Dinner & Drinks

Bar

When both of us aren't too busy at work, KH and I go for Friday night dates. KH had been eyeing 8Haus at Jalan Sin Chew Kee for its crispy pork roulade. Jalan Sin Chew Kee is an old neighbourhood located right behind Jalan Galloway (that's where VCR Cafe is). The houses there really have an old school feel. Most of the residents had moved out, some of the lots abandoned, and some transformed into commercial lots, like 8Haus and Pahit. As luck would have it, 8Haus was fully-booked that evening! But all was not lost as we were presented with an alternative. On the second floor is a bar called Sin Chew Kee Cold Drinks Store, and we could still order food from 8Haus' mini menu. So up we went.

Pork Roulade

As expected, the bar was really quiet, and we were given full attention by the crew (and we had a hunky waiter, but gomenasai, no spycam!). They specialize in tea-based cocktails. Some pretty interesting stuff in their menu, so it took us a while to choose. I went for the Umami Cocktail which is dry gin with sencha, dashi syrup, and miso! It came paired with a slice of nori. I preferred KH's The White Russian which is vodka with coffee liqueur, and salted cream-cheese foam. Paired with a slice of torched cheese. Luckily the pork roulade was on the menu, and for carbs we had the pork lard spaghetti (a copious amount of chuyauchar!). Second round was compliments of a gin promoter, and that G&T really brought out a different character in KH. A high KH is more boisterous, and touchy. And I remember a drunk KH.... a giant hornball!

Greenhouse

To cool off, we went to find coffee. Ended up at Plan B, TRX. Strange to see that greenhouse-like cafe right opposite the famous pork ball noodles shop. Development had crept right up to the doorstep of this old Imbi area. A nice place to share a coffee and a slice of Macadamia cheesecake, but watch out for the mosquitos! After our drink, we had a stroll around the area. Construction workers were everywhere, probably changing shifts. Back at Win Heng Seng, KH couldn't resist ordering a pack of Hokkien noodles before sending me home.

You always amazed me with your skanky stories and various cafes you hopped. Now I am truly attracted to this Plan B greenhouse concept to explore. Wanna plan for my future house.
