Hobbit Christmas

Image
One the eve of Christmas Eve (:P), went to watch "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" at GSC Signature, The Gardens Mall. While buying tickets, bumped into a friend who was doing the same. The difference was that we were on leave and he sneaked out of the office. :D. Quite an end to the Hobbit trilogy, though the book didn't really have enough substance for three movies. But it was interesting to see Galadriel going all ape shit on Sauron. Went to Tim Ho Wan after that. We weren't expecting much cause we've already heard all the bad comments. Thank goodness there was no line. Sampled their signature baked bun with BBQ pork. I wasn't impressed. KH commented that the real thing tastes nothing like that. Ideally eaten in Hong Kong or alternately Singapore. The Osmanthus jelly was quite fragrant with premium goji berries. The beefballs were disappointing due to its lousy texture. Just three items and we were outta there. Don't think I will be c

Sa-Tater-Day

On my next trip to Singapore, my brother invited me to dinner. Italian this time, his all time favourite. Dined at Trattoria Nonna Lina on Cantonment Road. The restaurant is named after the owner's Grandmother, Lina. Great food. Loved the spicy crab penne and the tiramisu is a must-have. My brother likes to gauge the quality of an Italian restaurant by ordering the panna cotta. Their rendition of that classic dessert passed with flying colours. Do give the restaurant a try when you're in that neck of the woods. As I was getting ready to go out for a mall crawl on Saturday, I wished Tater good morning. Told him I planned to check out the Christmas decorations around City Hall. As luck would have it, he was free to join since his lunch date was cancelled. Following KH's suggestion, I went to Raffles City first. Not much to see except some giant Christmas baubles. Tater was oozing patience following me on my aimless photography session ( ended up with nothing much to s

Deepavali... 2014!

Image
Like years past, I did not get any open house invitations for Deepavali and never bothered with the MIC functions, so the public holiday was spent shopping instead. Headed out quite early to One Utama, picking up KH along the way ( bonding session? ). Plenty of parking since we arrived so early and I guess many people took leave to balik kampung . Typical decorations of kolam at the mall, but this year they had a fat, squat and sequined peacock to liven things up. LOL. We watched a Korean movie called "Wedding Palace" , about a guy who has to get married before 30 or he'd die from an ancient curse. No subtitles at all, but I think my mum understood the general plot with my feedback at the important plot twists. No worries about talking during the movie since there were only two other people in the hall. The main actor Brian Tee had the look of someone who could star in Peter Le's "The Asiancy". Ate lunch at Ichiro Sushi , a hidden restaurant in Isetan

KL, Kari, KH, Kawan

As usual, Saturday was a marketing day for me. There was a BEC Gathering that night, so mum wanted to buy some ingredients for the potluck. My favourite noodles stall was closed so we tried a stall that we had never tried before. Airy and spacious, and the curry noodles were quite good too. Lunch we had home. Packed some Anson CCF from a factory at Jalan Hujan Rahmat. Surprisingly, it looked authentic, but taste wise it was too sweet and not quite as fragrant. In the afternoon, KH came a-calling. With no place better to go, we had drinks at Ocean Bubble House . First time there since they moved to the adjacent shop lot. Some additions to the menu, most obvious was the brewed coffee section. The place is now more 'open' with less opportunity for us to be a little naughty. Or perhaps we should just be openly naughty Haha. In the evening, I had rosary prayer session at a house in Jalan Badang. The area is just beside the highway, so getting there can be a little tricky if no

Jet Lag Wednesday

Departed from YVR on the 8th of September at 0200 and arrived in KUL on the 9th of September at 1225. On the two connecting flights of CX889 and CX723, I managed to watch several movies, but the most memorable was Thermae Romae II , a Japanese production about hot springs. It's actually a sequel about Lucius, a Roman architect who is transported to modern day Japan public baths where he gets inspiration for works back in his time. Very goofy, funny and plenty of skin. Haha. Both of us had missed Mid-Autumn Festival, but at least Cathay Pacific gave us mooncakes as dessert. In Malaysia, I was thrust back into a hot, humid and hazy environment. When I arrived home, the first thing I did was laundry. Didn't take a nap or anything as the goal was to stay awake as long as possible. Showered, packed all the souvenirs and went over to my sister's place to greet mum and The Tribe. Little Monster was in a surprisingly good mood when he saw me and dragged me here and there

KH was hankering for movie time with me so we went to Pavilion on Saturday afternoon to watch "Guardians of the Galaxy" . Noticed several new outlets there. Happened in just a span of few months. Now there's a new Taste Enclave there proving that non-Halal food courts are all the rage in higher end establishments. Another new place is Azzurro, an Italian Cafe-Restaurant. Also some upgrading in Food Republic and the newly-renovated ToastBox-Bread Talk pair. Basically went walking around since show time was in a few hours. When we got tired, we stopped at The Morning After coffee and a bagel. Judging by their lack of business, their location near Harvey Norman must be really bad. While surfing FB, I noticed that tuls was also in Pavilion, so I left a comment on his status. In just a few minutes, he came waltzing to the cafe with an entourage of two twinks-- Pidut and Boy X All three were new faces for me. They were celebrating tuls' birthday. So nice kan ? And
