Getting High

For our trip to Genting Highlands, Gratitude did the driving. Arrived at Gohtong Jaya just in time for lunch. Never dined there before I think. A long row of Chinese restaurants and fruit stalls to meet the many demands of travelers. Not surprisingly, there's a perpetual traffic snarl around it during meal times. Reason: narrow roads, lack of parking, inconsiderate parking, and tour buses. As the Genting veterans, Gratitude and SK chose to eat at Kedai Makanan Loong Kee. Not only did one have to fight for a parking space, getting a table is challenge of its own. But the waiters do help to smooth things over.



Our meal simple-- steamed Tilapia in hot bean paste, stir-fried vegetables, steamed egg, and pork belly pot with salted fish (very crispy slices of meat). If you ever eat there, do take a look at their Lost and Found cabinet that contains all sorts of items left behind by customers. Once we had finished our meal, we had to fight to pay our bill! Their POS system had crashed and the poor cashier had to punch in every open order back into the system. Gohtong Jaya was really a test of patience.



On our way back to the car, spied Gohtong Greg with his big arms and manbag. Thick lips on that one. Come time think of it, he did exude a sisterly vibes.



It was my first visit to Genting Highlands after a long hiatus, so it was more exciting for me. SkyAvenue is really huge, with stunning visual displays. Impressive. While we went shopping, Gratitude slipped into the casino. We wished him lots of luck as he was our meal ticket for the day. No visit would be complete without taking a peek at Cafes Richard with its beautiful flower shaped dining balcony and black and white tiles.





All that walking had made us really tired, so we had a bubble tea stop at Koi located near the Awana SkyWay SkyAvenue station. The shops located along that stretch enjoy the luxury of high human traffic. On top of that, its open air concept gives the option for al fresco dining in the cool highlands air. To further enhance the experience, the management should start enforcing a smoking ban in that area. Not long after we finished our drink, Gratitude emerged from the casino.... a few hundred ringgit poorer! Ah crap! There goes our lobster meal.



On our way down from Genting, we stopped by at Genting Premium Outlets, another first for me. Although there were many brands there, nothing caught my eye. But I think the fragrance section has pretty good bargains.



By the time we arrived in BK 5, it was already dinner time. We ate at Hao Kee. The grilled fish there is highly-recommended. Perhaps my next trip to Genting Highlands would be when the Fox Entertainment theme park opens. But at the time of writing, Genting is suing Fox Entertainment and Disney for USD1b for derailing the plans. Oppps....A really big spanner in their plans.
