Night Before Natal

In 2017, Christmas Eve fell on a Sunday. Normally, mum and I would attend Christmas vigil mass, but by doing that, we couldn't fulfill the regular Sunday mass obligation. For Catholics, attending the sunset mass is equivalent to attending the mass for the following day. So on Christmas eve, we attended our usual Mandarin mass at 11:15 AM, and would attend the same slot on Christmas morning to fulfill Christmas obligation. Technicalities, technicalities. Ventured to One Utama after church and boy, getting parking was quite a huge challenge. Ended up parking at an open air car park. Even that was difficult to navigate because the roads were so narrow due to inconsiderate parking. We found parking at the far end... Since it was Christmas, I decided on a Western lunch at ANTE . Mum and I shared a huge pork shoulder and a polenta. Nearly overdosed. The shopping mall's creative team came up with a Christmas in the clouds theme complete with a giant crescent moon, which in my

Christmas at Pavilion 2017

Every year I would bring mum to admire the Christmas decorations at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. Since the Monsters were not with us, we went there right after Sunday mass. Makes things much easier not having two chase after those two kids in a crowded mall. One more week till Christmas, but the the crowds were already heavy at Bukit Bintang. Parking at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur was already full, and the traffic police made road diversions. Thankfully I could still get to the Menara Standard Chartered parking. We did a whole lot of camwhoring after lunch at Fuji Sushi ( it was already 2:30 PM! ). It was my first time at the Japanese restaurant. Not bad, and they have 10% off for Parkson Card members. Although we were there the whole afternoon, we didn't much of anything at all. Wanted to sit down at KAKIGŌRI but there were no tables available. One table at a hidden corner near the escalator was occupied by two kids ( one in a pram ). Both were obviously below 5 years old. I asked

Decorating Your Christmas Kid

Image
Whenever I go to Atria Shopping Gallery, mum and I usually end up spending some time watching events that happen at the center court. At the final Sunday of December, they had a kids Christmas pageant that saw the participation of more than fifty kids of various ages. We were impressed by the enthusiasm of their parents piling up all sorts of Christmas baubles on their children ( or even turning their child into a giant bauble ). Extra effort by their parents included handmade props and even wiring their kids with Christmas lights. Some were practically transformed into walking Christmas trees. Other kids were made to look like a toadstool, a gingerbread house, a giant Christmas bauble, and a Christmas present. The more conventional parents dressed their children up as Christmas princesses, angels and elves. One little girl of five impressed me with her showmanship. She actually had a rehearsed entrance and routine routine. And she knew how to work the crowd, pose, and move fro

Christmas in Cheras

I did not wake up bright and early on Christmas morning. Just as I hit the send button on What's App asking my sister whether the kids had woken up, I heard a commotion downstairs. No mistaking it-- it was The Tribe. My sister had moved all the presents to my place. And it was a lot of presents. Combined with presents from SK and I, it was truly a formidable heap! The excitement and anticipation from the kids was palpable. However, they had to wait a little while longer. All of us donned our customized Christmas T-shirts and took a group photo first. Before we began, I brought out a laundry basket to contain all the discarded gift wrapping. The kids went through their presents like locusts. They got toys, shoes, clothes, bags, and water tumblers. Guess they were on Santa's Good list else they would have received white envelopes filled with cash from Sump'n Claus. Got some pretty nice stuff for Christmas this year: 1. Black Herschel laptop bag from The Tribe. 2. Leg

Another Swarovski Christmas

Image
Unexpectedly, my sister turned up at our doorstep on the morning of Christmas eve. Naturally, the kids were thrilled to see her. We had a day out in Bukit Bintang ahead of us. First stop was Pavilion Kuala Lumpur to look at the Christmas decorations. Like past years, there was a huge tree out front. The only difference was that they had a train that traveled around the tree. In my opinion, its quite a nuisance to have that when so many people mill at the entrance. Swarovski returned as the main sponsors for the center atrium's Christmas decorations, but I wasn't very impressed by it. This time round, the center atrium is dominated by a castle and a crystal carousel. In the overall theme, it's not very attention-grabbing. Mum shopped while I kept the kids in check. The typical running around, and crawling in and out of clothes racks. Difficult to shop in peace with kids around. All that running around helped the kids build up an appetite. By noon, they were asking for foo

Upside Down Christmas

Image
With the Klang Valley saturated with malls, mall management offices try their best to come up with the most creative Christmas decorations within their budgets. Atria Shopping Gallery tries to be different by turning Christmas on its head-- using the Grinch instead of Santa Claus  upside-down Christmas trees. In my opinion, like that lah . Haha. Guess we've seen it all. For the first time, mum and I ate at the food floor. Many choices actually, but not many customers. We ate at Tokyo Ramen where we shared a bowl of the Tonkotsu King-- 1.5 noodles portion of noodles with charsiu , chicken charsiu , whole  ajitama , vegetables, seaweed sheet and bamboo shoots. Definitely enough for two. Feel free to pile on the hot sauces and garlic to give the ramen an extra kick. In the late afternoon, stopped by at New Chapter for coffee and waffles ( finish up the cash vouchers from the IMU Chariofare ). Tried the Midori which is a green tea waffle with tangerines. Didn't really

Insure My Tummy

Breakfast was at Good Taste , Bukit Jalil together with the Tribe. It's definitely not the best tasting wantan noodles around, but the kids like it. And they love the toast. Mum and I went to the Gardens Mall after breakfast to admire the Christmas decorations. Once again, the Gardens Mall did a very classy job with luxurious table settings, wrought-iron grills, and even a horse carriage. For the first time, had lunch at Olive Garden in Midvalley Megamall. Like Red Lobster, Olive Garden is also operated by Secret Recipe in Malaysia. One look at the menu and I noticed the higher than average prices. Little did I know that it was to factor in free flow of bread and soup. Anyway, mum and I shared a ciopinno . The portion was quite large and satisfying. In the evening, I attended a dinner appointment with KH. His AIA insurance agent ( let's call him Don ) invited him for a home-cooked meal at his condominium in  Seri Kembangan. Not only us, but Apollo and QueerRanter
