Peacock and Dinosaur

Image
The kids were still with us after the All Soul's Day trip. My brother was still in KL, so we all went out to Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. The kids complained that I chose Japanese food for lunch, but I made some selections that were more aligned to their palette, e.g. cheesy grilled chicken, and sliced pork soup. Still in time to catch the Deepavali decorations at the mall. With the help of a private college, Pavilion decorated the concourse with a huge kolam that's supposed to be the train of a giant peacock! Very impressive. At the end of our shopping session, we went to the food court for coffee. Got Little Monster a Milo Dinosaur. It was a first for him, and he loved the messy process of drinking that. Personally, I dislike coagulated Milo powder.

Unicorn Rainbow

Every once in a while, MySale will have some sexy underwear on sale, for example Andrew Christian. Postage ain't exactly cheap, so I usually jio SimonLover to join me. That fella is more adventurous than me when it comes to underwear. Must check out his full collection one day. Spied a pair of long rainbow socks on the website and I immediately had to get it. Even had a unicorn on it. Double the gayness! Such novelty socks are perfect for sexy photo shoot. Don't you agree?

Balloons For Bulan

Image
For some reason, I had stayed away from Mutiara Damansara for many a year. eCurve, Ikano Power Center, and IKEA didn't excite mum and I anymore. A recent sponsored post on Facebook alerted me about beautiful balloon art at IPC ( Ikano rebranded ) in conjunction with the mid-autumn festival, so I decided to go take a look. I was shocked to find that IPC was a complete transformation. The place underwent an IKEA-fication. There was a big food court at the lower ground, but it was a little claustrophobic due to the close quarters and low ceiling. But that's my only complain. The rest of the space was great. We ate lunch at Hana Japanese Dining , a fusion Japanese restaurant from Taiwan. I love the menu for the simple fact that it's unusual. Many new things to try. From their hors d'oeuvres menu, I chose a sampling trio. What tickled my taste buds the most was the Hawaiian Maki, a rice-less roll using salmon belly. And the it has a nice crunch from all the fish roe. T

Pan Mee, Pavilion, and Pork Soup

Image
My Sunday lunch was a simple meal at Ha Ha Pan Mee and Little Thai Cuisine at Aman Suria. Recently developed a liking for Loh Pan Mee . A word of warning, this shop doesn't make a very good loh . Went to Pavilion after that for a bit of shopping. Didn't buy much of anything. Stopped at Dean and Deluca to rest our legs. Malaysia's first branch and it's pretty basic. Limited menu, simple store design, and no products on sale. Apple crumble' and flat white is pretty decent. From Pavilion, we went to Tung Shin Hospital to visit my uncle from Sungai Burung who had been warded due to a stroke. More alert now, but he had his hands and legs restrained because he kept trying to pull out his feeding tube and get out of bed. The acupuncture treatments had begun but still no noticeable improvement. Later in the evening, we fetched our cousin out to dinner at Jalan Tun HS Lee. He loves the pork soup there. Pork is not something that he eats often in the fishing v

Haji Honolulu

Image
Hari Raya Haji was a day I spent at Sunway Pyramid with mum. To ensure sanity, we arrived early enough to easily find parking. As usual, we were like fish out of water at Sunway Pyramid. Don't really know what to shop, and what to eat there. Honolulu Cafe looked like something new, so we walked in. Turns out that this latest charchanteng is an extension from the main shop in Wan Chai, Hong Kong which is famous for its flaky egg tarts since the 1940s. In an attempt to gauge the quality of the food, we shared an egg tart, pineapple bun, and a plate of rice with roasted duck and roasted pork. Both pastries were pretty good, but the roasted duck was bland. Roasted pork was delicious though. A cup of their coffee is RM6.40, not exactly cheap.  Met JC that evening, a new friend from Kuching. He was starting a new job in Kuala Lumpur after a few false starts in his hometown. Picked him up from his condo in Taman Yarl and brought him to Happy Garden for a late dinner. Then we had c

Japan Descends on Pavilion

Image
The inaugural Japan Expo was held in 2017 at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. That all-Japan event kinda escaped my notice. In 2018, they managed to lure me to the 3-day event with a lucky draw prize via LINE Messenger. I got it after the 7th try. Right after church, mum and I headed to Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. Traffic was quite good that day. Starting out at the crystal fountain, we spotted several cosplayers. Can't say that I could recognize any of the characters. Out of those few cosplayers, there was one guy in the Grade A category with great hair, makeup, and handsome features. Youngsters were lining up to get an autograph from him. Can anyone name him? As one of the main sponsors, Oyoshi had several stalls outside promoting their drinks, and selling some Japanese snacks like gyoza and ebiko bread. Air Asia also had their own kiosk to promote their airfare and tour packages. The main hub of activity was the centre court with more stalls and a  performance stage that had back to ba

PBD Then Pavi v2.0

Note: For some reason blogger decided to revert this post. Perhaps due to my switching between the Blogger website and the app. Luckily I had it cached somewhere else. Cracked my head thinking of a place to go for Sunday lunch. When I saw the Pusat Bandar Damansara sign, I just took the exit, and headed into DC Mall. Truth be told, that place is dead on weekends (the tenants don't even need to open their shutters!). Not to say it's not dead on weekdays, just dead-er. Haha. Strangely in that dead place, there is a cafe that is bustling with activity. That cafe is Birch. Good thing that they had ample staff to handle the hungry crowd. Mum and I had the Shakusha and Ulam Spaghetti. The former was a spicy baked eggs kind of dish, but with less eggs than I hoped for. The pasta was delicious, but for RM35 you would think that it could be less basic. They are actually famous for their burnt cheesecake, but we were to full to try. For those of you looking for an Instagram-ab

Slow Life Hokkaido VII: Shopping at Sapporo

Image
Sapporo was just a short drive from Otaru, under an hour. Like most of the cities in Japan, very block-ish in design, hence contains a barrage of traffic lights and cross-junctions. Parked our car at one of many public parking spots ( the one we parked at had a clamp at the bottom that only released after paying the bill ) and went on foot. Spent most of our time there shopping really. So many drug stores with Chinese-speaking staff. However, with the Payke app, you can get most English product information just by scanning the barcode. In addition to drug stores, we also went treasure hunting at Donki ( amazing selection of sex toys ), Daiso, Book-off, etc. We had our lunch at Ginza Lion beer hall. Great place for Western food. At around 3:00 PM, we left Sapporo for Chitose. Dropped mum and Sis off at the AirBnB, while Bro and I went to pump petrol and return the rental. FYI, some petrol stations in Japan have the service and self-service pumps. Unknowingly, I stopped at the sel

Slow Life Hokkaido VI: Out and About in Otaru

Image
The journey from Hakodate to Otaru took us another four hours in a north-easterly direction. I must say that Otaru was the hottest in our whole trip. The sun was blazing and we all dumped our jackets in the car. Like Hakodate, Otaru is also a port city with a long history. The pride of the city is the Otaru Canal. Tourists often take cruises on the canal to admire the old warehouses and merchant building lined along it. One look at a bunch Korean ladies baking in the sun deterred us from trying the same. Our tummies were growling after a short walk in the scorching sun, and we quickly went to find food. A PRC working at the tourist information center pointed us to Otaru Denuki Koji , a collection of twenty small restaurants in a heritage building. The place has a whimsical design, like a building out of Miyazaki's onsen town in "Spirited Away". Within a small courtyard was a statue of Udatsu Kozo, a statue with round-rim glasses holding a skewer  dango . Not al
