Podgy, Peranakan, and Petaling Jaya

Podgy

Made a date with Apollo and QueerRanter-D at Podgy Kurau. Never been to that part of Bangsar. So hidden, with so little parking. The new Podgy is smaller than when it was at Desa Sri Hartamas. Saw a savoury waffle on the menu, so gave that a try. Waffles and a chicken cutlet. Liked it. Our 'blow water' session went on till dinner time.

When we walked out to look for dinner, our noses were seduced by the aroma of laksa spices. Further investigation brought us to Baba Low's a few doors down. Heard about this peranakan place, but never tried. Mee Siam and Bendeh Sambal was good, and so was the Nyonya Laksa, which lured us there in the first place. Thick and spicy soup. Ayam Goreng Kunyit was also yummy, can't really go wrong with fried chicken. Pai Tee was just average and the worst item was the popiah kulit telor, that came in a wrapping so thick I thought it was a crepe or a large kuih ketayap! Mee Goreng Sejuk was another miss because it was too salty. Kopi is decent, but the cendol so-so. Overpowering gula melaka.

Our JJCM trip did not end there. We continued on to Petaling Jaya to have coffee and cake at JEQ in the House, a wood and steel themed cafe. The Tiramisu was supposed to be non-halal, but I couldn't detect a drop of alcohol in it. And the cake was so aggressively chilled that it came out like an ice cream cake. Didn't like the cold brew because it was so sour. But interestingly, they served with an ice ball like what they do for whisky.
