Dragonfruit Pork Ribs

Would I make a return visit? My poor right foot would probably protest. Celebrated our escape from the oil palm plantation with a dinner at Restoran Rue Ee in OUG. Not been to the place since I was an undergraduate. Guess what we had?~ dragonfruit pork ribs!
