A VDay with Buddies

Image
Valentine's Day was like any other marketing Saturday, except for the fact that it was on the final weekend before CNY. The Chinese came out in full force to make last minute purchases. Even the pick pockets stepped up their activities with five cases reported by 9:00 AM ( vendors make periodic public service announcements ). Many were milling around the flower and dried seafood stalls. Not satisfied with her stash from the wet market, mum directed me to Giant for further shopping. Found that they set up a little something for VDay inside the Hypermarket to showcase suitable gift choices. Hope their Shariah Index would not be affected. In the afternoon, just did some chores and lazed around. Main activity of the day was dinner a 'double date + 1' at Basil Pasta House , Kuchai Lama ( you guessed it, Apollo, QueerRanter-D and SK ). By the time we arrived, it was already pretty full. Strangely, it was mostly a family affair rather than a couples' affair. Much cro

Sold Off

Out of the blue, the sale for mum's property in Bercham, Ipoh suddenly went through after some ding-dong with the Perak Land Office. The legal assistant gave me a call and spoke in machine gun Hokkien to get me to collect the cheque before CNY. Might as well do it. Applied for leave on the 12th of February and drove up to Teluk Intan after breakfast. The first time I drove my Almera out of town. Arrived at the legal firm before lunch time. Offset the legal fees with the proceeds from the sale. Signed a few documents and drove off with the cheques. One long-drawn headache finally at an end. Immediately visited St. Anthony's Church after that and made a thanksgiving mass offering. Went to lunch after that at Glutton Square . Not many choices at all. At least the CKT was good. Not oily and had wok qi . Stopped by at Teck Kee Enterprise after that for some shopping. It was more happening that usual due to CNY. The front of their shop was chock-full of CNY biscuits, arti

Mall Celebrities: Hot Alex

Image
The guy on the left la. In case you didn't know, the guy on the right is Alex Chee (another Alex, another straight guy) Bumped into Alex Choong the other day at Sungei Wang Plaza. Recognized him although he was fully-clothed in contrast to what I'm more used to-- Alex Choong in underpants. Well, the hottie was with a female friend. And he was all touchy-touchy with her. Guess he really is straight. Or bisexual. LOL. Enjoy.

Food Finds

Note: Gap post ahead, I'll let he photos do the talking. Been many years since my last visit to Sushi Express , so I convinced KH to bring me there when we were at Citylink Mall. Walked up and down, traversing Marina Square and Suntec City. Later in the day, we found ourselves at Raffles Hotel looking at a photography exhibition. Dinner was at Tonny Restaurant , Geylang. A recommendation by POD. Truth be told, I had some apprehension about eating at a restaurant that is named after the chef and even features his face prominently on the signboard. But my doubts were unfounded. Food was fantastic. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - delicious egg white with fish roe without the annoying-ness of Zhang Ziyi. Crispy Yam with Truffle Oil - perfect for a high-rise lou sang ! For dessert, we had the best Blackforest cake in Singapore at Stuttgart Blackforest Boutique S-Café . Extremely non-halal . Two thumbs up. One isn't enough. Suzy was drunk on cake.

Singapore Meet & Greet

We were supposed to have brunch with Tater at Cocotte on Saturday but that turned out to be a wild goose chase. Similar to what happened when Tater brought me to Tanglin Mall some weeks ago. Walking past two Hotel 81's ( that kind of place ), we finally arrived at Wanderlust Hotel ( a heritage building with very hipster interior decoration ), where the restaurant is situated. Firstly, it wasn't gonna be open for another hour. Secondly, they only have a buffet for weekend brunch. At SGD50++ per head, we ran as fast as we could. Tater brought us to Lowercase in La Salle School of Arts. Although I passed by that place numerous times, I never noticed the existence of that food joint! Huge, airy space perfect for parties. And if you have kids, dump them at the inflatable castle at the lower floor. Quite convenient. On weekends, they serve items from two menus, the extra menu being from Bookshop Cafe on Clarke Quay. And I nearly brought home their order pager. Usually i

Our 8th Year Together

All my colleagues flew home to KL on that Friday, leaving me to shag without any risk of interruption. During the day, KH did some banking but ended up not meeting MoonlightPiggy cause her terminally ill aunt had passed away ( rest in peace ). Once I got off work, I headed back to the hotel to meet my darling. He had made reservations at a nearby Italian restaurant in Kg. Glam called Cichetti . Our reservation was for 8 pm, but since we were both hungry as heck, we gave it a try 45 minutes earlier. Funny that I am now the one who navigates instead of KH. At the door, the waitress told us that she had no table for us. Crap. Thankfully there was a kopitiam two doors down called Dong Po Colonial Cafe ( n, they don't serve Dong Po meat ). From the name you can guess that the interior decoration is quite retro with a lot of old memorabilia. We shared a teh c and a bostock ( thankfully it was in stock ). What's a bostock you may ask? Well, it's actually a slice of crispy toas

Tater Treat

On my first night in Singapore, Tater booked me for dinner. Unfortunately, I was running a bit late that evening because a client was asking for documentation and it had to do with my part. Blegh. Told Tater that I might be late. He told me no problem and would only pop the chicken into the oven when I told him I was leaving office. Only then did I know he was cooking! Turns out it was for a special occasion-- my anniversary with KH! Gosh, so nice of him. When I arrived, he was busy in the kitchen whipping up some corn ( no, he wasn't dressed in an apron and underwear only LOL ). The cream sauce chicken was in the oven. He 'riced up' the chicken by using Tsao Tsing wine instead of cooking Sherry. For carbs, he boiled some brown rice. The meal was Tater-licious. Normally my room had a copy of the Holy Bible placed by the Gideons. This time round, I had The Teaching of Buddha. A first for me. On Thursday evening, the highlight of my trip arrived at Changi Airport, i.e.

Jap Out, Jap In

Sunday mass as usual with me wondering where to go KL for lunch. Mum suggested Ipoh Road YTF but I couldn't remember how to get to the OKR branch. Gave up on that and went to Ishin instead. Quite an extreme alternative in terms of cuisine and price. Mum had not been there before so that was OK. Love the fact that they have free valet parking but I really dislike their iPad menu. Always better to flip through a physical menu. Easier to decide and make an order especially when it's not linked to an order taking system. Took me a while to decide on Tuna Tataki Salad, grilled Sanma and nigiri sushi . Was impressed by the salad in terms of quality and value for money. And it was interesting to note that the Sanma was grilled without first gutting it. Seems that it's quite the norm. Never quite noticed that. In the evening, I had dinner at MaisonSK. The usual gang was invited including KH. The star of the night was Brian's ajitama which he made following a video he
