Raya II: Spring Cleaning

Image
On the second day of Raya, mum and I went on a spring cleaning spree. Not really sure why. LOL. Mopped the floor; Burnished some bronze; Waxed the top of my car ( I'm a procrastinator ); Cleaned all the fans; Phew! For lunch, mum pan-fried a chunk of salmon fillet and boiled a daikon -pea soup. In the evening, MaisonSK hosted dinner. She was most probably bored out of her mind cause she was stuck at home with her granny. She whipped up some soupy rice vermicelli with meat dumplings and sliced pork. I met KH for coffee after that. He wanted to try the hidden cafe in Happy Garden called La Faro . Never expected such a place in a residential area, right opposite the Nalanda Education & Outreach Centre. La Faro occupies two shop lots and serves food and drinks. We shared a flat white and a slice of non- halal tiramisu. Both of us tried the cake and found it thoroughly lacking in non- halal -ness. KH went over to the counter to make a query. Turns out they gave us the hal

Raya I: Kopi & Yezo

Satu Syawal datang menjelma, Makan pagi di Damai Utama, Bersama SK dan ibu semua, Takde jemputan ke rumah terbuka. Mum had a lunch gathering, so I sent her out to Citrus Park where her friend picked her up. Turned over to Kuchai Lama after that to pick KH up for some lovin'. Worked up a sweat at my place and we went out to lunch at 1:30 PM. Gave Sushi Roiyaru a try following a recommendation from Sharky. Apparently Japanese restaurants at Sri Petaling aren't cheap and Sushi Roiyaru is no exception. None of the sets piqued our interest so we went for ala carte. Surprised to see salmon sausage on the menu, so we tried that. Also got some white tuna sashimi , kyuri roll ( their signature ) and some nigiri sushi . Went coffee hunting after that. The nearest was Espresso & Single Origin, but KH was not impressed. Then walked to 103 Coffee Workshop but it was busy and noisy as heck. coffea Coffee was the same. In the end, we left for Kuchai Lama and went to Shep

Kepong Capers

Sent mum to Kepong for a massage on Sunday. Utilized the lucky draw voucher that she got from a Parent's Day dinner at KLSCAH. The place was at Kepong Entrepreneur's Park. Been ages since I drove to that neck of the woods. Arrived kinda early, so we had a quick lunch at a shop that served charcoal-roasted char siew . First time ever I saw char siew served separately from soupy wantan noodles. While mum enjoyed the massage, I camped in Cafe Nelson Tan . Spent two and half hours there cause the ninety minute massage started late. Ordered a cup of hazelnut white coffee and mango pudding to keep me company. According to the waitress, they grind their own coffee beans, but I think they're a bit heavy-handed on the flavoured syrup. I mixed in approximately half a cup of boiling water to suit my palate. The mango pudding didn't taste artificial and it actually contained some chunks of fresh mango. Paired with a compote of sour-ish berries and sitting in a shallow cream bat

Are You Gila-Gila?

Image
I grew up with Gila-Gila and Ujang. When my brother returned from Alam Shah boarding school, he would normally bring home a few of those comics. Normally it would be Hari Raya bumper issues that he buys at the bus station for the long trip back. Would go through those issues over and over again until they end up looking like ham choi . So when Galeri Petronas had the "Lagi-Lagi Gila-Gila" exhibition, I had to attend. It was really a trip down memory lane with 200 pieces of original artwork ranging from comic strips, editorial cartoons, rare first editions and sketches and drawings. The humour was quite universal with simple laughs and satirical pieces that required thinking and knowledge on current issues. As BERNAMA reported, "Those were the days when satire was a source of laughter, not a charge under the Sedition Act". Time to relive some 'madness'... I end this post with a quote from Profesor Serba Tahu: "Waktu kanak-kanak kita cuku

Market Celebrities: Starfruit Stephen

Image
The wet market at OUG was a little quieter than usual. No idea why though. Following KH's recommendation, I ate at Daniel's Wantan Noodles stall. Above average quality with the proper aroma of piggy oil. At the starfruit stall, I saw a couple of guys who kinda pinged my gaydar. The guy in the cap was pretty hunky in tight shorts that showed off his ass. Oh la la. I bestow upon him the title Starfruit Stephen and accept him into the order of Market Celebrities. Back home, did my usual routine of sweeping and mopping the floor to clear the weekly cockroach massacre. Lunch was home cooked noodles. Later in the afternoon, I washed the car and completed waxing my car. Only the roof was left. Took me half a year to wax the whole car. LOL. I should just pay to get it done. Dinner was at MaisonSK. A dual celebration that evening-- Brian's birthday and CK's return from Edinburgh ( but he was flying back the next morning LOL ). Before dinner I found the time to swim,

New Stock

Come to think of it, I have not blogged about underwear in ages. If I had a body like James Pianka, The Underwear Expert's style reporter, perhaps I would even vlog! Anyway, this is just a quick update on the latest acquisitions in my ever-growing collection of undies. KH recently surprised me with three pairs of sporty GX3 hipsters. Hugs your booty low enough to show some crack. And the synthetic material is super silky and comfortable. The pouch is well-designed too. My first for his sexy Japanese brand. The next item I bought at a whim from Kitschen. I'm not a fan of their clothes but as I was burning time during Friday lunch hour, I spied their boxer shorts with super cute prints! Smiling whales and cartoon-y cars. I grabbed both! Perfect for lounging at home. Think its something new from them. Everyone wants to try their hand at underwear.

Water Woes Again

Image
Took Monday off to replace Nuzul Quran on Saturday. Perfect opportunity for me to check out the water woes at home. Recently, the water bill had been erratic with the last outstanding balance at MYR100+. How can two persons with no cleaning obsession use that much water a month!? The plumber wasn't coming in so early. When I called him some time before 9:00 AM, he answered the phone groggily. Think he was still sleeping. Went to breakfast with mum at Taman Damai Utama. When he came, we did some testing and eliminated some possibilities. In the end, he put his suspicion on the bathrooms. Odds were high at the master bedroom. The pipes were empty after the valve was closed indicating some abnormal beaviour. Think we heard a constant trickling sound behind one wall. The plumber left some time before noon and asked me to monitor the meter closely after letting the water tank fill up. Don't think he will be returning anytime soon to solve my problem. Lets see what the bill amount
