Balloons For Bulan
For some reason, I had stayed away from Mutiara Damansara for many a year. eCurve, Ikano Power Center, and IKEA didn't excite mum and I anymore. A recent sponsored post on Facebook alerted me about beautiful balloon art at IPC (Ikano rebranded) in conjunction with the mid-autumn festival, so I decided to go take a look. I was shocked to find that IPC was a complete transformation. The place underwent an IKEA-fication. There was a big food court at the lower ground, but it was a little claustrophobic due to the close quarters and low ceiling. But that's my only complain. The rest of the space was great.
We ate lunch at Hana Japanese Dining, a fusion Japanese restaurant from Taiwan. I love the menu for the simple fact that it's unusual. Many new things to try. From their hors d'oeuvres menu, I chose a sampling trio. What tickled my taste buds the most was the Hawaiian Maki, a rice-less roll using salmon belly. And the it has a nice crunch from all the fish roe. The sizzling tamago with shimeji was much bigger than I expected. Took us a long time to finish.
The balloon decorations were really impressive. At one end, they had a dragon 'flying' through the clouds. That installation reached the second floor. On another end, they had an oriental garden with a giant peacock surrounded by cranes, trees, flowers, gazebos, and even a river. The river originated from a waterfall and even had a bridge across it. Mind-blown. To complete the theme, they also had someone bouncing around in a bunny balloon suit, giving out candy. That looked pretty creepy.
On a whim, mum and I attended the inaugural International Day of Older Persons mass for KL Archdiocese at St. Joseph's Church, Sentul (near ZHEN LIEW SIANG). It was celebrated by Archbishop Julian Leow and accompanied by Archbishop Emeritus Murphy Pakiam and Archbishop Emeritus Anthony Soter Fernández. The presentation of gifts of bread and wine were done by an old lady and an elderly man in a wheelchair. There was fellowship after mass. Shared a table with a friendly 84 year old parishioner of St Joseph who had spent his whole life in Sentul. In the end there was a cake cutting to celebrate the birthday of Archbishop Emeritus Anthony Soter Fernández and a few of the elderly parishioners who shared the same birthday month.
