Swallowing Seremban

Image
As someone who has lived in the Klang Valley for more than one and a half decades, it's pretty impossible not to notice the existence of Seremban. The capital city of the neighbouring state of Negeri Sembilan is just an hour away via the Seremban Highway. Even if one doesn't travel to Seremban, the Seremban Highway is an important traffic artery that many people use. For once, I actually made a trip to Seremban on a day trip organised by KH. On a rainy Malaysia Day, KH drove us ( mum, SK and I ) down to Seremban. During the one hour drive, it rained and rained but luckily it stopped by the time we reached the city. The first thing we noticed about Seremban was the traffic lights. Lots of waiting at junctions. Next was the high density of Taoist temples. Didn't realized how Cina Seremban is. We had a three-pronged strategy for our Seremban outing-- eat, eat, and eat. The destination we punched into Waze was the Pasar Besar Seremban, Seremban's main wet market. It&#

A Catholic Haj

My parish organized a local pilgrimage on Hari Raya Haji covering two neighbouring states, namely Negeri Seremban and Melaka. Woke up at an ungodly hour to be able to gather at church by 7:00 AM. Thankfully, I was feeling better. Once registration was completed, everyone was grouped according to their buses. The priest who led the pilgrimage made an opening prayer and we all started streaming into the four waiting buses. The start of the journey was wet with a little drizzle. In the bus, we were given our breakfast pack and as expected there was a praise and worship session. Didn't sing all the way to Church of St. John Vianney in Tampin . When I was last in Tampin, it was also for a pilgrimage . That was in 2009. The church looks different from what I remember it. The front of the church had been dramatically renovated and original chapel is no longer a kindergarten. Back then, it was Year for Priests. In 2016, the church is designated with a Holy Door of Mercy for the Jub

Hari ini dalam sejarah : 15 years ago, the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center were downed by terrorists. In 2016, I barfed out a bowl of pho ( too sweet for my liking ) from Lucky Quan , Kuchai Lama. I took ten steps out of the restaurant and ended up bent over the drain to empty the contents of my stomach. Breakfast and lunch was expelled together with the gusto of Regan from "The Exorcist". Static washed over my vision and I just rested there, catching my breath. According to my mother, I turned white as a sheet and sweated profusely. Don't worry about eating there, it wasn't the food. Immediately headed for the clinic and went home after that. Slept and slept and slept. Some time in the afternoon, KH came over to see how I was doing. That was very sweet of him. Made me forget my illness for a while. I had a church pilgrimage the next day, so I needed to get well fast!

Zombies & Qipaos

A zombie movie from Korea is as groundbreaking as kimchi from India. Watched it with KH after a huge lunch at Bru Cafe , Faber Towers. The calzone we ordered was big enough to feed two. On top of that, I ordered a mound of pasta topped with a cheese covered baked chicken thigh. If you're a fan of cheese wheel pastas, you can have that there too. " Train to Busan "  was surprisingly good. The premise is quite fresh, zombies on a train. Definitely better than snakes on an aircraft. Character development was present. It was fast-paced. There's some critique on society if you care to look for it. Funny moments properly planted. Eye candy provided by Gong Yoo ( unfortunately he didn't show any skin ). Perfect recipe for a likable movie. And so many memes appeared online since it coincided with major LRT breakdowns in the city. With the popularity of this movie, Korean beauty companies would undoubtedly roll out products to recreate that dazzling zombie complex

Drag Queens & Gay Games

Sunday afternoon was spent at Paradigm Mall again. But this time there was something extra-- International Chinese Han Couture Pageant . The perfect pageant for people who want to live out their fantasy of being a member of the ancient royal court. From what I saw, there were several concubines, an empress and an empress dowager. The emperor's look was quite a failure cause he didn't don a wig. The emcee was doing some role playing and he used 奴婢 instead of 奴才. Wonder if its a slip of the tongue or perhaps he is a sister. Look at the last group photo-- the guy on the far right looks kinda twinky. In the evening, KH and I attended the Straits Games 2016 closing dinner at One Seafood Restaurant . The dinner is an awards ceremony and farewell dinner all rolled into one. I did not see a single familiar face in the dinner. A totally different segment of the gay community. KH and I sat with a bunch of gay badminton enthusiasts. Heard that there even was a gay badminton enthu
