Surprising SkyHaus
Some Sundays, I just make a random look on Google Maps to determine where mum and I should eat after Sunday mass. Found SkyHaus Café just behind my church, nestled within a residential area. Rare to see a café with a rating of 4.5. And the fact that it was a vegetarian joint didn't deter me from trying it. Business was good on a Sunday afternoon although the area was pretty dead. The café had plenty of natural light and tables were arranged around a central work area for the barista and cashier (which happened to be all young boys).
Most of the food on the menu was western, but there were also a few Asian items. The waiter recommended the fettucine carbonara, and I chose the siphon signature coffee to go with it. The carbonara sauce was pretty thick, and the pasta had a great texture. Even the vegetarian ham looked like real meat. LOL. The coffee was also great, it suit my palette. Smooth, and none of the sourness that I dislike. If you're buddy buddy with the barista, you can get him to make some special latte art. Saw him making an Elsa for a kid.
I'll definitely return to try their cakes and gelato. On top of all that, they also have pastries, biscuits, and Taiwanese pineapple tarts. And let you on a secret-- every RM30 spent entities you to buy a box of their Nama chocolate for half the price (they served me a piece with my coffee and I loved it).
A celebratory dinner was arranged by SK that night. Her company had announced a bonus and salary adjustment for her, so she wanted to share the wealth at Hani Steam Food Restaurant. Hani is a new restaurant at Jalan Puchong, just opposite OUG Parklane. It was converted from a factory lot, so it looks a bit weird. The restaurant is located upstairs, while the whole area on the ground floor is dedicated for parking.
As the name suggests, Hani only serves steamed food. With this concept, they don't have a full kitchen. Most of the cooking is done at the table via an electric steam pot. One problem though, cooking is done one after another, so it can be quite a bother, and slow to boot.
Customers can choose live seafood at the aquariums located at the side. SK chose fruit-fed tilapia (great taste and texture), clams, oysters, and prawns. For the kids, we got steamed chicken, steamed tofu, and steamed egg. The egg dish was huge. By mum's estimate, it contained at least 5 eggs. That was just MYR8! The tofu was sent back because it was spoiled. In my opinion, the chicken was expensive although it's supposedly antibiotic-free. Better to order seafood. Free dessert was steamed nian gao with freshly-grated coconut. Very well-executed.
SK paid the bill and went to use the restroom before leaving. She emerged from the restroom with a blood on her brow because she ran into an open cubicle door. The whole management of the restaurant came to her rescue with a first aid kit. A memorable visit indeed.

A relative of mine crashed into his hotel room's fancy glass bathroom's door and got paralyzed till today. It happened in Spain and imagine how they had to fly his body home with doctor & nurse on tow.
That's tragic!
