Art and Lights

Image
Once in a while, my paktor sessions with KH will drift to something arty. In January 2024 ( don't groan ), we explored five floors of Asian art at UR-MU @ Bukit Bintang ( short for Urban Museum ). Each floor had a theme, but I won't bore you with all that. Just enjoy the curated pieces that I handpicked for you.  Dinner was with SK and CK at ZK Restaurant , an old school Chinese stir-fried joint with some uncommon dishes like mixed seafood in pumpkin. Also had tong sui after that at Restoran Ruby , another blast from the past. The owner takes the time to create tong sui art very much like latte art. I really don't care for it. I want my tong sui hot, not lukewarm. Did we go home after that? No. Last stop for the night was Desa Park City to look at the year end light show that has somehow become a new year light show. The whole landscape was transformed with lights running through the fields, and plenty of Christmas trees. Loud and cheery Christmas carols accompanied the...

Pasar Celebrities: Adidas Adrian

Netizens say that half-rim glasses, face mask, and an oversized T makes a man more attractive. Do you think that illusion is true for Adidas Adrian who was spotted at the OUG morning market?

New Year Art

Image
Finally, it's 2024 at Will.I.Am! On the first day of 2024, Sam ( KH's art lecturer friend ) invited us to participate in the Alfa University College New Year Art Jam event. For 14 years running Alfa University College had invited people from all walks of life to create folk art revolving around the Chinese zodiac. In the afternoon, we went up to Alfa University College at SS15. A bunch of people were already there huddled in the only room with air-conditioning switched on. Before we officially started, Sam gave a briefing on the project, and what we should do. The project is actually a composite mural made up of many A3 sheets. The idea is to get many different individuals to complete each sheet with their own style and creativity. Congruency is not required at all. Mum, Big Monster, KH and I worked on our sheets with various degrees of speed. Art supplies were provided, and in addition to the usual paints and inks, we also worked with mixed media like red packets and bits of q...

December Dinners 2023 Pt 2

Image
Saturdays were usually reserved for cafe-hopping with KH. He brought me to Yasumi , a cafe that didn't look like a cafe. Even the signboard was non-existent, except for a narrow plank at the entrance scrawled with artliner. The past life of that shoplot was retained as here were glass display cabinets that reminded me of stationery shop from my childhood. And the white-tiled bathroom was so very reminiscent of what I grew up with, down to the water tub and the hole in the wall that allowed for two rooms to be lit at the same time.  Later in the afternoon, we had massage sessions at Relax Two Brickfields which was operated by the blind. Would have enjoyed the massage more if the masseuse didn't use that massage stick on my feet. Really hate that. Lots of interesting and old buildings near the massage place. The Sree Veera Hanuman Temple is an ornate place of workship dedicated to the Hindu monkey god and it even features a pair of Sun Wu Kong statues flanking the entrance.  ...

December Dinners 2023 Pt 1

December was a month of meet-ups. Apollo topped the list with two dinners, one for an omakase dinner at Hisho , and another later in the month to celebrate an early Christmas. I wasn't particularly impressed with the Japanese food, but I was really stuffed at the end of the course. The Christmas dinner was a home party to jointly celebrate the Winter Solstice as well. Fortunate enough to have Mei join us. The kids had a great time making tang yuan , while the adults sipped on sweet wine, and nibbled on loaded fruitcake. In the run up to Christmas, I managed to meet up with Cutiepie at the Gardens Mall. And as luck would have it, reconnected with a Form Six classmate whom I had not seen since finishing STPM. Out of the blue, I also had coffee with an ex-subordinate of mine because he wanted some career advice. Then there was another Japanese dinner with Janvier and his hubby. With Janvier, its always more of a drinking session. Breezed through the first half, stay tuned for the seco...

Mall Celebrities: Gift Garret

Image
It's the season of giving in my screwed up and backlogged blogging timeline. So here's another ah boy. Gift Garret was spotted at Paradigm Mall PJ moonlighting at the Christmas gift wrapping station. Would you like him gift-wrapped?

Cafe Celebrities: TOGO or Not to Go?

Image
Charcoal rose latte with a kouign amman seems like a good combination for tea time, but that wasn't the case at TOGO Bukit Jalil. The chewy pastry and bland coffee was only bearable due to the appearance of twinky couple of ah boys ( as SimonLover would so affectionately call them ) who busied themselves taking photos the whole time I was there. I wonder if they are as diligent taking photos in the bedroom.

Pasar Celebrities: Pasar Phyo

Image
Pasar Phyo is a hunky migrant worker who works at OUG Morning Market . He is often spotted in muscle tees to better show off his guns. Those big biceps are really an asset when it comes to hauling heavy baskets of fresh produce! Try to look for him inside the central building. Perhaps he'll give you a discount for eggplants.

Again Anson

In less than 2 weeks, I was back in Teluk Intan again, this time round to settle some legal issues. Something leftover from my father's time. A messy affair where my late father's name was on the land deed of the ancestral home. Two other names were on the land deed, and my late father was just a proxy. After his death, the ownership transferred to my mother. Finally after decades, someone in the family decided to buy the land, and everyone agreed to sell ( there was some drama before this ). Since everything was in motion, I quickly fetched mum to Teluk Intan to settle the legalities. Definitely don't want things to drag to my generation. Arrived in Teluk Intan bright and early. We were so early, that we had time to have a bowl of curry noodles before the lawyer firm opened. The signing of the sales and purchase agreement was done in a jiffy.  With the main objective achieved, we went to meet my aunt ( my late father's sister-in-law ) so that she could bring us to the ...
