New Era

Seems like ages since I did any volunteer work and so when Spring Single Mother's Society requested help, SK and I said "Yes". Like the past years, it was at New Era College's Convocation Festival. Every year, they invite organisations to set up shop so that funds can be raised for New Era and the organisations. This time round, we were selling footwear, bread, body lotion and beaded handicraft. It was quite a a failure as most people just scoffed at the bread, lotion and handicraft. Luckily, the shoes caught the eyes of most female visitors. Same as last year, it was bloody hot. We were practically baking under the merciless sun. To me, it seemed that the number of visitors had dwindled. And so, "business" was affected. So much sweat for peanuts. One girl was so adversely affected by the merciless sun that she kinda passed out. However, it was not the roaming St John's Ambulance people that treated her, but a couple elders from the Negeri Sembilan Old Boys Association. The seated her on a chair and started channeling chi! I was half expecting to see some smoke and spinning.

To escape the heat and boredom, SK and I would roam to the other parts of college that were more shaded. Nothing much to see really. The live performances were kinda sucky, and eye candy was few and far in between. However, seeking out air-conditioning was relatively easy. We managed to curi tulang at the graduation exhibition of their communication and arts students. Some interesting talent among the arts students. The few that particularly caught my eye was a set of paintings featuring Penang's heritage buildings. The artist had an interesting perspective and brush style. Another graduationg student, fired up her kiln to produce ceramic aluminium cans. I've never seen anything like it. The rest were quite mediocre.

We closed shop at around 2:00pm and upon arriving home, I dozed off 3 hours to make up for waking up at 6:00am on a Sunday morning! Until next time...
