Early V

Of late, KH and I never had much time together due to busy schedules. Whatever the case, one must always make time for each other. Used Valentine's Day as an excuse for dinner at  Tanzini . I got off work pretty early, so I roamed around Avenue K. When I had exhausted all the outlets, I slowly walked over to G Tower to continue waiting. I nearly fell asleep on the sofa at the lobby. Haha. Such the epitome of a patient hubby. Impressed? :P. Finally at 8:25 PM, we were shown to our table. No hangri-ness that night because I was pretty well-fed in the afternoon. My colleagues had organized a pre-CNY lou sang lunch at Restoran Makanan Laut Zhen Liew Siang , a popular haunt for working adults in the KL area. If you know the place, you'd be no stranger to their oily and 'super-flavourful' signature dishes. After stepping out of the elevator on the 28th floor, we were greeted by a friendly waiter who asked whether we had a reservation. Luckily, they had a table for a

Many do not realize that the actual start of a Chinese zodiac year is 立春 ( lap chun / lì chūn ). The technical start of spring. For the year of the Dog, it fell on the 4th of February. Back in ancient times, it was a time to start farming. But so what right? The fact that one can balance eggs upright is a way cooler fact about 立春. I gave it a try, but I didn't manage to do it on the floor of my living room. Not sure if doing it on the carpet is considered cheating though. I missed the timing perhaps. Can try it again during the Dragon Boat Festival. P.S.: Wonder if can do it with my teloq ? XD

Gossip At Grub

Image
Once it hit February, the Chinese started going nuts and thronged the OUG morning market. The crowd had started to hit its peak. Additional seasonal human traffic caused my favourite wantan noodles stall to run out of char siew ! Hebat ! I had to settle for wantan . SimonLover organized a dinner that night since HornyBF ( SimonLover's Instagram hubby ) was in town ( Khatijah and ForIHaveSinned also joined us ). The venue was Grub by Ahong at Section 17. Been ages since I went to that part of Section 17. Nearby where I parked my car was a field. And what caught my eye was several migrant workers who were playing cricket there. Such a rare sight in Malaysia. Grub is positioned as a no-frills restaurant. It's mostly self-service, where you make your order, and get all the cutlery yourself. All the waiters are migrant workers who can't communicate very well. Just pray that they bring the correct order to your table. Only the chef is local-- Ahong, the 'friendly fat m

Overdose of Ribs and Getting Drunk on Dessert

CNY was just a couple of weeks away, so I made good use of the day off to get a haircut. Finally, my stylist decided that I no longer need a hair style that 'lengthens' because I had rediscovered a sharper face shape. Before heading home, I bought some CNY decorations at Parkson. Mum cooked lunch, a simple soup of tung ho ( some people call it roach veggie due to the taste ) with minced pork, and some fried pomfret. The rest of the afternoon was spent doing spring cleaning and other preparations for the coming festivities. Janvier met KH and I for dinner that night. Since his office was in PJ, he didn't get to enjoy the Hari Wilayah day off. At least we chose a location that was close to him-- Topshelf at TTDI. Although he was swamped with work, it was great that he found the time to meet us. The pork ribs that I ordered was super huge ( French cuisine? ). Nearly OD-ed. I had to outsource my ribs to Janvier and KH. Dinner was on us since it was Janvier's birth

Three pairs of Private Structure underwear. All the same size-- Small. Should I say "one size fits all"? P.S.: Please participate in my long running underwear survey *HERE* .

Imitating Imelda

Didn't have anything planned for Thaipusam, so I decided to assemble the Lego piggy bank that SK bought for me from Denmark. It didn't take long for me to finish. I don't think I will see much use from it other than a piece of decoration. SK came over in the afternoon, and we went to have chicken rice at Restoran Kong Sai , Taman Equine. My colleague raved about a shop near there that sold a big variety of CNY cookies at bargain prices, so we went to check it out. The stuff they sold was horrible. After a few samples, I did not want to torture myself anymore. No wonder buy 3, free 1. Other than those seasonal stuff, they sell a lot of kuih-muih which we couldn't resist trying. So pretty. Apollo posted about his shopping spree at a sports shoes warehouse sale at Citta Mall which caught our attention. Buzzed him for more information. Turns out that they were selling lotsa stuff at 70% off. New Balance shoes were MYR200 for two pairs. I needed some running sh

Marketing with MiniMe

With just a little over two weeks before CNY, the morning market at OUG had started to go into high gear. RELA personnel were deployed, and Jalan Hujan Rahmat 2 was closed, allowing for temporary stalls to mushroom up all along the road ( most openly selling red crackers ). I wouldn't say that it's a buying frenzy, but people still come to buy what's necessary to prepare for the coming festivities. Everyone is trying to get a bang for their buck. Plenty of biscuits and nian gao  available, a clear indication of supply overshadowing demand. That day, I had a special breakfast appointment with KT and her MiniMe. MiniMe seemed a bit anti-social and was clinging to KT like a koala. It was better when she was distracted with a smartphone. SK was sick after her trip to Copenhagen, so we went to her GP at Bukit Serdang. After seeing the doctor, we went to Restoran Bukit Tinggi for some famous YTF. The shop makes a very delicate spherical tofu, that has a texture similar

Undicesimo Anniversario

Eleven years together with KH, doesn't feel like it. Been through so much together, and for sure there's more ahead of us. In a relationship, there's no real destination, it's a journey undertaken together. We marked the occasion with an Italian omakase dinner at Butler & Chef , Solaris Dutamas. The restaurant is located right beside Red Bean Bag ( I wonder if people still queue to eat here ). Besides us, there was only one other table occupied on that Saturday night. Both of us ordered the 7-course dinner which would have cost a pretty penny if not for the TableApp promotion. Here's what we had: Caprese salad. Beetroot bisque. Pan-fried salmon. Grilled giant river prawn. Grilled lamb with nai pak  ( an uncommon pairing ). Seafood spaghetti marinara ( a mountainous serving of pasta! ). Panna cotta. By the end of the meal, we nearly couldn't get out of our seats. Since we were the only customers left, Chef Mino, the owner and chef came out to

Tea, Thai, Then Thai

Image
For the first time, I saw a Ponggal celebration at my church. The presence of the Tamil-speaking community is finally being felt. Our Sunday outing that week was at The Gardens Mall. We ate at Purple Cane Tea Restaurant there since our usual branch at Paradigm Mall had closed down. Shared a plate of green curry noodles ( green curry too watery le ), burdock soup, and tomato omelette. Did the customary shopping, but it was more window shopping. When we got tired and thirsty, I brought mum to KAKIGŌRI for some shaved ice. Made a wrong choice to get the Chestnut Milk. Too milky and sweet. Should just stick to the matcha or hojicha offerings. One thing I hate about KAKIGŌRI is how they pile the ice high on a bowl with a super small base. When I carry the tray, I always worry that the whole thing will totter over. And when you start chipping into the mountain of ice, the risk of an avalanche is very real! In the evening, we tried out the new Thai restaurant in my neighbourhood -

LTS 2018

On the 13th of January, I was back at a large Nu Skin Success Together event called the Life Transforming Seminar at Putra World Trade Center (PWTC). I was there with KH to received some recognition for his hard work. I also managed to meet his boss at the event, who was currently on the TR90 programme. As usual, the atmosphere was super-charged with many ageLOC Superstars, performances, and sharing sessions. The Singapore team did an amazing job with their ageLOC into the future performance, where they envisioned that TR90 would become TR9, a Nu you in 9 seconds. Haha. They adopted a Japanese style of visual art where stage hands donned black Zentai suits to create visual effects ( e.g. Kabuki Kuroko ). Actually, Sharky was also at PWTC, working freelance for Malaysia Cyber Games, a gaming event. Unfortunately, we had no chance to meet.

Otherwise

Hidden in the SS4 residential area is a quaint place for coffee called Otherwise Cafe . It's neighbours are a Protestant church, a Buddhist society, and a design firm called Yipieyaya Studio. I suspect that it's related to the designers from next door. Don't expect a huge signboard, there's only a small logo out front. Just look out for a quaint looking place with vintage wooden chairs and lots of metal and rivets out front. I really wonder where the designers source for all the quaint stuff in there. Surprised to see a vintage diving helmet in the window display. The counter is made out of old railroad sleepers. Some of the chairs are the vintage folding chairs with red cushioning. The last I saw those was at Yan Keng Benevolent Dramatic Association in Petaling Street. At one corner, they have an old barber's chair with an antique gramophone and ship lanterns. If you like to sit cross-legged, you can also climb onto an antique metal bed frame that they transforme

When I first got my Almera, I scratched it at church against a pillar. That was the right side. So like a good Christian, I turned the other cheek, and scratched the left side as well. That happened against a wall at the wet market's multi-level car park. My heart sank when I heard the groaning of metal against concrete. Ugh. The damage was worse than the right side. Oh well. The body and paint work would cost a bomb so... I'll just let it be for now. As much as I tried to forget about the whole incident with the car, it still managed to make my Mee Kolok and  Laksa Sarawak lunch at Rumah Asap Tan 16 a little less fantastic. By dinner time, I was feeling much better and enjoying my Japanese meal at Uroko . It was SK's first time there and she was quite impressed by their Salmon Ball Salad and kushiyaki . Since Happy Mansion was nearby, we went there for some coffee and cake before calling it a night. Tried Good Blue Men and we weren't disappointed by
