Pep Talk
My typical Sunday at church took a turn when mum received an SMS from a friend at the DAP office in Kuchai Lama. The service center at Taman Sungai Besi was having a Hari Raya do (the president there is a Chinese muslim) and we were invited at the last minute. Just as I was about to turn into Tropicana city Mall, I made a U-turn and headed for the venue. According to the SMS, it was suppposed to start at 2:30pm. Mum suggested that we have lunch there. Common sense and experience taught me to fill my tummy first as these things are NEVER on time. Shared a bowl of pan mee at Face to Face, Bandar Park. Guessed how to get there as my mum is usually very confused about places. When we reach the place, she would say "AHA! I remember there's a mamak shop below it", but she can never tell you that piece of information before reaching the destination. :S. You know what? We were the first to arrive. Looking at the schedule, I was shocked to see that food would only be served at 4:30pm. Thank goodness I ate something beforehand. Things dragged on and yadda this, yadda that about new DAP members registration. The guest of honour was Teresa Kok and by the time she arrived I had seen their cheesy video montage thrice. But before that, it was interesting to watch some old videos about DAP outreach programmes to promote the third vote (local government). DBKL officers acting like hooligans grabbing balloons that DAP planned to release at Dataran Merdeka. Senior police personnel observing DAP MPs distributing brochures to constituents at a wet market. The police really have nothing better to do. But when it's BN, anything goes.
Teresa Kok looked haggard. Seems that she had been going from open house to open house, but she still had the fire to give a rousing speech about the importance of gaining more seats for the opposition. She also cautioned about Najib's abolishment of the ISA saying that it was yet to be seen whether it would be replaced by an even more draconian law. Forms were passed around for people to volunteer as transportation facilitators, polling agents and counting agents during the coming general election. Dunno whether I should help out this year. I wouldn't mind being a polling agent. Food was so-so. After waiting for so long, I wasn't really in the mood to eat. By the time we got home, it was already quite late, so we rushed off again for mum to catch the final half of her aerobics class at Taman Bukit Jalil. Definitely not Les Milles, but a little something called Praise Dance by the committed people from Full Gospel Assembly. I just ran for enough to work up a sweat. And that's a wrap.
