Cantin and Carnival

Image
Heritage Village in Paradigm Mall declared that they are the Nasi Lemak King, but if you're craving for creamy santan rice with sambal , you can also get your fix at Cantin , right opposite their lot. Their rice is green with pandan colouring, and the curry chicken comes in thick, rich gravy. And my hot drink came with a slice of cream crackers. A great place to have lunch after church. At the center court, an Easter carnival ( read "Karnival Propaganda Kristian" ) was set up with all sorts of games. Luckily we had free tickets to play those 'rigged' games ( some purposely distract you with cuties ). Went home with small bear from rubber ducky fishing. Blew the rest of my tickets with nerf guns and baseballs. Dinner was at another new-ish Chinese restaurant in my neighbourhood-- Restoran 11 Steamed Fish Head . Ironically, steamed fish heads aren't exactly their specialty, it's actually fish head in general. You can have it in a steamboat, curry

Qing Ming Curios

Image
Naturally not too long after CNY, Qing Ming comes around, and the seasonal goods sold in the morning market changes tune. Paper offerings for the deceased start to appear, and the variety never ceases to intrigue me. This year I spotted: Haselime Snow - The Hell equivalent of Hazeline Snow. Cerlsberg and Tigor - Carlsberg and Tiger in Hell Miloo - Hell's favourite not-so-healthy drink of Milo Oat DG28 - Granny needs to take care of her cholesterol levels in Hell too, Oat BG28 F&M - F&N expands their market to Hell Had a plate of Daniel's wantan noodles for breakfast, and chicken soup for lunch. And drip coffee during tea time. Gave Fung V , a Chinese restaurant in Equine Park a try. The place was full but we were lucky enough to secure a table. Tried claypot tofu and steamed tilapia. Good food, and the waitress was good in giving recommendations, knowing how to balance between portion, cooking style, and flavour. Not many restaurants give a shit.

From Town Hall to the Hills

Image
For six months, we had mostly been left to our own devices. Then my CEO called for a town hall meeting to announce how much money we had lost, and outlined the way forward. Yikes, yikes, and yikes. Still have a job, but its gonna be way tougher. That revelation was followed by our annual dinner ( yes, we still have money budgeted for food ) at Tropicana Golf Club. The great thing about the evening's event was that it was graced by my group chairman who gave a short speech, and handed out certificates to staff who had been given recognition by the management. Of course the certificates didn't mean much, but how often does one get to shake hands with one of the richest men in Malaysia? Following that, we had a team building at Selesa Resort. A double-decker bus picked us up from the office early in the morning and we were off. A short registration later, we went to the coffee house for breakfast. Right after a quick ice-breaking session, we were sent off on an Amazing Race

Tater in Town: Pavilion Potato

Image
Tater was in town again and we agreed to meet at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur because it was close to his hotel. Once again, he surprised me with sexy underwear-- this time a pair from Singapore's XCIT3. It was an interesting pair of cut-away bikinis called Ethan  ( for all I know was named after his cute Vietnamese friend in the States ). The pouch has a dual construction where one can move away the front to reveal an inner pouch. Definitely need to shave to rock this pair. Thanks again. Asked what he felt like having for the night and he answered Italian ( probably wanted a cute Asian twink as well ). We went for dinner at Bello , on the 6th floor, an NKOTB Italian restaurant. We shared a funghi and feta pasta, and a diavola pizza. Not too much, as Goldilocks says, "Just right". Something sweet at KAKIGŌRI ended our Tuesday evening meet-up. Definitely my first and last time ordering their "Watermelon". Will stick to the tea-based items. Yikes. While sharing

March into Nu Skin

Image
The middle of March was dominated by Nu Skin activities at Setia Alam Convention Center: 10th - Success Seminar 11th - STWW Millionaire Success Training 12th - GSCT The star of Success Seminar on Saturday was definitely the LumiSpa, Nu Skin's latest skin cleansing device. I've been using it since last year, and I must say that my skin now matches KH in terms of smoothness, and I'm gradually seeing the black heads disappear. The other star of the seminar was Ms. Vera Waters and Mr. Benny Chung from Hong Kong. Both are perfect examples of the power of  AgeLOC technology. Their added age is 137. They really don't look it.  The STWW Millionaire Success Training was a more of a generic training for distributors to better visualize their dreams and goals. On the other hand, the GSCT is an intensive training organized by the many success stories in Nu Skin. Many important lessons were imparted and in very powerful ways.  See you at the top!

Simon's CNY Soirée

Image
For several years now, I have been attending Love Eternal Charity Association of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur's CNY gathering with mum. This Christian non-profit organization primarily works with single parent families, providing them with monetary and non-monetary support. 2018's event ( their 18th ) nearly didn't happen because of the recent death of their founder, the late Reverend Dorcas Wong. But they pulled through anyway, so there we were at SJK(C) Chung Kwo. The luncheon was attended by around twenty charity organizations, including old folks homes, the handicapped, the visually-impaired, the hearing-impaired, single mothers, and dialysis patients. During the lunch, there were many performances, mostly song and dance. And what's a CNY luncheon without a lion dance right? And thank goodness they used the traditional Big Head Monk. At the end of the event, they gave out goodie bags to everyone. Several months ago, SimonLover proposed a CNY gathering at his co

Church Farewell

Image
A member of my BEC was leaving KL for Kuching after spending 18 years in Peninsular Malaysia. Let's call her ZZ. She organized a CNY gathering at her flat for several friends, and mum and I were invited. It was actually our first time visiting her flat in Taman Medan. Typical of low cost flats, the place looked pretty run down. When we arrived at her floor, the whole lift lobby was a playground for a bunch of kids. From the lift lobby, there were four radiating corridors. We went down one of them and tried looking for the correct unit which was quite difficult due to how to house number was nailed right on top of the grill. Two kids tailed us like puppies and asked us which unit we were looking for. Kids: "Rumah nombor apa?” Moi: "Lima puluh dua." Kids: "Bukan sini, belah sana." (They beckoned us to follow them) Moi: "Oh sini. Thank you!" Kids: "You are welcome." Should have enlisted their help earlier. Practically ushe

Seat of Power

Image
Remember the qipao that mum bought on the first day of Chinese New Year? It was specifically sourced for the "2018 Chinese New Year Grand Gathering" that was organized by the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia or more commonly known as HuaZhong. As it was a major event with our beloved PM ( ex-PM at the time of publishing ) as the guest of honour, mum had to go out quite early in the morning. While mum was out, KH and I had our skank session at home. Got KH to sit at the edge of the bed, while I saw on him. Must say that I never had such an experience on any 'chair' before! A much needed release. Picked mum up at around 1:00 PM. Helped her take some photos in front of the giant banner with Najib's head. She told me that she met Tan Sri Quek Leng Chan at the event.  Tea time was a carb fiesta with miku , nian gao coated with crushed peanuts, and bakzhang! At night, I treated Sis to an ageLOC spa session. LumiSpa, Galvanic Spa, the works!

Sister and Staycation

Image
Years ago, I bought a cool blue and white shirt from an online merchant. The sizing was a bit off actually-- I couldn't button it all the way up. During my Vancouver trip in 2014, I brought it along, but by that time, I couldn't button it up at all! Opps. This year, I dug it out from an old suitcase, threw it in the washer, and decided to give it another try. Gosh, I could finally fit into it. Thank you Nu Skin TR90! So, I wore that to work on casual Friday. That Friday, I got a FB message from Nicky05's darling who had spotted me at my workplace. He recognized me from my shirt ( I had posted in FB earlier in the day ). Turns out that we both work in the same office complex. Such a small world. I ate lunch with SK at Bankara Ramen , Avenue K. CNY was still heavy in the air because while we were eating, a lion dance was going on in the cramped restaurant! Then it was coffee at Juan Valdez . To celebrate my sister's birthday, we had a movie night at IOI Mall. For

Canine CNY IV: Bacon, BFF, & Birthday

Image
The Tribe made a date with mum and I to have a porky breakfast at  Bacon and Balls , Happy Garden. Although we tried to order a variety of stuff, we ended up with loads of eggs and bacon on the table. Just different combinations of it. Thank goodness we asked them to omit the bread. But I did like the Signature Meatball Platter. Platter is not a suitable word to use actually. It's actually a tasting plate of four types of meatballs-- pork, chicken, beef, and lamb. Halfway through breakfast, the neighbouring vegetarian shop had a lion dance. We went out to take a look at the 'breakfast entertainment'. The lion dance troupe looked like they forgot their morning coffee. So lethargic. And the red crackers went out so quickly that it might as well had been a sneeze. In the afternoon, had a coffee and cake session with KH, Apollo, and  Don . Met at MTree Hotel in Puchong Jaya, not a place I would have ever visited if not for Don's recommendation. There's a cafe

Canine CNY III: Lovely Lunch

Image
By CNY3, we were back in church because it was a Sunday. Sis and the two monsters arrived at my place early for breakfast. A favourite for the monsters was my maternal uncle's miku . Each of them ate two! And they still wanted more. After church, we went to lunch at Apollo's home, at the invitation of his mum. A feast was prepared for us-- a total of ten dishes! Fish maw egg drop soup. Egg roll. Stir-fried jicama. Curry chicken. Stir-fried vegetables. Fried pomfret. Roasted chicken. Vietnamese rice paper rolls. Deep-fried meat dumplings. Braised chicken with sea cucumber. All of us retreated to the living room like beached whales after that huge meal. The monsters dug out all of Apollo's party games: Ice Breaking Save The Penguin ( Little Monster's favourite ) Pop Up Pirate ( simple and fast ) Falling Tumbling Monkeys ( takes ages to set up )

Canine CNY II: Family and Food

Image
On the second day of CNY, we made a trip to Perak to visit relatives. Supposed to start our journey bright and early, but we were delayed by an hour because mum overslept! A very rare occurrence. In usual cases, she would be so worked up over the trip that she would hardly get any sleep. The whole night long she would be going up and down, packing this and that. Our first stop was at my maternal uncle's place in Pekan Baru, Teluk Intan. Had my breakfast there of yummy Anson CCF. And as luck would have it, my maternal cousin from Bagan Sungai Burung came in an Estima filled to the brim with my boisterous nephews and nieces. Definitely livened things up. My aunt prepared lunch, and we ate before leaving to visit my mum's younger sister. I don't remember ever going to her house. By that time, the heat was so unforgiving that we nearly melted. The third house we in our list was my dad's sister-in-law. Whenever we visit her, it's usually in the morning, but this

Mall Celebrities: Wefie Winston

Image
Spotted cutie Wefie Winston at the Gardens Mall, taking a wefie with his sister during the first day of CNY. Fair and lovely, no? And a loving sibling with a smile that lights up his face. Wouldn't mind taking a wefie with him in bed. Bwahahaha.
