Chiang Mai II: Chiang Rai

Image
Woke up at 6:00 AM... who wakes up at 6:00 AM when on holiday! KH had booked a day trip to Chiang Rai, so we were supposed to be picked up at 7:00 AM. The van came by at Chang Moi Road and we were greeted by a pair of gentlemen who introduced themselves as Steve and Yoat. Steve was the guide and Yoat was the driver. Naturally Steve spoke better English, but he does sound like a Thai Nanny Fine. He has a super slitty-eyed look and a wispy moustache, giving him a super Cina look. When he speaks, he starts each sentence "How do you say..." and ends with "Ahaaaa...". Five stops later we picked up an Indonesian couple, a Vietnamese couple, two Spanish couples and a girl of unknown nationality. The drive to Chiang Rai took 3.5 hours, with a twenty minute stop at a shitty hot spring. Basically a hot spring fountain with a sign surrounded by lots and lots of souvenir shops. And right outside the public toilet ( THB5 per use of course ), one could soak one's legs in a

Chiang Mai I: The City of Somtheaws

Unlike your garden variety 'pious' gay lou, I don't make a yearly pilgrimage to Thailand. Truth be told, my last trip there was in 2008 with the BFF. SK, Apollo, Lifebook and QueerRanter-D planned a trip to Bangkok during the Malaysia Day weekend while KH and I did Chiang Mai. I didn't feel like going to BKK again. Might as well visit a different part of the country. But I think after seven years, the capital should be pretty different from what I remembered. Our flight was at 2:50 PM departing from KLIA2. Lunched at CBTL , Gateway @ KLIA2. Thrilled that I could use my Citibank B1F1 privileges there since technically it's not an airport branch. The flight was smooth and we reached CNX on schedule. At the arrival hall was surprised that all the men were required to fill up an extra form. No idea why. KH and I didn't take a taxi out of the airport but he hailed a somtheaw ( covered pickup truck ) from the roadside! That only cost us THB50 per person. Panda

Mother-Son Malaysia Day

Malaysia Day was a family outing for me, quality time with mum and KH. Hehe. We headed to The Gardens Mall for some shopping. The roads were clear and there were 1400+ available parking bays. All thanks to the Red Shirt Rally. Many decided to play it safe and spend the day at home. Hence the mall was also quiet and we found nothing interesting on the shelves. Even the mid-autumn feel was limited to a small section of the mall. Brought mum for a dim sum yum cha session at Grand Harbour , the very traditional thing for a son-in-law to do. Got some durian puffs which I didn't touch and KH's favourite custard buns. Also ordered char siew pastry which was quite good. I also liked their teng zai congee cause it had lots of stuff in it. Closed with a plate of signature fried bihun and that made for a great lunch. Bumped into Pikey and a bunch of his friends having lunch at Brotzeit. Been a long time since we met up. Sensing that KH felt a bit bored, I sent him off to Sharky who

Mee Raja

Believe it or not, I had never eaten at Murni Discovery before. Many years ago, I was supposed to have a gathering at the their popular SS2 outlet, but when I saw the chaotic crowd of uni students there, I immediately turned away and headed for a quieter place. Today, they have 8 locations around Klang Valley. While waiting for mum to finish her massage, I lepak -ed at their Kepong Metro Perdana branch. Of course I ordered their signature Mee Raja . When the plate arrived, I could not help but stare at the obscene portion of noodles. I understood why they provide take away boxes at the public areas cause no normal person could finish that alone. Taste-wise, its nothing to shout about really. Ate what I could and packed the leftovers for mum. Not sure about their items though. Any recommendations? I'll end my post with a blurry photo of a twunk I saw there. Can't make out his features, but I think you can see that his arms are quite sexy!
