Meeting Cornelius

On sunday, mum went to New Era College for a charity sale, so I followed SK to English mass at 8:45am instead. A surprise guest presided over the eucharistic celebration-- Bishop Cornelius Sim. His name was so familiar. Then it hit me... I saw his name while I was researching for Catholic churches in Bandar Seri Begawan. According to Wiki, he is the current Vicar Apostolic of the Catholic Apostolic Vicaiate of Brunei. Should be correct cause he wore a skullcap and had a ring on his finger. The new assistant parish priest had the task of caring for this VIP. Mass with Bishop Cornelius wasn't a bed of roses as he had the habit of mumbling! Kinda like Jay Chou in thirty years time. The junior priest kept on pushing the mic closer and closer to his mouth, it was quite hilarious. However, his sermon was quite interesting. Related the story of the Magi with our lives-- they paid homage to Baby Jesus all the way from the east then went home by another way. Similarly, we should visit Jesus in the manger (let God into our lives) and having done so, lead our lives differently for the better. Breakfast was wantan noodles at Restoran 747. Fat, fat, fat! Not wanting to go home yet, SK and I went to the Gardens for some window shopping, but of course we ended up buying something. Quickly settled Janvier's birthday present (hope he likes Julius the monkey girding his loins) and SK bought some bedsheets. Made several cold calls hoping to catch someone for lunch, but we ended up chiak ka ki at Sushi Tei. Shared a sashimi moriawase and a seafood nabe. Decorations at Midvalley seem more low key this year. Can't help but feel that their budget got slashed. Cut paper lanterns to cut cost. Got home then rested a bit before receiving a call from Mei that she was coming over to visit. Talked with her a bit about her recent relationship issues and passed her an early birthday present. Mum came home not long after that and the Saturday just kinda rolled by...
