More Babysitting

Image
Woke up bright and early on Saturday not because I had to go to the market, but because the kids were already banging on my door. Groggily, I got dressed and went out to breakfast with them. Mum no longer favoured our usual wantan mee haunt, so we went to the kopitiam next door instead. The wantan mee there is good too! Springy but the meat's kinda sweet though. Back home, I started a Peppa Pig marathon for the kids to shut them up. At 11:00 AM, sent Big Monster out to Seri Petaling for his science class. With all the recent development, Seri Petaling has gone from bad to worse. Too many cars, too little parking. It was just an hour, so we waited for him. Mum did some chores and we had some time to spare for lunch with SK. Lunched at Ipoh Chicken Rice 1977 , away from the horrible hustle and bustle. Little Monster got up just in time to makan . Just as I was leaving, Sharky turned up. But sadz  he never tegur me lo... ( but he messaged me afterwards, that's how I know LOL

Late for School

Image
By Wendy Andrews (Flickr) On Friday morning, Sis and BIL took an early flight to Guangzhou. At 2:50 AM, Little Monster was wailing for his mum. He looked out the living room window, calling his mum to return. It continued upstairs and repeated downstairs. Finally quieted down after twenty minutes. I continued to sleep on the couch. At 6:25 am, the doorbell rang. The neighbour was at the front door waiting to pick Big Monster to school! The best thing was, he was still asleep. Told her to proceed, else the rest would be late too. Mum didn't wake up too cause she only slept after the Little Monster episode. Mum quickly got him ready and we jumped into the car to get him to school on time. Luckily we made it by 7:00 AM. Things have changed so much now. Schools actually look like prisons. Grills all around and guards at every entrance. Headed home after that. Phew! By evening time, I was already kinda pooped. Wanted to go paktor with KH but my plans kinda got scuttled. My boss call

Chatting Le Chatelier

Dragged the kids to church on Sunday, but mum didn't want to use the new 'Quiet Room'. As expected, they made a ruckus at some point during mass, either wailing for food or snatching things from each other. Many parents don't seem keen on using it, preferring to have unrealistic optimism about their children's behaviour. Can't blame the priests for being a bit frustrated that after spending money on the thing, people refuse to use it. Soon they might start issuing 'banishments'. That Sunday marked the start of Holy Week, i.e. Palm Sunday. The kids nearly poked their eyes out with the palm fronds. Yikes. The obvious choice for lunch was at Paradigm Mall. Even before I turned in to the underpass, Big Monster already knew where I was heading. "Paradigm Mall again?!" Kids these days. Sat down at Pasta Zanmai for some pasta, seafood cream soup, pizza and salad. Little Monster hungrily ate all that although he had two slices of banana cake in

Seeing Suzy

Sis and BIL was off to Korea for a business trip so the kids were in our care again. Early in the morning, they had already eaten some fried noodles that my mum prepared. And when we went out to have breakfast, they had their second round of wantan noodles. Also had lunch nearby. Shared some mixed rice and CKT. At around 2:00 pm, SK came over to fetch us to Kuchai Lama. KH had actually bought tickets to "Let's Rock: The Musical" over Groupon. The original plan was for me to bring my mum, and he would bring his mum ( quite a situation hor? ). But since mum suddenly had to babysit, I let mum go with a friend instead. It was a musical based on the famous 80s band "The Winners". Never noticed that there was a Mega Star Arena beside the Kuchai Lama KFC. Turns out it houses the South Gate Church as well. Quite hidden. After dropping mum, SK and I went to KFC to tapau lunch. Little Monster fell asleep on the back seat cushion, so we drove home. The kid got up before

CNY II: Babysitting in Bagan Sungai Burung

Image
This year, mum decided not to visit relatives in Teluk Intan. Instead, we made our way to Bagan Sungai Burung to meet her nephews. Years and year ago, her eldest sister married into the small fishing village and spent a good part of her life there. Some years back, she was diagnosed with stage four liver cancer and passed away. Due to some drama in the family, several of her daughter-in-laws skipped town ( they were Chinese diaspora from Indonesia ), leaving the family without any women around the house. Kinda descended into 'chaos' in my opinion, but we all have different standards for that. Left home at about 10:00 am and used the new LATAR highway to get there. I expected less cars on the road, but PLUS was quite busy and the roads in and out of Kuala Selangor wasn't smooth. Impressed by the level of development in Kuala Selangor. It has GIANT, TESCO, a standalone McDonald's, Old Town Kopitiam and even bubble tea joints. Not bad at all. Bagan Sungai Burung has also

Paradigm Party

Image
Once again, the whole tribe followed mum and I to Sunday mass. And you get no points for guessing that we had lunch at Paradigm Mall. RHB had some kind of road show there with a giant monopoly sort of game to attract kids ( and ultimately their parents of course ). Just with a roll of the dice, you can get freebies. Of course the kids were interested with the balloon animals that the sullen clowns were making. Big Monster asked for a machine gun while Little Monster got a teddy bear. Big Monster had a hankering for chicken, so we ate at Nando's ( A tip on Foursquare made me laugh: "Senyumlah sikit..." ). I made the mistake of ordering mild instead of lemon & herbs. That made feeding time with the kids quite challenging. Little Monster kept complaining that the food was spicy and wailed a lot. Practically fat lan char . His mum calmed him down and he eventually fell asleep without eating much. Luckily Big Monster was more tolerant since we ordered his favourite chip

Monster-sitting II: Mall Rats

Teriyaki Chicken Pasta with Hot Spring Egg , swiped from williamnyk on Flickr. The kids were still with mum and I on Sunday, so they followed us to church. To avoid minimal fuss and disturbance to the mass, mum packed along several 'distractions' for the kids. We brought Milo, bread, cheese rings, toy cars and other stuff to keep them occupied. Still, it was a challenge to keep them still and quiet. In the future, the parish priest would surely push for sound-proof kiddy rooms. Sick of Paradigm Mall already, so for lunch I decided on Tropicana City Mall. Ate at Pasta Zanmai as the menu had rice, noodles and pizza that was agreeable for the kids. The teriyaki chicken pasta, hotate pizza and tomato seafood omu garlic rice. I settled the elder while mum fed the little monster. Both couldn't sit still during meal. Had to keep the 'dangerous' and fragile items from the baby. The hot teapot pun nak main . After the feeding frenzy, the whole booth was showered with

Monster-sitting I: Crabby Dinner

ChocoCake , swiped from williamnyk on Flickr. In a bid to get more familiar with Malaysia's corporate taxation, my sister and BIL went for a weekend course on the subject. Goes without saying that mum and I had to do some monster-sitting that weekend. As early as 8:30am, my mum had gone over to my sister's place. On the other hand, I tried sleeping in a bit, but couldn't. Did some exercise routines and freshened up for breakfast with SK. Nothing special, just wantan noodles at my favourite neighbourhood shop. Tapau -ed a packet for mum as well. When I got to my sister's place, the kids were already up and about, tearing up the house. Told Little Monster that we were going out and his eyes immediately lit up. He drunkenly dashed to the shoe cabinet to get his shoes. Mum wanted to buy 4D and do some banking, while I had an overdue appointment with my hairstylist. The elder monster had his hair cut too although it was only a week since his last cut. During the whole time

Monster's Day Out

Cheerful Interior , swiped from williamnyk on Flickr. When I woke up on Sunday morning, I found my little nephew to be quite cheerful. No manja -pot-ness. Mum said that he woke up at 7:30am. Dressed him up for church. The whole time, he did not wail, but he did fidget a whole lot. At one point, had to settle him down by feeding him half a croissant. Lunch was at Purple Cane Tea Restaurant , Paradigm Mall with SK and her granny. The toddler was super happy at the mall. Brought him to see some bunnies at the pet shop and I had drag him away. The kid refused to let me hold his hand. And when he walked, it was like a finale scene from "The Drunken Master". Kept falling down and bumping into things. At the restaurant, we tried some new dishes, namely yam chicken and vegetable rolls. This time round, I remembered to pay with my HSBC credt card to enjoy the 15% off. Ever since I got my Alliance Cash Back, I only use HSBC at the petrol station. Not many promotions at outlets that I

Housesitting

Image
Laundry Day , swiped from williamnyk on Flickr. My sister and BIL left for Guangzhou on Thursday morning for a short business trip. So mum and I were left with the responsibility to babysit and housesit. To make things easier, I stayed over too. On Thursday night, packed some clothes and toiletries, checked the snail mail, collected the laundry, watered the plants and set the lights before going over. Not too worried about forgetting anything as its only a 3 minute drive away. The guest room was quite comfortable and the attached bathroom came with a rain shower. Huhu. Would love to shower with KH in there. Didn't notice my sister leaving the house at 2:00am to catch her flight. In the morning, had to prod my nephew out of bed. The fella was quite zombified even while brushing his teeth. The little one on the other hand was far from zombified. He was wailing and perpetually stuck to mmy mum. Even declined my offer of a chicken floss bun. Very unlike him. Mum sent the elder to pre-
