2015CNY3: What's Two Minus One?

Image
On the third day ( He rose again ), I made a visit to my tenant. The Nepalese was moving out, leaving the Korean. She greeted me at the door. And when I was gonna take off my slippers, she stopped me. Turns out that they wear footwear IN THE HOUSE. Good Lord. And as I glanced at the entrance grill, I found it to be covered by a thick layer of dust. If one was to carbon date it, no doubt it would prove that my tenants didn't do any cleaning for a year! A pair of dust bunnies! Took a brief look around to make sure that the home appliances were in good working order and returned the deposit to her. Chatted with her a while and she revealed that she would be going to the US for work. Wish her all the best and I hope that will at least pick up the habit to dust while she's in New York. Back home, mum was busy cooking lunch as The Tribe came over ( as did SK, her granny and Apollo's mum ). One of the more creative dishes was mum's pineapple prawns that came served in a pine

2015CNY2: Visiting the Pyramid

Nothing much went on the second day. In the morning, went through mum's old, black and white photos. One of these days, I shall embark on a project to digitize all of them. Back in those days, people loved to take photographs and develop them, exchanging copies with family and friends. I'm sure it wasn't exactly cheap back then but they did it anyway. Truth be told, back in those days, they took such artistic photos and without the help of digital cameras. Ate lunch at home after doing some house chores. Later in the afternoon, ventured out to Sunway Pyramid with mum and bro. The management decided to use a yarn-tangled sheep farm as the theme of their CNY decorations. Not your run-of-the-mill sheep, but Technicolor sheep. Paired with the AstroTurf, it felt a little bit like Teletubbies. And the yarn webbing made it look like Shelob was about to spring down from the rotunda. Haha. Made a short stop at Hui Lau Shan after shopping ( mum bought four plush lambs from thr

This year, CNY at church was a simpler affair cause it was already Lent. Less things put up would translate to less to take down. Haha. Like the year before, had to be a Mandarin orange mule upon stepping into church. Two hundred boxes to be moved. Great workout. The usual liturgy and ended with a lion dance performance. Lunch was at MaisonSK's. Tried Apollo's mum's yam chicken. Never tried the poultry version of that dish before. Quite different. And they also served up leftover shark's fin soup from their reunion dinner. Thick soup without the use of any tapioca flour. Could hear the protests of shark's fin activists with every spoonful. :P. In the evening, we watched our first CNY movie. Apollo bought the tickets for GSC Paradigm Mall. For some reason, he bought 1820 tickets instead of 1620. Luckily KH noticed, else we would have all gone two hours earlier. KH came over to fetch us to Paradigm Mall. He came a little earlier to visit but bro and mum were bo

Note: Thank Goodness it's CNY again!!! I utilised my replacement Thaipusam holiday on the eve of CNY. Bro was back, so we went out for breakfast at OUG. For some reason, luck wasn't on my side that day although I was wearing yellow underwear. Yellow is supposedly my lucky colour for the Year of the Goat le. Ordered wantan noodles from a stall at the coffee shop and it never came although the Indonesian staff reassured me that it would. After mum and Bro finished their noodles, I decided to just belah . Went to settle mum's banking at Maybank. Strangely the tellers didn't have a long line. On the other hand, it was chaotic at BSN where the branch was full of customers and the queuing system dead. Got that out of the way and went on to try to get some breakfast again. Thosai seemed simple enough. But it took longer than usual and I thought WTF, again?! Well, I wasn't that unlucky. Eventually it came, but tak sedap la. Fine. At the last minute, mum managed to bu

A VDay with Buddies

Valentine's Day was like any other marketing Saturday, except for the fact that it was on the final weekend before CNY. The Chinese came out in full force to make last minute purchases. Even the pick pockets stepped up their activities with five cases reported by 9:00 AM ( vendors make periodic public service announcements ). Many were milling around the flower and dried seafood stalls. Not satisfied with her stash from the wet market, mum directed me to Giant for further shopping. Found that they set up a little something for VDay inside the Hypermarket to showcase suitable gift choices. Hope their Shariah Index would not be affected. In the afternoon, just did some chores and lazed around. Main activity of the day was dinner a 'double date + 1' at Basil Pasta House , Kuchai Lama ( you guessed it, Apollo, QueerRanter-D and SK ). By the time we arrived, it was already pretty full. Strangely, it was mostly a family affair rather than a couples' affair. Much cro

Sold Off

Out of the blue, the sale for mum's property in Bercham, Ipoh suddenly went through after some ding-dong with the Perak Land Office. The legal assistant gave me a call and spoke in machine gun Hokkien to get me to collect the cheque before CNY. Might as well do it. Applied for leave on the 12th of February and drove up to Teluk Intan after breakfast. The first time I drove my Almera out of town. Arrived at the legal firm before lunch time. Offset the legal fees with the proceeds from the sale. Signed a few documents and drove off with the cheques. One long-drawn headache finally at an end. Immediately visited St. Anthony's Church after that and made a thanksgiving mass offering. Went to lunch after that at Glutton Square . Not many choices at all. At least the CKT was good. Not oily and had wok qi . Stopped by at Teck Kee Enterprise after that for some shopping. It was more happening that usual due to CNY. The front of their shop was chock-full of CNY biscuits, arti

Mall Celebrities: Hot Alex

Image
The guy on the left la. In case you didn't know, the guy on the right is Alex Chee (another Alex, another straight guy) Bumped into Alex Choong the other day at Sungei Wang Plaza. Recognized him although he was fully-clothed in contrast to what I'm more used to-- Alex Choong in underpants. Well, the hottie was with a female friend. And he was all touchy-touchy with her. Guess he really is straight. Or bisexual. LOL. Enjoy.

Food Finds

Note: Gap post ahead, I'll let he photos do the talking. Been many years since my last visit to Sushi Express , so I convinced KH to bring me there when we were at Citylink Mall. Walked up and down, traversing Marina Square and Suntec City. Later in the day, we found ourselves at Raffles Hotel looking at a photography exhibition. Dinner was at Tonny Restaurant , Geylang. A recommendation by POD. Truth be told, I had some apprehension about eating at a restaurant that is named after the chef and even features his face prominently on the signboard. But my doubts were unfounded. Food was fantastic. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - delicious egg white with fish roe without the annoying-ness of Zhang Ziyi. Crispy Yam with Truffle Oil - perfect for a high-rise lou sang ! For dessert, we had the best Blackforest cake in Singapore at Stuttgart Blackforest Boutique S-Café . Extremely non-halal . Two thumbs up. One isn't enough. Suzy was drunk on cake.
