Midvalley Madness & Tangyuan Time

Image
Right after mass, I brought mum to Midvalley Megamall to look at the Christmas decorations. I wasn't daunted by the red lights on the parking board. I summarily ignore it and made for parking zone B. What a mistake that was. I wasn't prepared for the basement bedlam. Took me forty minutes to get a parking space after inching my way up and down for many iterations. Nearly went mad and I was still feeling a bit sick. But the Christmas decorations at The Gardens Mall was quite rewarding. Very colourful and oriental. Wonder if they will retain it up till Chinese New Year. Ate a light lunch at Hokkaido Ichiba . For winter solstice reunion 2015, mum wasn't in the mood to slave in the kitchen because for the whole month, she had been pulling her hair out taking of the monsters day and night. It's the same year in, year out because its the busy period for my BIL's business. So, she set a budget and asked me to organize a dinner for family and close friends. Dear KH

Distance

Note: A topic triggered by Nicky. I don't remember when I started having di s, but I think it was some time in 2008. For some reason, some people look up to me as their gor . I had a whole collection so to say. Not that I was collecting, but I somehow managed to get a following of sorts. First and foremost was Joe . He identified himself as the President of My Di Association. Then there was Kenzon who got me acquainted with Rich who was his boyfriend. There was also Chester and Jase. With Jase, there was a connection to KT my mei  and PluBoy. Did I leave anyone out? But I really wonder what that means to be someone's gor . How big of an did impact did we make in each other's lives? Did I dispense sagely advice? Was I their rock in a tumultuous sea of gay drama? Was I always there for them? Did they look to me for direction in life? Was I someone for them to manja  with? Or was it just a taken social connection just for the heck of it? Today, my  di s have all grown up

Kahwin Kajang

After attending the bride's side of the wedding, it was time to go for the groom's side. At 10:00 AM, mum, Little Monster and I made our way to my cousin's house in Semenyih. The forty minute drive brought me to an unfamiliar part of town. Paid three tolls. When I exited the last toll, we were greeted with palm oil plantations and the new township of Eco Hills. I was wondering if there was a petrol station there as I was running empty. But Waze told me that I had not arrived at my destination. Went deeper in to a place near Rinching. It was an older township. Had to make a detour because there were two roads with the same name in the area. WTF. Even the caterer got lost. The happy couple was estimated to arrive at about 1:00 PM from Karak, so I had two hours to kill. Spent most of the time making small talk with some of mum's relatives and fiddling on my phone. Mobile coverage there was spotty so we asked for the WiFi password. The password was made up of both the bri

VCR Repeat

Image
On Tuesday morning, KH and I went to VCR Cafe  again. Tried the smoke hamachi   for breakfast. Downright uncommon if you ask me. We spent the morning sipping coffee and sharing a black velvet cake. And like last week, we went to The Pavilion for lunch. Ichi Zen is KH's favourite restaurant there, so that's where we went. I was so hungry that I bit off the tip of my plastic chopstick. Happened while I was trying to get a bite of the salmon ozisushi . The crack was so loud that girls sitting beside us looked over. I thought I had chipped a tooth, but seems that my incisor is tougher. Then we made a trip to Fahrenheit 88 to look at their Christmas decorations. More animatronics with a large Ferris wheel and a mini carousel. And their idea of baby Jesus is an elf kicking its legs in the air. Did more last minute Christmas shopping and finally rested for some gelato at Gelatomio . Used the last of my 'useful' HSBC vouchers. SK visited me after

Monorail Celebrities: Floral Flynn

Image
Train: Monorail Station: Hang Tuah Direction: Titiwangsa Spotted Floral Flynn on my way to work one morning. The Kelana Jaya Line experienced a meltdown, so my colleague and I doubled back to the Ampang Line and interchanged to the Monorail at Hang Tuah. As you can see, he's very easy to spot in that loud printed T. It highlights his fair skin. Judging by his arms ( the muscles and the veins ), Flynn definitely works out. Keep an eye out for him if you're ever on the Monorail.

Crystalline Christmas

Image
On Monday morning, bundled the kids out to The Pavilion to absorb the Christmas atmosphere. Mum and kids loved it and we took lots of photos. SK also joined us there. For our mid-day meal, we ate at Food Republic . Been a while since I joined the lunch time crowd there. Back when I was working nearby, I used to order the lotus root soup set from Ah Yip's Nourishing Soups  a couple of times a week. Amazingly, the price increased from MYR10.50 to MYR17.80 in just a span of a few years! And the Toastbox  counter is still enjoying brisk business after all these years. Unfortunately, their throughput seems to have dropped. Huge queue there. Also ordered a plate of oyster omelette and kimchi soup which added up the bill to more than MYR50. So much for having a cheap and quick meal at the food court. Haha. Mum had a fruitful shopping spree at Parkson and Ms. Read which is good. At least she got some new clothes. Truth be told, its no simple task. With all the upcoming weddings, she was

Kahwin Karak II: Bentong Breakfast

Image
The next morning, we left before the other relatives since they were too slow to get ready. Mum and I drove back to Bentong to check out their famous morning market and have breakfast. Took a gamble with  Yuen Kee Kopitiam , an old corner coffee shop without a signboard. Judging by the crowds, it must have some good food. Took us twenty minutes of circling to secure a table. Mum ordered  wantan  noodles from  Hooi Kee  but seeing that they seem to be operating so chaotically, she ordered  chu cheong fun  from the other stall just in case. The CCF was quite impressive. The flat noodles had a good texture and the they use a combination of sauces not seen in KL. In addition to that, they also have a wide selection of stuffed beancurd, fishballs and fishcakes that are quite yummy. That tided us over for the forty-minute  wantan  noodles wait. I just sat there sympathizing with all the other customers who couldn't get a seat while mum went gallivanting at one section of the market.

Kahwin Karak I: Dengue Dinner

Image
Recently ( in the context of this blog ), my maternal cousin tied the knot with a lass from Karak. Since mum us closest with this uncle of mine, we were invited to both wedding banquets. The bride's function was a week before the groom's and was held at Bentong, a twenty minute drive from Karak. In the morning, I went to tidy up my unruly hair and mum got her's washed and styled. By the time we finished lunching at Nam Heong and got home, we only had a short time to get ready and drive to Bentong. My stylist who is a Bentong boy warned me that wedding banquets there start on the dot. Our drive there took ninety minutes and lots of highway tolls. Arrived with fifteen minutes to spare, but sad to say, the dinner started ninety minutes late. Guess the KL virus got to them. The venue was Grand Court Restaurant and was obviously pretty new. It had it is own compound and the interior decoration was pretty posh. Interestingly, the groom was warded at the Bentong Hospital for d

Birthday Babi

Image
Arranged to have dinner with Cutipie early in December to celebrate her belated birthday. She managed to get her hubby to look after the kids so she was free of 'encumbrances'. Pork was calling to her again so we had dinner at Morganfield's  for the second time in a row! But for some reason, their business is brisk compared to the rest. Perhaps they take their babi -ness more seriously. Even their paper napkin is printed with "Pork: It's the Meat of Kings". Hope they won't get in trouble with the law. Might be misconstrued as waging war against the YDPA. Our dinner was a meat overload really with a full rack of Hickory pork ribs and a chicken roulade. But paired with Asahi beers, it wasn't too bad. My darling KH kept piling her plate with meat earning him some brownie points. Not wanting to go home so early, we looked for a place to have coffee. Our wanderings brought us to dipndip , a coffee parlour that serves coffee as well. The place seems
