Japan 0: Getting There was Half the Fun

Image
Arielle Nadel, on Flickr My maiden voyage to Osaka was 100% orchestrated by SK in November 2013. She contacted her travel agent, PluBoy to settle all the flight tickets and hotel bookings. Not an easy task, as the trip involved KH, my mum and The Tribe. Just a short trip, so we were able to fit it into the Aidilfitri long weekend. Although I had gotten the flight itinerary months in advance, I only noticed a spelling error on my mother's ticket two days before we flew. Why two days you may ask? That's when MAS allows you to perform web check-in ( cute right? ). I only noticed after I checked-in for my mum. In my panic, I gave PluBoy a call. He told me that I had to settle it the MAS ticketing office at that juncture. I called their customer service. I was on hold for approximately twenty minutes. The CSO told me that he was not authorized to correct the name on the ticket because there was more than 24 hours before flight time. He could only do it closer to the flight time

Early Church, Early Work

Woke up bright and early on Saturday morning to have wantan noodles at Kong Kee . Mum decided not to go to OUG that day, so just grabbed a few items from the grocery stores in Puncak Jalil. On the way back home, stopped by at the playground where mum's friends were resting after their morning jog. Here's what transpired: Neighbour: So good that your son drives you around. My son is still sleeping! Moi: If you want, you can tumpang my car next time. Neighbour: Good, good. But I wish my son would be like you. So good. Still not yet have girlfriend ah? Go after my daughter la! Although someone is wooing her, I'll put in a good word for you! Moi: .................................. My mother just changed the topic. Phew. At noon, we went out to have lunch at Nihon-Kai . It was a full house that afternoon with a family even dining out on the pavement in the heat wave. Gratitude joined us. It was good as we had not had a proper meet up in months. He paid for lunch. Alw

Monday and Tuesday

For the first time, the Federal Territories enjoyed a holiday for Nuzul Al-Quran . And with it falling on a Tuesday, I declared Monday a holiday for myself. Woke up late, freshened up and went over to my sister's place. Had a quick breakfast and went out to fetch Big Monster from kindergarten. Stopped for lunch at Restoran Sun Yun Heong Yun , Taman Damai Utama. Heard about this YTF place for months, but never went looking for it. Little Monster ate the porridge and salmon steak that my mum had packed, while Big Monster had the noodles that I ordered. Both of them were super hungry. The soup noodles and YTF were actually quite good. Will come back again to try their other stuff. Brought them all out to run some errands, then got back home at about 3:30 pm. Time for Little Monster's nap. Coincidentally, SK had 'snaked' too, so we went out to AEON Taman Equine to yumcha at Wong Kok Char Chan Teng . Feeling a little masochistic, SK ordered french toast. That pan-fried br

The Hunt for Nasi Dagang

Note: Hello! I'm back! Was I missed? Did anyone lodge a missing blogger report? God-forbid did my visitor stats go down the toilet? Actually, I've just finished doing my laundry and reading all the mail, and my body is telling me it's bedtime although it's just 4:54 pm. Wish me luck battling jet lag and wish me luck writing about my great Canadian adventure with KH and processing the gigabytes of photos that I took! Meanwhile, I shall serve up more stale posts that are now two and a half months late! Enjoy. :D At Ante Kitchen the night before, Lifebook was telling me about a nasi dagang joint in Damansara Uptown. Initially, I thought it was Hayaki Cafe, a place famous for its indifferent, slow as molasses service. Turned out to be Capital Nasi Dagang ( 100% BUKAN milik bumiputera Melayu ). Needed Waze to navigate around that confusing place. Even on a Sunday its full of cars. Thankfully, Capital was located at one of the quieter rows. When mum and I arrived after

VAN

Hi guys and gals. KH is flying to Vancouver today for his Society of Actuaries’ Fellowship Admissions Course today and I'm tagging along. All his years of hard work had finally paid of. Although it sounds like my ticket to Tai-Tai -hood, I'm not quite there yet. Anyway, we'll be in Canada for a fortnight, so this blog might grow some cobwebs in that time. Wish us a pleasant journey and hope that I can get lots of spy pics of Canadian cuties! See ya!

Fitting In

Replenished groceries and fresh produce at the wet market on Saturday morning. Nothing out of the ordinary at all. Wanted to eat my favourite breakfast soup noodles at the lorong , but they weren't open! Gasp. So unheard of. That's how the Chinese are-- work, work, work, work, work then take long leave during the Lunar Chinese New Year. Or for the more calculative, make a killing during that period. But anyway, if you're at the OUG wet market, you may wanna consider having the Penang curry laksa stall at Restoran Sun Sea . The uncle has retired and the stall is now manned by two twinks. Go check it out. LOL. Back home, mum fired up the juicer. A great combination of Taiwanese white bittergourd and apples. Not bitter, but the after-taste is very refreshing. Wanna get my hands on more of the stuff. During lunch, mum whipped up some mee suah in chicken soup and topped it with poached free-range chicken egg. Wholesome and yummy. In the afternoon, KH came over to show off his

Little Monster, Little Eats

Image
Took half day leave on Monday to go to the lawyer's office. Woke up at about 8:00 am, freshened up and went out to buy breakfast. Ate the bittergourd noodles at my sister's house. At that time, Little Monster was already up and about. And his mood was exceptionally well that morning. Enquired my sister as to his lack of crankiness and she revealed that he had sufficient sleep the night before. In his hand was a large ham bun generously lathered with mayo. Sat him down at the dining table and his buffet continued: Milo Bittergourd noodles Bread with butter, blueberry jam and peanut butter Soft-boiled egg My appointment at the lawyer firm was at 11:00 am. Didn't take me long to reach IOI Boulevard. Took the wrong elevator and ended up a housing developer's office instead. The dapper gentleman in tight shirt and heavily-pomaded hair pointed me in the right direction. At the lawyer's office, I was given a run through of the legal shit I was gonna get myself int
