White Christmas Is Back With A Vengeance

On Christmas eve, SK, mum and I went out to the Pavillion for shopping and a movie. Was quite productive for mum as she bought a couple of blouses and a pair of shoes. At 11:15pm, we watched "White Vengeance" at GSC. Kinda liked the movie. Always a sucker for Chinese period movies. Wuxia, historical, semua boleh. Nearly everyone fitted into their roles, perhaps with the exception of Jordan Chan and the annoying Crystal Liu as the beauty. Loved the costumes and the overall feel of the movie. And the Go battle between Zhang Liang and Fan Zeng was perfect, albeit cliched. And the part where Zhang Liang vomitted blood after losing... a must-have. LOL. Decided to go up to the sixth floor for lunch. Chose to dine at Tokyo Don after seeing a lanky fellow dressed as a Christmas tree inside, complete with baubles hooked on his T-shirt. The killer was the 2-foot high platform shoes. I salute him. Shared a Hokkai Don (salmon sashimi and ikura over rice), teriyaki beef over rice and one dobin mushi. Impressed with the quality of the salmon. With our tummies filled, we did more shopping. Before calling it a day, we stopped at Ying Ker Lou to take advantage of their tea time specials. Tried their Hakka noodles (mediocre, but the meat paste was quite good, full of salted fish aroma), sweet potato cheen tui and mui choi pau. At their prices, I think I'd rather eat at Dragon-i.

Human Christmas Tree

Back home, rested for just a bit before heading out again, this time for Christmas Eve mass. Factored in a possible jam, but the LDP was kind to us. Arrived an hour earlier! But we weren't the only kiasu ones. People were all dressed up. Made me feel a bit under-dressed. Kinda felt a bit like CNY. Should have worn more expensive underwear. :P. The cantata started at 8:00pm with just four voices this year. And the also found a good violinist. The caroling really put everyone in the Christmas mood. About fifteen minutes later the entrance hymn was played and the priest brought in Baby Jesus and put Him in the manger. Immediately, the star lit up and the mass was commenced. At the end, things got a bit chaotic with people wishing each other and the kiasu English-speaking parishioners began arriving, trying to jostle for good seats. Can't blame them really. Either you sit inside where the air-conditioning is or you sit outside where it kinda feels like you're not participating. At the end, a lean and twinky santa claus gave out sweets. Rushed home for dinner at SK's place. She cooked mee suah with fish slices. For dessert, it was -Alex-'s carrot cake. SK had no love for cinnamon, so he had to tweak his coconut milk icing with lemons, giving it a sourish twinge. Topped with strawberries, blueberries and dried apricot, it was quite tasty and perfect for the season. :).
