Driving to Dong Zhen
On a Monday evening, KH persuaded me to join him on a trip to Fo Guang Shan Dong Zhen Temple in Jenjarom. His new friend Delon wanted to see the decorative lanterns that Fo Guang Shan put up during the Lunar New Year. Delon thought that KH would be able to drive his MPV, but he took over the wheel himself after seeing KH struggle. Personally, I had never been to Dong Zhen temple, and had never thought of braving the crowds to see it. Getting there wasn't a smooth affair as traffic was quite bad from Petaling Jaya down towards Subang. And the roads into Jenjarom were dark and unmarked.
Once we turned in Jalan Sungai Buaya, we started seeing the traffic. Passed by Ban Siew Keng which seems to be half food street, half temple. Should have eaten there instead of having the expensive and limited vegetarian food in Dong Zhen temple. Left our car at the roadside and walked in to admire the lights. Much effort was put into decorating the grounds. Not an easy task as the grounds cover 16 acres of land. Nice to look at, but not very easy to photograph. In addition to the lights, they added some mechanics.
Will I return next year? Unlikely. Too far, too much effort just to see some zodiac-themed lanterns. Back in Petaling Jaya, we still had the energy for supper at Al-Safa, Section 17. Pretty good teh tarik there. But if you're thinking if using their power sockets to charge your phone, do be prepared to RM1/hour!
