Susahnya Shopping

The end of the January marked my 8th year with KH, so I was determined to get him something special. Woke up bright and early, had my breakfast and headed out to Orchard for some inspiration. I walked from ION to Isetan to Takashimaya to Robinsons to Sommerset 313. No luck. Didn't see anything that fit into wonderful and affordable. Lol. Shopping in Orchard is not for the faint-hearted. Looked for lunch at Taka's Food Village. Saw 1A Currypuffs and immediately went for it. Chose an uncommon variety-- chilli crab. Find the skin so much better than Old Chang Kee. Supplemented with char siew bao and a pan-fried meat bao from one of the seasonal stalls and that was it. Sat at one of the benches and read "Strange Tales from China" while I munched away on the hot snacks. Before I left, there was another must-eat that I had to revisit-- Rive Gauche Patisserie . Years ago, KH bought me a slice of Guanaja from there. But my eyes caught sight of a more beautiful option-- P

2015's Virgin Singapore Trip

Note: Believe it or not, there are no food pics in this post because all the photos were so bad! On my first day in Singapore for 2015, I arranged a dinner date with Finnegan. Such a coincidence that he was in town for some business. He asked me about food options but I kinda drew a blank. In the end, I remembered a recommendation from my brother about a messy burger at Orchid Hotel, so I looked it up. The joint was called Two Blur Guys . Perfect location cause my office was in the vicinity and Finnegan was hoped up nearby. Met up at Tanjung Pagar MRT and found the place with little fuss. Finnegan looked well, but a little bit thinner from the last I saw him before Christmas season. He assured me that he was well, but just worrying a bit more. When an investor worries ( I'm guessing it's about money! ) I guess 2015 will not be such a smooth year. The signature dish at that burger joint is the pulled pork burger which unfortunately was sold out by dinner time. Picked an altern

Restaurant Celebrities: Dolce Tokyo Darren

Realized that I forgot to post about Dolce Tokyo Darren  from my last Singapore trip. Not a super cutie, but very pok pok chui if you like the student look. Only in Singapore do you get waiters wearing Hollister. Maybe they work part time just to buy a few expensive T-shirts. Scroll up and down fast enough and you get an animation of him looking at his watch. LOL.

SIN Din Din

With 2014 coming to a close ( yes, yes, I am aware it's already past the first quarter of 2015... ), both Nic and Tater made dinner plans with me during my last trip to Singapore for the year. Starting from the 19th of December, I cleared 8 days of leave, effectively giving me a fortnight-long rest period. Met Nic and POD first at Kok Sen Restaurant after work. Took a short walk from Cecil St. to Keong Saik Rd. Passed several familiar gay lou landmarks like DYMK and Taboo. Kinda weird seeing them in the daylight. Feels quite different. Found the place with little fuss. It was actually just opposite Taratata Bistrot , the horrible French place. Kok Sen was pretty full at 6:15 PM which was a good sign. Nic was in his post-work cranky and hungry phase, so he ordered all the favourites in jiffy. His choices were spot-on. The Big Prawn Bihun was in a tomyum -like soup with more than 6 large prawns. The other special was the deep-fried frogs. So rare for me to have frogs in a dry di

SEA Fish

Sunday was a rare day out with my colleagues ( I normally ditch them to meet my gay friends ). Went to mass at St Joseph as usual and was rewarded with the presence of the Apostolic Nuncio to Singapore. Also heard about their upcoming Christmas concert ( special allowance for carols in the season of advent ) which is to be attended by 22 ambassadors and the President of Singapore. Hope The Risen Christ choir will rise to the occasion singing carols in 22 different foreign languages. Before heading into Sentosa, we had lunch at Albert Centre. A horribly hot, chaotic and stuffy lunch. Then a quick train ride to Harbour Front station brought us to Vivo City. Used the monorail to get into Sentosa. Arrived just in time to enter the SEA Aquarium as the tickets were for after 2:00 PM. Saw some kids leading a blindfolded girl into the aquarium as a birthday surprise of sorts. Perhaps they were gonna feed her to the sharks. For some reason, there was an Admiral Cheng Ho exhibition there

Sa-Tater-Day

On my next trip to Singapore, my brother invited me to dinner. Italian this time, his all time favourite. Dined at Trattoria Nonna Lina on Cantonment Road. The restaurant is named after the owner's Grandmother, Lina. Great food. Loved the spicy crab penne and the tiramisu is a must-have. My brother likes to gauge the quality of an Italian restaurant by ordering the panna cotta. Their rendition of that classic dessert passed with flying colours. Do give the restaurant a try when you're in that neck of the woods. As I was getting ready to go out for a mall crawl on Saturday, I wished Tater good morning. Told him I planned to check out the Christmas decorations around City Hall. As luck would have it, he was free to join since his lunch date was cancelled. Following KH's suggestion, I went to Raffles City first. Not much to see except some giant Christmas baubles. Tater was oozing patience following me on my aimless photography session ( ended up with nothing much to s

KH Wedding Trip III: Hi Baby, Bye Baby

Image
Slept in on Sunday morning because I had already attended sunset mass the evening before. More time to snuggle and kiss in bed, our hands greedily going for each others skin. At about 10:30 AM, we went out hunting for food. Settled for a charsiew bun from the MRT station. Did a second round of Christmas shopping at Kino and BHG and we still weren't done. Had a lunch date with Eunice and family ( who happened to be having a staycation at Intercontinental Hotel to celebrate the birthday of the two most important men in her life, her son and hubby ), MoonlightPiggy and her colleague at Ma Maison . Eunice's baby is getting cuter. Quick to smile and quite the attention whore. Passed him around the table like a basket of bread. I was satisfied with the spicy mentaiko spaghetti that KH ordered. Good taste and had some wok qi . Eunice didn't join us for post-lunch coffee at Toast Box as her son had his 'drink' plans too. Went to Bras Basah Complex after that to lo
