KLIA2 Fail

Image
Usually, I fly out of Changi on the 1910 Air Asia flight. That day, the flight was delayed for 45 minutes due to inclement weather around KLIA2. Waited on the tarmac for control tower clearance. Outside the cockpit, the flight attendants were busying themselves trying to find stowage for a stray bag. Everything had been filled up. In the end, they just left it outside. Think it was because too many Indian nationals boarded that evening and they all bought a whole lot of Canadian Club! When we arrived at KLIA2, it had stopped raining. More bad news ensued. The plane docked at the furthest gate and even by the time I got to the baggage claim, my luggage wasn't there yet. Not a surprise but what was REALLY surprising was the fact that I saw 7 other flights queued at the same belt. Had to wait for luggage from Taipei, Bandar Seri Begawan and Surabaya to clear before it was our turn. Took more than an hour with passengers from the multiple flights crowding at the same belt. Chaos. You

Deepavali... 2014!

Image
Like years past, I did not get any open house invitations for Deepavali and never bothered with the MIC functions, so the public holiday was spent shopping instead. Headed out quite early to One Utama, picking up KH along the way ( bonding session? ). Plenty of parking since we arrived so early and I guess many people took leave to balik kampung . Typical decorations of kolam at the mall, but this year they had a fat, squat and sequined peacock to liven things up. LOL. We watched a Korean movie called "Wedding Palace" , about a guy who has to get married before 30 or he'd die from an ancient curse. No subtitles at all, but I think my mum understood the general plot with my feedback at the important plot twists. No worries about talking during the movie since there were only two other people in the hall. The main actor Brian Tee had the look of someone who could star in Peter Le's "The Asiancy". Ate lunch at Ichiro Sushi , a hidden restaurant in Isetan

KL, Kari, KH, Kawan

As usual, Saturday was a marketing day for me. There was a BEC Gathering that night, so mum wanted to buy some ingredients for the potluck. My favourite noodles stall was closed so we tried a stall that we had never tried before. Airy and spacious, and the curry noodles were quite good too. Lunch we had home. Packed some Anson CCF from a factory at Jalan Hujan Rahmat. Surprisingly, it looked authentic, but taste wise it was too sweet and not quite as fragrant. In the afternoon, KH came a-calling. With no place better to go, we had drinks at Ocean Bubble House . First time there since they moved to the adjacent shop lot. Some additions to the menu, most obvious was the brewed coffee section. The place is now more 'open' with less opportunity for us to be a little naughty. Or perhaps we should just be openly naughty Haha. In the evening, I had rosary prayer session at a house in Jalan Badang. The area is just beside the highway, so getting there can be a little tricky if no

Surprise Singapore Sunday

Image
KH did some research and found a mass time that he was agreeable with. His requirements were specific. The church had to be nearby and the mass time not too early ( he needed his beauty sleep and morning skank ). The best candidate was the 10:00 am mass at St. Joseph's Church. I should thank him for it because they have a wonderful cathedral mass at that slot every Sunday. Not that St. Joseph's is a cathedral, just that the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd is closed for major restoration for two years. So they have it at a nearby church. The best thing about mass there is the Cathedral Choir of the Risen Christ, headed by Peter Low. According to Wiki, the choir has gone on numerous tours around the world, even singing for the Pope and his audience of 30,000 on June 5, 1985 at Saint Peter's Square in the Vatican City. Every Sunday morning, there would be a procession into the church with a standard that was blessed by Pope Saint John Paul II. Think there are about forty of &

Surprise Singapore Saturday

After a good night's sleep, KH was ready for another round of skanking. But the exertion triggered his sneezing fits again. Ops. Pain after pleasure. We had a brunch date with Tater that day. Met up at Bugis before walking over to Symmetry at Jalan Kubor. Took a slow leisurely walk because KH was sneezing, my legs were tired from squatting (;P) and Tater had just finished a 32KM run that morning. As expected, the place was full, but they had an al fresco option for us. Much better actually, less claustrophobic. And since it was an end lot, they had a large patch of shade of to put several tables. No problems with the heat as they had fans at strategic locations and even a refreshment stand outside. Servers were also stationed outside, providing attentive and friendly service. To refill my emptied tank, I ordered the Symmetry Eggs Sur Le Plat, while KH went for the Ham Hock & Pancetta Steak. Food was quite good with pretty presentation. Even the biscuit that came with my lat

The Best Birthday Gift

KH arrived in Singapore around 3:30 pm on Friday. While waiting for me to get off work, he went to loiter with POD at Kembangan. I joined them there after work ( sweet KH kissed me at the door ) and by that time Nic had also got off work. As usual, he was hungry, cranky and tired. LOL. Needed to get him to dinner STAT! Went to the same restaurant that they brought me a few weeks back. Food was still good. Although I had sam lou hor fun for lunch at Amoy Food Centre, having it again for dinner was welcome! Its just that good. Other stuff that POD ordered was ku lou yuk , butter calamari ( not something common but quite nice ), XO Fish Meat Bihun and lastly prawn paste deep fried chicken ( another item I've not seen in KL ). Repeating our steps, we had gelato at Casa Italia , I12 Mall again. But this time round, we pestered Suzy to make an appearance. Our repeated calls and my puppy dog request of "cause it's my birthhhhhdayyyy". She finally made an appearance at Toa

Birthday Brother & Surprise Singapore

Image
On my birthday, my brother treated me to dinner at Wild Rocket . A hidden little gem at Hangout Hotel, Upper Wilkie Road, right next to Mount Emily Park. Met my brother at Bugis MRT and we walked together to the place. As we walked, I can't help but notice many familiar landmarks along the way. It was actually quite near my hotel, but one had to go uphill and traverse a long flight of dark stairs before arriving at the place. When we got there, our backs were wet from perspiration! According to my brother, the place just recently reopened after an 8-month hiatus. They had planned to move to some where else more accessible, but their landlord lowered the rent. And so the place was 'reborn' with a lot of wood accents. Love the geometric, interlocking pieces of wood framing the whole side of the restaurant. I had did all my homework on Foursquare and HungryGoWhere and had a pretty good idea of what to order. However, I should have known that they would revamp the menu too. L

Lapse II: Early Birthday & New Archbishop

Image
I had a birthday do at my sister's place since I couldn't decide on a restaurant. Had it on the 5th, four days before the actual date. Mum cooked a big dinner, with special contributions from my sister, SK and Apollo. Sis made a huge pan of seafood paella yang tahap dewa . The surface was so thick with seafood that one couldn't see the rice. SK recently returned from Vietnam, so she made rice paper rolls with grilled pork neck. Yum! Apollo made dessert, which was an impressive Oreo cheesecake. Love the crust! And I had a surprise guest for the dinner too-- Cutipie and her darling son Cam. Of course KH was there too and he brought a big apricot butter cake from Suanson . A very traditional choice of cake. :P. Had a merry dinner especially since I whipped up a large jug of Mojito. Ended the night with an Instax photo shoot, so everyone had a souvenir from the event. Hari Raya Haji marked the episcopal ordination of Most Rev. Julian Leow, the Archbishop of Kua
