Viet Vomit

Hari ini dalam sejarah : 15 years ago, the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center were downed by terrorists. In 2016, I barfed out a bowl of pho ( too sweet for my liking ) from Lucky Quan , Kuchai Lama. I took ten steps out of the restaurant and ended up bent over the drain to empty the contents of my stomach. Breakfast and lunch was expelled together with the gusto of Regan from "The Exorcist". Static washed over my vision and I just rested there, catching my breath. According to my mother, I turned white as a sheet and sweated profusely. Don't worry about eating there, it wasn't the food. Immediately headed for the clinic and went home after that. Slept and slept and slept. Some time in the afternoon, KH came over to see how I was doing. That was very sweet of him. Made me forget my illness for a while. I had a church pilgrimage the next day, so I needed to get well fast!

Zombies & Qipaos

Image
A zombie movie from Korea is as groundbreaking as kimchi from India. Watched it with KH after a huge lunch at Bru Cafe , Faber Towers. The calzone we ordered was big enough to feed two. On top of that, I ordered a mound of pasta topped with a cheese covered baked chicken thigh. If you're a fan of cheese wheel pastas, you can have that there too. " Train to Busan "  was surprisingly good. The premise is quite fresh, zombies on a train. Definitely better than snakes on an aircraft. Character development was present. It was fast-paced. There's some critique on society if you care to look for it. Funny moments properly planted. Eye candy provided by Gong Yoo ( unfortunately he didn't show any skin ). Perfect recipe for a likable movie. And so many memes appeared online since it coincided with major LRT breakdowns in the city. With the popularity of this movie, Korean beauty companies would undoubtedly roll out products to recreate that dazzling zombie complex

Drag Queens & Gay Games

Image
Sunday afternoon was spent at Paradigm Mall again. But this time there was something extra-- International Chinese Han Couture Pageant . The perfect pageant for people who want to live out their fantasy of being a member of the ancient royal court. From what I saw, there were several concubines, an empress and an empress dowager. The emperor's look was quite a failure cause he didn't don a wig. The emcee was doing some role playing and he used 奴婢 instead of 奴才. Wonder if its a slip of the tongue or perhaps he is a sister. Look at the last group photo-- the guy on the far right looks kinda twinky. In the evening, KH and I attended the Straits Games 2016 closing dinner at One Seafood Restaurant . The dinner is an awards ceremony and farewell dinner all rolled into one. I did not see a single familiar face in the dinner. A totally different segment of the gay community. KH and I sat with a bunch of gay badminton enthusiasts. Heard that there even was a gay badminton enthu

Yams and Yapping

Image
Brace yourselves, this is gonna be a post told in photos. First things first, hunting for yams at the OUG morning market. It's amazing how these little buggers generate so much buzz among the aunties. Mum says that these smaller yams are superior in taste and texture. Next up was a visit to the Chinese traditional medicine hall for a consultation. This time to improve mum's digestive tract. Found bars of crocodile oil face soap on the counter. Wonder if its Killer Croc's beauty secret. My lunch was a bowl of sinful dry curry noodles. Oh so thick, creamy and oily! Back home, I did my usual Saturday chores. My weekly routine was punctuated with a surprise visit from SK and Gratitude who had come with a box of baked  charsiew  buns ( unmistakably babi inside ) from  Fu Wah . Whipped up some tea and we had a great  minum teh  session. SK brought us to Choy Hi for dinner again. I ain't complaining cause we tried the other stuff on their menu. Fishballs were

A Rewarding Merdeka

Image
Mum had a full day workshop at church on the 31st of August, so it was Merdeka for me. Something about preparing for your twilight years. After dropping mum off, SK and I had a BKT breakfast at Yi Xin Ge . Went back home after that. At around 10:00 AM, KH roped me in to do some volunteer work for the Straits Games 2016 . For those not familiar with the event, its actually an annual sporting event to foster friendship and promote a healthy lifestyle in the LGBT Community. TSG celebrated its 15th anniversary in Kuala Lumpur. The organizing chairman needed some help to sort out the program books. When we arrived, several volunteers were already there. Met KH's friend whom I had not seen for 7 years or so. After ninety minutes or so, we left for an early lunch at Restoran Ho Boh . First time trying their abacus seeds. Actually quite oily because they stir fry the abacus seeds with thin strips of dried calamari. But of course the end result is also very fragrant. Retired

SAFRApore IV: Going Home

Image
It was time to checkout so we made good use of the bed for one last time. Still had a little time, so we went to the food court at Old Airport Road. Ate some fish soup and prawn noodles. Really old school there as most of the hawkers spoke Cantonese. Took the bus back and I spied a really horrible sign inside: The Malay is ... ugh ( no pineapple pen here ). Hate the sentence structure. We finished packing and took the MRT to Changi. Met up with Tater there who was catching his flight back to Bangkok. Tater passed us some egg custard mooncakes ( I dunno why this is popular ) from Hong Kong. Due to some weird circumstances, ZR was in Hong Kong for a day trip and he bought some back. Although it was a short trip, we managed to meet many friends and made good use of the time. P.S.: Tater's cookies didn't the survive the flight back to KL. Had to improvise a bit. I scooped some chocolate pecan ice cream, put in some sliced bananas and sprinkled liberal amount of cookie cr

SAFRApore III: The Half (Sweaty SG Boys Inside)

Image
At the designated ungodly hour, KH got up, donned his skanky pants, kissed me and went off to catch a cab to City Hall for the SAFRA Army Half Marathon . Flag off was at 5:00 AM. With sleep still thick on my eyes, I just gave him a few grunts of encouragement before falling back to sleep. Being the good hubby, I dragged myself to the 200 M mark before the finishing line to give KH some encouragement. The night before, Tater had given me instructions on the best place to wait. Unfortunately, I ended up on the wrong side of the road. But still, I kept my eyes peeled for KH. He was supposed to be done by 8:00 AM, but I didn't catch sight of him. Many more 10 KM runners compared to the 21.5 KM. Could easily tell them apart because they wore different colours. Suddenly, at 8:30AM, I received a call from KH. Rushed over to the Padang to meet him. Found him at the AIG tent with a black face. Turns out that DiGi's roaming had failed him and he had to borrow someone's phone to cal
