A Simple Life

Flip-flops for the Dead by williamnyk
Flip-flops for the Dead, swiped from williamnyk on Flickr.

Went to the market on Saturday after a short hiatus and found that Ching Ming preparations were in full swing. Paper prayer items for the dead were piled high. All the latest gadgets were available.

"Miss... this is any massage chair... this is THE massage chair! 天王椅. You know or not?!"

The latest from OSIM and promoted by Andy Lau no less. Had a quick breakfast at an alley and went home a little earlier to escape the morning sun! It was hot that day. Went home for a while before going out again for lunch at Mek T, Puchong Jaya. This time round we tried her nasi sokmo (kinda like nasi briyani with two pieces of stewed chicken, egg and curried pineapples), laksa Terengganu (the noodles did not have a good texture and the gravy wasn't hot enough) and kar pek hu sah (a white, steamed variety of keropok lekor that is 90% fish meat!). With our bellies filled with the East coast goodies, we drove over to IOI Mall to watch "A Simple Life". Once again, Andy Lau teams up with Deannie Yip to deliver a movie that I thought would be a tear-jerker. Was quite surprised that it wasn't. The pace was slow and scenes very mundane. True to life, no argument about it. But it was a flat journey. Andy Lau was as wooden as ever, playing a character that was practically himself. No challenge there. Deannie Yip on the other hand was good in the main character. Very realistic portrayal of a degenerating old lady. Plenty of stars lent their presence on screen too.

Mek T

Back at home, we suddenly got a call from my Teluk Intan aunt that she was in town for her daughther's ROM. Quickly arranged a dinner at Restoran Taman Equine since they were just staying nearby. Had a nice dinner with my uncle, aunt, cousin sister, her husband-to-be and my other cousin sister. The husband-to-be was exceptionally quiet for a car salesman. Surprising. After that, we went to their rented place to pick up my aunt and uncle's luggage. It was only a rented room and sleeping on a thin mattress was not a pretty thought for my aunt who has back and knee problems. So they spent the night at my place...
