Slow Life Hokkaido 0: Getting There

Image
It's never easy task planning a family trip especially when my sister has her kids to consider, my brother is working in Singapore, and I have my own work commitments. Our last trip together was in 2012 to Hong Kong. In order to make things work, my sister took the lead and declared that she would be ditching her kids and hubby. Just the four of us. That made travel arrangements a lot easier. Secured our tickets three months before our flight period in late May. Another summer in Hokkaido for me, which was low season ( cheaper flights, cheaper lodging ). Temperatures are still generally pleasant, but flowers aren't in full bloom yet. On the day of departure, my brother flew in from Singapore and he practically camped at KLIA2 for half a day ( since he was there early, he helped me collect the TravelRecommends WiFi hotspot ). Mum, Sis and I took a cab from home after dinner. I was hoping for my usual cab driver's Estima, but for some reason, he sent his brother instead a

Kensei

Image
Been a long time since I wrote about Japanese GV actors. There's this one guy called Kensei (for COAT ) who looks really cute in my opinion. Has an angular face with cute eyes. Also a sunny smile with a gap tooth, though it's rare. And he has a nice physique ( nice pecs, abs, thighs, not overly-developed ) that is coupled with a tanned complexion ( I don't need my boys to be tanned, but I'm sure many out there like that kinda thing ). Very sporty. Looks great in Speedos and track suits. Really can carry off the athlete look. Perfect with the exception of his package-- not so well-endowed compared to his peers in the industry. I'm not a size queen, so I don't mind. Overall, a handsome fella. On his 'acting skills', he's not exactly expressive ( think Keanu Reeves ), but of course I can overlook that. One of the titles puts his statistics as 188 cm, 78 kg, and 18 years old. Not too sure about the age. Think that's fabricated. I've seen h

Osaka's Bounty

Image
While we were sweating it out in KL, SK was freezing her ass off in Osaka and Shirakawa-go. As it is her custom, she arrived back in Malaysia bearing a lot of local products from Japan. Most impressive was the collection of fruits-- Kyoho grapes ( King! ), Muscat grapes ( Queen! ), red apple, yellow apple and peach. Just the grapes were around MYR100 a bunch. She also bought a lot of snacks but my favourite was the sake Kait-Kat. Love the aroma. That woman can even come back with a bowl of unagi rice and katsu sandwich in her hand carry luggage. She really knows how to bring the experience of Japan with her.  ありがとうございました !

High on Hokkaido IX: Chitose Conclusion

Image
We had a long drive ahead of us. KH and I split the 300KM drive to Chitose . The expressway was quite boring with no big rest stops. Mostly just toilets and a vending machine. Pushed on and arrived at Mitsui Outlet Park , Kitahorishima at about 2:00PM. Our Mitsui Premium Outlet in Sepang has a similar design, but the selection of brands is much better in Hokkaido. Although shopping was high on the list, eating lunch was more important. The food court offered a good selection of lunch options. Miso ramen is popular in the Sapporo region, so KH tried that. I for one found it to be overpowered by garlic oil. I chose Hokkaido pork don with leek. What I ate was pretty close to what Senya serves in KL. Kudos to Senya. Found the best bargains at Rockport and Banana Republic. Surprisingly, they also have a supermarket there selling fruits and vegetables. When we left MOP, our hands were full of shopping bags. Been trying to find SK's Albion products for two weeks but to no av

High on Hokkaido VIII: The Star of Hakodate

Early in the morning, we got dressed to pay a visit to the Fish Wholesale Market . It was not a fun day to be out. Wet and windy. Much more windy than wet really. When the angle was right, we felt 'helped along'. At pedestrian crossings, we held on to the lamp posts to avoid being blown onto the road. Crazy. Along the way, we saw tsunami warning signboards marking all tall buildings that have been designated at tsunami shelters. Hotel Chocolat was one of them. The Fish Wholesale Market is something like Kuromon Market in Osaka, but bigger and less centralized. From one glance, one can tell the King Crab is king in Hakodate . Nearly every shop sells it. Other specialties are live squid ( fish your own ) and scallops. Filled our high cholesterol breakfast quota with grilled giant scallop, boiled hairy crab and grilled King crab legs. My favourite was the boiled hairy crab. They boil the whole thing in salt water and serve it to you whole with a pair of kitchen shears. T
