Finn Peters @ the Polish Club Birmingham, October 11th. 2008 Swiped from Garry Corbett . Staleness Factor: 6/5. Before blogging about my own birthday, must get this out of the way first! Celebrated Janvier's boyfriend's ( Lam Lam ) birthday at Alexis, Great Eastern Mall some Saturdays ago. Mum was off gallivanting in Johor, travelling around Bukit Tinggi, Kulai and Muar with her posse, so I had a little more freedom. Anyway, Lam Lam is a difficult person to shop for. I don't really know what he likes. Even contemplated buying him a buku latihan matematik ! Had to resort to calling Janvier for some pointers. Finally settled on a bedsheet and an Esprit t. It was a surprise party that started an hour late due to logistics and traffic problems. But never mind, we started the reverie without the star anyway. Wine and cocktails were poured. It was fun seeing Alex getting all playful and loud, while even the most composed JL showed some interesting change after a Long Isl

Eruption

The dreaded showdown between my General Manager and a Project Director did not materialize. If the Project Director turned up, it would have been a clash of titanic proportions. My GM was visibly agitated with all the accusations hurled at us. For all these years, I have never seen him raise his voice. Today, he was nearly shouting at the Project Manager and he seemed to have a wild look in his eyes. However, his thoughts were clear on the matter. If we cannot work together and keep on arguing about ownership, then I will just walk out of the project. I have better things to deal with. The truth of the matter is, the partner that we have been working with for so many long years are very uncooperative. A dinosaur that refuses to change but is adamant for others to fit their archaic ways. Musuh dalam selimut. Sigh. It is not surprising that so far two vendors have failed to work with them. Walk away. Ah, what a prospect.

28

Yes folks, I will be turning 28 tomorrow. The chinese love this number because it sounds like EASY RICH. However, it can also mean EASY FAT. I hope it will be the former for me, NOT the latter. Unfortunately, my birthday coincides with a dark time in my working life. Not quite in the mood to celebrate it really, but celebrate it I will. My wish list is not updated, so you can all just do me a funds transfer. Thanks. Muacks in advance.

DNA Swiped from williamnyk . Staleness Factor: 6/5 => A blast from the past! Whenever KH comes back to KL, it is usually a juggling act of priorities. He has to plan time for me and his family. Ditto for me. Sometimes, scheduling is easy. At other times, clashes may happen and we have to accept the disappointment. Fortunately, his recent trip was very fruitful as I managed to occupy 50% of his time in KL. For 3 days in a row, we got to be together and it felt good ( his mother grumbled, "Seeing HIM again ah?" ). On Saturday, after work ( I got an earful from my boss at 9:00am, but more of that in a dedicated post ), SK and I went to pick him up at his home and sat down to lunch at Capri Dessert , Seri Petaling. Had an interesting meal of Claypot Rice with Stewed Ribs and Lotus Root. Also had their Fried Seawood Roll that actually looked like mini mussels after it was sliced. Dropped SK off at her home before proceeding to Amcorp Mall. I bought "A Thousand Pie

LRT Observations 1

Someone walks toward the turnstile. He stops halfway to fumble for his stored value ticket but does not find it. People in that situation normally do not realise that they are obstructing traffic. Please move to one side. Someone walks to the turnstile and inserts his ticket. It fails to turn. He backs up and steps on someone's toes. We normally forget that someone is behind us. So please look first. And please don't tailgate. This community service message is in no way sponsored by RapidKL.

FFK

For those of you of who are not familiar with the Cantonese dialect, FFK is an abbreviation of fong fei kei, that literally means to release an aeroplane. It sounds similar to another phrase that is close to my heart, ta fei kei. That means spank the aeroplane which corresponds to Englishs spank the monkey. But that is another topic for another time. Back to our original story of FFK. This phrase means to not honour an appointment. To not come when you earlier agreed to. When it is a group thing, I really do not bother too much as less people equals more intimacy, but it is in bad taste to FFK if there are reservations involved. Worse still are people who organize the thing but FFK instead. I really do not know what to say at times. Another wondrous example are also people who do not inform you that they will FFK, but rather drop the bomb on you after you go looking for them. This Syawal month, i take the opportunity to apologise to everyone that I had FFKed.

Look At Yourself

When peeing at the urinal, some people like to look away, stare at the ceiling or something. On the other hand, some like to take a better aim at actually keep their eyes trained on the "little fireman". So for those of us who like to look, all we can get is usually the bird's eye view. However, an alternative is available at Neway BTS. Along the row of urinals is a mirror right above it, running unhindered from one end to the other. You can look at yourself pee from a frontal view and more interestingly, minimal effort is required to look at the person beside you pee (or maybe even several people). Hehe.   I wonder what the real rationale for the mirror is....

Dictator

About a month ago, three newbies were assigned to my team. Neither of them had any English names. I encouraged them to choose one of their own to make things easier. Since they were reluctant, I christened one of the girls Monica and that name has stuck till today. Am I an evil team leader, or what.

Dream Sequence 4

Is it considered cheating on KH if I had a vivid dream of doing skanky things with a cute guy in my room. I remember quite a few details and I even recall him having kohl in his eyes ala Captain Jack Sparrow. No wetness from the dream though. Heh. Give me your thoughts, people.

It is Black, It is White

The last time I wore a white long sleeve shirt with black slacks, my colleague remarked Kerja kat Jusco ke? What an insult. Learning from that experience, I avoided the said combination like the plague. Continuing my story, the other day, I wore a white short sleeve linen shirt with grey pants and I immediately got this You look like a school boy. Celaka. But as always, think of the positive. Means I still can exude youthfullness. hehe. What can I do with my white shirts?

Dream Sequence 3

Since my father passed on in 97, I can count the times I had dreamt of him on one hand. This is the third dream. By far the clearest dream I had of him. His presence and face was quite real. In the dream, my dad brought me on a foodie trip. Jalan jalan cari makan la katakan. Our first stop was a famous fried mee hoon with a generous helping of vegetables an seafood. Next was a sinful cendol with lots of coconut milk. Somewhere in between the food reviews came a subplot ala Supernatural where an evil spirit was trying to ruin somebodys life by chipping away at his soul. Random giler. Time to buy 4D perhaps. Miss ya, dad.

All the Time in the World

The STAR LRT is back to normal today. No indication of yesterdays accident perhaps for maybe some overzealousness in jamming on the brakes. Yes, we should all slow down a bit and enjoy the journey rather than rushing about to the destination only to find disaster awaiting. I was having dinner at a hawker stall outside my office when I caught sight of a guy who seemed to have all the time in the world. It was like taichi. Every scoop of rice took 30 seconds to find its way to his mouth. He would stare at the traffic. Pause, with spoon in midair. After the rice, he slowly pored over the menu, quietly consulting the waiter on what was good. A plate of fried chicken came later and he did not acknowledge its arrival. He puffed away on his ciggie before having his first bite. Finishing that, he sippede his coke. After meticulously wiping his hands, he left. Amazing, right. And you know what. He is cute. haha.

Out of Service

For some unknown reason, the STAR LRT ended its service at Tasik Selatan this evening. They did not have the courtesy of informing passangers upstream that they would be unable to travel to the terminal station at Sri Petaling. The announcement only came when train abruptly stopped at Tasik Selatan. Passengers were subsequently told to cram into RapidKL buses to continue their journey. The scene at the station was hecticas cars were jamming into the station and people were running around looking for their connecting buses. Everyone was caught off guard. The PA system kept on announcing that the train would be out of service until 2330, that is the service closure time. Just announce that it would be closed for the day, who cares about whether it closes at 2330 or 2345. It is the same to the stranded commuters. We apologive for the inconvenience... my foot.

Death of an Appliance

Woe is me. My tv of more than ten years is on the blink. A Sony 25 inch, a generation behind flat screen tvs. I remember going to the neighbourhood electricl shop with my late father to pick it up. I still have the free t. rex alarm clock that came with it. It roared me awake for years. People around me have been asking me to upgrade. To go LCD. To go Plasma. I shall not write it off without getting the professionals to appraise the situation. For the time being, my tv just turns on for a few seconds before shutting down in white flash. If its mood is good, it will let me watch for a couple of hours. But that is getting rarer. Pray for my tv, guys and girls. Or pray that I will hit 4D and be able to before a Plasma tv. Haha.

Temper, Temper

I have been getting complaints from KH lately regarding my foul mood. Caring and manja tones can very quickly transform into lack of response and annoyance. My MCP would quickly try to placate me and turn my frown around. What is wrong? Are you ok? Nothing. It is nothing. I hear the soothing words, but it sometimes just does not register. It just feeds my anger. I do not know why I get annoyed at the smallest of things with him at times. It is so unfair to say that it is because I love him. Perhaps I subconsciously do it to get his attention. Perhaps it is sent up stress from work. Either way, I definitely need to cool myself down and show the proper respect for the person I love. Sorry, baby. I love you.

Bollywood Engagement

Image
collageMelEngage Swiped from williamnyk . Staleness Factor: 5/5 Some weekends back, Mel, my oldest friend from my Uni Perdana GPL ( Goreng Pisang and Lekor ) times got engaged to her boyfriend, BB. Was truly happy for her, because I had been through all the ups and downs with her. A veritable minefield of race ( Mel's Indian, whereas BB's Punjabi ), religion ( Mel's Roman Catholic, while BB's a Sikh ), in-laws and ex's. The happy occassion was very low-key with just BB's relatives, Mel's immediate family and a few select friends ( score! ). It was held at her new home in Kajang, so it was also kind of a house-warming too. Nobody knew how to get thee, so SK, my mum and I waited for her to guide us in. Due to unforeseen circumstances, she got delayed, so we killed time at the nearby Tesco. We were so over-dressed! By the time we got there, we were already late. Most of the guests had arrived by the time we walked in with the ritual gifts ( clothes, f

Straight Answer

When dealing with clients, it is usual not to overcommit to lessen the scope of work and avoid possible problems that cannot be overcome in the project timeline. Experienced marketing executives normally beat around the bush to confuse clients who are not too sharp. Even the terms used are usually guarded and noncommittal, for example IN A WAY and INDIRECTLY, YES. Recently I have been hearing a lot of these phrases from my project coordinator. It is down right annoying to be used in internal discussions. If we cannot even give each other a straight answer, how are we going to deliver a coherent product? Can you finish the development on time? I think I will just answer, IN A WAY.

Dream Sequence 2

I have been going into overdrive my REM sleep these days. Dreams come easily and are obviously influenced by current events. Dreamt that I was an ADUN for Penang and that I was having a meeting with my boss, Lim Guan Eng. Strangely, his face was clear. The impression I got was that he was a real jerk of a superior. Haha. Jaded Jeremy hypothesised that the dream came about from the chat I had with him regarding senatorship. Claims that I subconsciously want to enter politics. A remote possibility. But I would not mind having cute interns around me if that reality materialised. Hehe.

A Whole New World

Image
borneo-36 Swiped from dlumenta . Staleness Factor: 5/5 Made it a point to go to QueerR's farewell many Saturdays ago. My object was 3-fold: To send off one of the pioneer members of my alternate friends group To raid his 32GB of PSP games ( forgot to raid his 70GB of porn ) To catch up with the gang at one go ( specifically Takashi and Jase ) Quite an interesting affair. It was a potluck, but SK and I were at risk of turning up with 4 sikat of bananas. Tried our luck at Great Eastern Mall. Left the place with 2 roasted chickens and a delicious bread maki from Riche Montana to alas perut . Being already 30 minutes late, we still made it as the 2nd batch of guests to arrive. As the guests arrived, the dining table was filled with skewered chicken, roti jala and the accompanying chicken curry, fried rice vermicelli, shepherd's pie, tomato beef stew, potato-tuna-egg-mayo salad ( a mouthful, this ), nachos with taco sauce and a bucket of KFC. Entertainment was provided b

Dream Sequence 1

Unlike SK, my dreams rarely turn out like Hollywood Blockbuster action movies. The special effects are limited as the overall feel of the dream comes from feelings and impression. I usually only remember little snippets, but this time there is a little more plot. I dreamt that a taxi driver fell in love with me. Not an uncle, mind you, but a young chap. From the impression I got, I had been on his taxi a few times and we knew a bit about each other. In my dream, he suddenly confessed his feelings for me with a pair of cobalt earrings. I remember him vaguely telling me that there is a significance to it, but I cannot put my finger on it now. He kissed me in drin of my porch. I was so freaked out as my mum was watering the plants. But it turns out that she did not see anything. Suddenly, the scene changed and I was backstage at a school performance. Four teams duking it out on stage. Weird? I cannot explain it.

Long Time No See

An old friend of mine will be arriving in the country tomorrow. We go way back. I have known him since I was 13. We had many good times together and also moments of conflict. But that is just usual in any healthy relationship. We have many things in common and it made us brothers. However, his decision to leave the country for greener pastures did make us drift apart, and I notice that we are different people now. With him coming home tomorrow, it will be like getting to him all over again. And I pray that the journey would not be too difficult. Welcome back, Ryan.

Cat's Face

My fight with adult onset acne is not yet over. The secret weapon my dermatologist prescribed seems to be losing its efficacy, or perhaps my skin has gotten used to it. As a result, I have gotten a litte spotty around the cheeks and it doesn't help that I have itchy hands. I am restraining myself now. But I think I would need to resort to what my sister uses for Cyan, MITTENS. Ample rest seems elusive too with my hectic work schedule and my rebelliousness towards sleeping early. As KH says, I em teng wah. hehe. I guess it is time to be obedient.

Death To Playthings

Image
death to playthings Swiped from mad ! . The story so far... ALEXANDER It wasn't a dark and stormy night - that's really a clichéd beginning for a story. For Julien, it was bright enough to see the faint outline of Philip's naked body. Philip was sleeping soundly on the silk satin bedsheet, but Julien just couldn't even get his eyes close on that full moon night. He was looking out the dusty windows, lightly holding the almost empty wine glass. Then, he caught a glimpse of a shadow... who was this stranger in the night? JANVIER Julien silently shut the window and kept in the shadows, to avoid being silhouetted in the moonlight. "Must get the job done quickly now," he thought while appreciating Philip's physique, "before he gets back." He downed the remains of the wine, then took out his garrotte. Why do I always get the good-looking ones? he pondered as he got into bed, cradled Philip's head and slid the garrotte around Philip's neck.

Nearly everyone has blogged about the Olympics. From the opening ceremony to the cute athletes to the queer atheletes to our expected failed bid for an olympic badminton gold to man-stuck-in-bench to failed China track and field hero. It's all so very interesting, but with work and lack of RTM1 or Pay-TV, my exposure to the games has been minimal. Heck, I didn't even watch the opening ceremony. Was with my colleagues eating dinner at Kim Gary Beyond at table 88. SUch a coincidence to be sitting there on 08/08/08. Too bad we didn't time our departure at 08:08:08pm. Anyway, I miss oogling at the gymnasts and divers. Sigh, even Athens 2004 was a blur for me. It's sad to let such a big event just pass by. Perhaps YouTube will be my saviour... The Return

KH dah balik, KH dah balik. Yea, yea, KH dah balik. Yes folks. The boyfriend is back again and I am really stumped as to what to do and where to go. I feel pressured to do something special, but to us maybe even the most mundane can be considered special due to our distance. Anyway, will be looking forward to spending time with him. Any time IS quality time.

Bossy

I am sure that everyone thinks that their boss is the worst boss this side of Jinjang. Nearly as sure as there are lucky bastards out there who have nice bosses who appreciate and respect them. For me, everytime my boss opens his mouth, I get annoyed. To show that he is contributing, he would expect the whole world sitting there beside him wasting time on his indecisiveness and lack of grip on reality. And the way he talks, goodness, so condascending. He goes on and on, using his favourite words and phrases. INDIRECTLY. Then what happens directly? THUMB OF RULE. sic. What a dumbass. CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG. As if he will admit making a mistake. TO A CERTAIN EXTENT. What extent is that? We will never know. Bersyukurlah if you have a good boss. To the unlucky ones, sabar itu separuh dari iman.

East Chamber

Image
CollageDragonInn Swiped from williamnyk . Being the dear she is, SK has been downloading classic wuxia movies for me recently. Among my favourites that she managed to find were "Dragon Inn" and "The Swordsman" . In my opinion, both movies are extremely good in terms of plot, fight choreography, pace and acting talent. Coincidently, both are set in the period when the East Chamber eunuchs were in power. In "Dragon Inn", many big names were namely, namely Maggie Cheung, Brigitte Lin, Leong Ka Fai and Donnie Yen as the villanous eunuch leader. Maggie was superb as Golden Jade, the cunning owner of the inn which is the movie's namesake. My favourite scene involving her was when she tried to diffuse a tense moment in the inn by sprinkling tea on both antagonists. Brigitte Lin and Tony Leung play a couple who are trying to rescue a close friend's orphaned children. Everything culminates at Dragon Inn, in the desert, in the middle of no where.

HAPPY NATIONAL DAY

Breaking news on the National Day Speech. Our dear Prime Minister tells us that ONCE AGAIN, we come together to celebrate our countrys 51st National Day. I wonder when THAT happened. Lol.

BLOCKHEAD

21 ISPs were ordered to block access to RPKs Malaysia Today. The government has cited libel. RPK calls it internet censorship that violates one of the MSC charters. He has said that he will personally see to the death of the MSC. Interesting days ahead.

The Cold

It has been raining An Wah and Ali Xia these past few days. The rain just goes on and on, never really stopping. The continuous drizzle nearly put a damper on my weekly swim. Logistics were already bad enough without having to worry about the weather. Was quite determined to swim, so KT and I waited, stalked the weather. When the rain subsided a bit we just took the chance and jumped into the water. The only two idiots there. As expected, the water was freezing. We quickly did our laps and exited the pool in record time. Goes to show that in warmer times, we spend half the time yakking and fooling around. hehe. Our muscles were less responsive in the low temperature, so it seemed like more effort was required. I felt thoroughly exercised after the session and it was a good feeling. That night, I dreamt that I was doing an RPG dungeon crawl. Running here and there. Letih giler. Cannot wait to do it again. Haha.

Packet One

If you guys have not noticed, posts that do not have my usual accompanying flickr picture are actually originated from my handphone via email. Nothing fancy, just GPRS. And for some unknown reason, emails from my phone are sometimes rejected by gmail if they contain certain punctuations like the apostrophe or the dash. Therefore, just in case, I omit the little buggers from my writings. So it is neither bad English nor stylized ranting. Just a workaround. In conclusion, seeing that this post was not posted from flickr, I am still stuck incommunicado in the blogosphere. Everything must be one way. No feedback. Can WIMAx save me, or it is just a whole load of disappointing hype? Pioneer rollout does not sound too convincing. Teething problems are to be expected and I am always sceptical of coverage footprints. Will it solve the network penetration problems. we shall see.

Obvious

To state the obvious is something that I am not very good at. I always downplay the things I do because I personally feel that it is an expected part of the job. A core competency. However, at my new client site, my eyes have been further opened. I can see fakeness and the exaggeration of minimal effort proliferate. Hi all. I have created TWO subfolders in the public folder for easier segregation of documents. The woman was announcing it like she separated two conjoined twins. Hi all. I sent out the email with the attachments for your easy reference. OH THANKS, it would have been SO difficult for us otherwise. You know how to attach files? Wait till you learn about forwarding. I do not know whether the appreciative person was being sarcastic, or just plain helpless. I must start applying these skills to my resume. To make the mundane seem magical. Everyone can be a miracle worker with the right wording. Cheers.

Bury the Mummy

Image
The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor Movie Photos (23) Swiped from divxplanet . In case you didn't know, I watch an average of 2 movies in the cinema every year. So when I actually buy a ticket, I would really hope that it's good. Just the other day, I watched my 2nd movie of the year and I must say that it was quite banal. A far cry from the enjoyment I experienced with "Iron Man". Perhaps it was my own fault for choosing to watch "The Mummy III: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" . Anything with III in it can't be good ( porn not withstanding ). Just look at "Alien III". "Pirates of the Caribbean III". "The Matrix III". Watched it at Midvalley Megamall and traffic was monstrous as usual. Parked at the first illegal parking we could find. SK and I took the service lift up to the 3rd floor, but she had left her phone in the car, so I volunteered to get it for her. By the time I got up and manoeuvered out of the labyrinth o

The Aftermath

Thanks to all the well wishes and my trusty bactidol and propolis, my sore throat has subsided. However, my sore throat germs decided to invite the cough and flu germs to stay on their way out. Tried Zyrtec D, and I must say it was not very good at evicting the freeloaders. The battle goes on. On a more cheerful note, I got confirmation that my good pal Mel is having her engagement cum housewarning do this coming Saturday and I am the guest of honour, perasan, and the designated photographer. Congratulations! Things at work are going quite slow. I hate starting a project. All the unknowns and the new resources and requirements. The project has two failed vendors behind it, so I am hoping that three times a charm. Wish me luck, people.

Nipples are really wonderful erogenous zones and although I like them being showered with attention as much the next guy, I feel really uncomfortable when it's my nephew that's involved. The little tyke has been voracious lately and can finish 3.5 units of milk at one go. When he's not sleeping or bawling, he'd be hankering for food. He'd be smacking his lips, looking for something to suck on. And the funny thing is that everytime I visit him, it'd be near his feeding time. As a result, he is agitated when I carry him and he constantly pushes his head towards my chest like a carnivorous grub looking for exposed flesh. Gasp! Down boy! I have no milk for ya! In order to placate him, I'd have to feed him my finger or his own hand. Sucks with wild abandon, that kid. As expected, that only satisfies him for a while before he goes

Middle of Nowhere

Why are there more and more middle management morons poking their noses into my project? What do they contribute other than asking stupid questions about status, progress and comfort levels, opening cans of worms in the presence of users without knowing heads or tails about the issue and of course ordering stationery. Oh, lets not forget about the Milo. When the shit hits the fan, they disappear and expect you to follow up. That is when they start their remote control. Heh. Deliver me from middle management mayhem.

Sore

I am bloody down with a sore throat today though I had resisted the temptation of my sister s homemade durian cakes and religiously drank water. Must be the fries, nuggets and apple pie from McD yesterday. lol. Other than that, my legs are also kind of sore from Sunday s swim with KT after a really long hiatus. And regarding my soreness with the whole Bar Council issue, I finally saw a voice of reason in The Star. An far sighted view by Karim Raslan in his column Ceritalah. An excerpt... Sweeping such issues under the carpet and intimidating people from discussing them just puts off the day of reckoning. A few days back, I was indeed a little sore with KH too, but that turned out quite good coz he immediately kissed the boo2 and made it a whole lot better. Hehe. Enough of being sore, time to get better.

Sincerity

Do not talk about it unless you are sincere. Since it will always be said that the other party has an ulterior motive, I guess the topic will never see the light of day. I guess the supposed truth does not handle well to discussion. Or perhaps we the believers are the real non believers.

Lapse

I am glad that whatever storm that was brewing has blown over. It all boils down to communication. Letting one s intentions known. Letting one s understanding known. The management of expectations. We always make our own assumptions, and that usually causes us to give kneejerk reactions. I am trying to tell myself to practise restraint. To hold my tongue. To reread correspondences before sending them out. I am bound to lapse in these practises once in a while, but at least some bad situations can be preempted and in my opinion is better than nothing. Speak up. Ask if you are unsure. Peace.

"...Saxton and Craker are concerned with identifying the threads of commonality that link their Malaysian experiences with their Australian lives - from the mutually-sustaining human traditions of ritual, food and decorative arts to the global stresses on a fragile, shared environment." Saxton predominantly used the bridal veil and embroidory as her medium. I especially liked "Re-collection: arachnida bellis perennis - daisy spider" and a recreation of a 7th-century Cambodian Buddha head with lace. The former was a marriage of entomology with the arts, as Saxton made detailed sillhouttes of Malaysian arachnids with her large collection of hand-embroidered table linen and lace. The former was a fantastic recreation of a Buddha head. She suspended it in mid-air giving a

Face the Facts

My honeymoon is over. Work will start to pile up. Not to say that my plate is empty now, but the pace is to my liking. Sigh. Starting tomorrow, i will go to a new project site. Internet access is restricted, so you might hear less from me. Officially, I am still part of my old site, so in reality, I have to handle shit at 3 places. And the fun thing is that the new project needs to go live in December by hook or by crook. Fun days ahead. I will let the screwed up management fight over my official status and pray that things do not blow up everywhere simultaneously. Keeping my fingers crossed. Will be nearer to KLCC now, so for those of you who are nearby, do give me a buzz. Wish me luck. I hope I survive.

Turns out no bus was leaving until 3:00pm and the Genting Skyway was closed for maintenance for 10 days. The only quick solution was a taxi. MYR80 per car and our driver just left us at the Awana Skyway. It was my first time using it. Much bigger, but much older. Only one gondola per trip. Another MYR5 and 1 hour later we arrived at Genting Highlands. The first order of business was lunch. Ended up at Hainan Kitchen . Horrible chicken rice. The curls at the front are really hard to tame even with my formidable arsenal of hair products. And so under the skillful ministrations of KK, he emerged from the shop cuter than before. It goes to show that getting a haircut for your significant other is a good investment. This time round, he managed to recreate the style by himself judging from the several MMS he sent me from Singapore. And this reminds of JJ's reluctance to style his hair after a SGD120 makeover from his best friend. Get back to work! Had a late lunch at BKT Station at Citrus Park. The BKT soup was very herbal-y. On the Friday that KH was still in town, I took a 3-hour lunch break ( just a few days later I received an e-mail broadcast from HR regarding punctuality, :P ) to sing karaoke with KH, SK and Apollo. Yes, people, I have not done this thing that is to be done by all Cina Punya Cina couples-- Pay money to sing off key in a dimly-lit room. Well, I found that KH is not an exceptional singer, but at least he does try. Didn't sing any yuk ma duets and there was nothing as romantic as The Chief's declaration of love for Janvier through song during Apollo's birthday KTV session, but I ain't complaining. Holding hands and singing something to

Watching Someone Sleep

sentries of the heart Swiped from mrtambourine . "My name was not mentioned enough in your BKK posts." , complained my sweet KH. I do admit that I didn't mention him that often so I have this post to compensate. So, don't lou gai , k? This has nothing to do with the fact the KH payed for my hotel lodgings at BKK. Hehe. Anyway, as you all know, I'm in an LDR with KH, so we hardly see each other often like the majority couples. Even rarer still for us to spend the night together in each other's embrace. Hence we always make it a point to do that everytime we get the chance. And I must give to due credit to my mama-san , SK who made many encounters possible. Anyway, have you noticed the way your partner sleeps? KH is a person who adores touching and closeness, hence in bed, we always cuddle close and if possible skin on skin. Whenever we get ready for bed, I will be in the crook of KH's shoulders and chest ( or vice versa ). I have noticed we someho

New Look, Old Ways

Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) Swiped from misya a . Saw in the Star Metro sometime back that Majlis Perbandaran Petaling Jaya had changed the uniforms of their staff to project a "friendlier" image. I don't know about you, but I don't see how changing the shirt from blue to white can achieve that. Perhaps if they took up clown costumes I would agree more. And anyway, what difference does it make if the person wearing the supposedly friendlier uniform also behaves like an arrogant prick? Always with the appearances. But anyway, good news for the uniform supplier.

"Honeymoon" Day IV: Back to Life, Back to Reality

Image
collageSouveniers Swiped from williamnyk . Arrangements were made for the van to pick us to the airport at noon, so we had a couple of hours after breakfast to burn. It was quite sad to learn that the Robinsons and Central Department Store nearby only open at 11:00am. Terpaksalah lepak at McD to wait for the shops to open. KH tried a Thai Tea Float and I must that it was super sweet. At Robinsons, met up with Damon who bought some racy magazines at the neighbourhood bookshop ( note to self: borrow mags from Damon ). Bought a pair of transluscent HOM underwear and KH finally found a suitable gym bag. With whatever remaining time was left, we headed to Central and Jason Jr. managed to buy the plates he had promised his boss. Saw Savante in action, racing down an escalator at break-neck speed. Rushed back to the hotel to check out. The van turned out to be a little too small for ten passangers, so we had to squeeze a bit. At Suvarnabhumi Airport, the check-in line at Air Asia wa

"Honeymoon" Day III: A Grand 'ol Time

Image
collageGrandPalace1 Swiped from williamnyk . The first order of the day was the Grand Palace . A sweltering day to visit it and dressing down wasn't an option due to the dress code, so we had to sweat buckets. It was just as I remember it, just that this time I didn't sneak in as a local. THB300 gets you in to the Grand Palace, Vimanmek Mansion and the Anantasamakom Throne Hall. A perfect place to camwhore and spot sweaty hotties. We visited the Royal Thai Decorations and Coins Pavilion, Phra Siratana Chedi, Phra Mondop, Hor Phra Gandhararat, Temple of the Emerald Buddha ( currently in hot season costume ) and the Chakri Maha Prasat Hall. Didn't visit everything there as we were kinda eager to leave the heat ( Janvier was melting like a Madame Tussaud on a hot plate ). Lunch was at Fuji , MBK-- the epitome of cheap and delicious Japanase food. For THB220, one can get a bento set with chicken, shrimp, fish, calamari, sashimi , maki , miso soup, omelette, chawanmush

"Honeymoon" Day II: KH and Will in JJ Land

Image
collageJJ1 Swiped from williamnyk . Sunday was reserved for the Jatujak Weekend Market ( since we didn't have enough time on Saturday ), where I knew the bulk of my shopping would happen. The ultimate example of variety under "one roof". We braced ourselves for the long day ahead by getting enough sleep, dressing light and bringing enough water ( but still most of my fluid ended up as sweat rather than pee ). From the hotel, we took the more direct route via Sam Yan MRT station. On the way to the station, we got a glimpse of Wat HuaLamphong. Security is stricter on the MRT with required bag checks and camera bans. On arrival, we immediately experienced why people flock to JJ every weekend-- a Prada key chain sold for THB20 on the roadside vs. THB120 at Patpong. T'was my 5th trip to JJ and come to think of it, I think I've only managed to cover 40% of the place. It's too big to manoeuver. We were there from 10:30am till 5:00pm with numerous pit stops

"Honeymoon" Day I: Grasshoppers in a Land of Pussies

Image
collageTakeANap Swiped from williamnyk . I have no idea when the tickets for the trip to Bangkok (BKK) was bought. A good guess would be months ago. At that time, I just agreed to buy it and if the trip happened, it happened. If my work schedule was sucky, oh well, I would be prepared to let it burn. Just bought it and pushed it to the backburner. However, I really wanted it to happen ad it did. My first trip with KH and I must say it's very memorable. The trip itinerary was not fleshed out until only a week before departure. Thank goodness for skillful planners like JL who took care of accomodations and transport. :P. On Friday, KH arrived from Singapore by flight. We spent the night together at SK's place. Had her transform into pimp mode again. Hehe. The next morning, we were driven to LCCT by David. It was KH's first time there experiencing the Giant Hypermarket-like interior, low security, semi-manual baggage handling, kedai runcit duty-free shops and wet mar

Hair Icon Studio

Image
Hair Icon Studio Swiped from williamnyk . KK, my stylist has officially opened his new hair salon, Hair Icon Studio , Citrus Park OUG. He left Snips with another senior stylist Josdon, and they practically brought the whole clientelle over. Passing by his old place, one can really see how quiet things have become. Kinda like a soft launch, there was no extravagance involved. No lion dance or ribbon cutting. Just lots of food-- curry chicken, fried beehoon , fried rice, fried springrolls, fried chicken, stewed pork with monk ear fungus, sushi, fish fillet, sausages and butter prawn, Even vodka was poured. Quite a quiet affair with his regular customers and family ( all either in the hair or makeup line! ). His new place is very simple. Clean lines and the main colour theme is BnW. SK and I didn't get him any flowers but went a little unconventional with an aromatherapy burner and essential oils from Australia. Threw in a beanie fortune cat as well. The week before, I had al

Kitchen Fresh Chicken

Image
kfc Swiped from ovalspleen . Can anyone enlighten me on the meaning of kitchen fresh chicken ? This new slogan of KFC ( OMG, even the abbreviation is the same, sooooo clever ) really baffles me. What does it mean?! Some kind of specially-bred chicken that is only stays fresh in the kitchen? Or are they serving us a type of chicken that actually freshens up any kitchen through some sort of genetic splice with Ambi-Pur? Hope you have the answer to their "12th Secret".

Government Mouthpiece

Perhimpunan Protes Sejuta Rakyat Swiped from a,G . Same situation, different treatment. That's what I got from TV3's primetime news, Buletin Utama. People say that The Star is pro-government, but I find TV3 is even more so. Their first piece on Monday was on PROTES, the anti-price hike thing at Kelana Jaya. Was reported as unhealthy and a threat to public safety. Police commented that the rally was obviously politically-motivated, so all the speeches would be recorded. After that, a rally of support at Perak for our embattled PM was covered. It was on the other hand described as "peaceful" and "positive". Even had a clip of a fiery speech going on. Biased? Anyway, our DPM declared PROTES a failure because the attendance was poor. Mestilah, blok sini-sana . Just on Jalan Puchong itself the police put two roadblocks causing massive jams. Other news included comments from our dear MIC President regarding his ex-Youth Chief. He described him as "un

La Senza

Image
collageLaSenza Swiped from williamnyk . Remember my shopping spree not too long ago? Well, I participated in a HSBC contest on that day and I actually won! Filled in about ten entry forms. Had to guess the value of the Guess products on two mannequins. SK and I guessed from a range of MYR10k to MYR30k. Guess we were close to have won MYR1000 worth of shopping vouchers. Hehe. Unfortunately for me, the vouchers are all for La Senza . -_-||. No La Senza Men in Malaysia, dammit! Sigh. Perhaps I'll start wearing lacy panties...

Thai Green Curry Fried Rice :) Swiped from koe2moe . I had highlighted all the unhappiness in BKK but I had failed to mention the happiness I had found in the wonderful food there. So unlike me hor ? Sorry to say that I don't have any photos to salivate you, so I guess you'll have to turn up your imagination. >> Day 1 : Robinsons Bangrak Foodcourt for lunch and dinner due to the rain Stir-fried bacon and sausages in hot basil. Simple and yummy. Stewed pig trotters with egg and rice. Fragrant and smooth meat. With a sinful helping of fatty skin. >> Day 2 : Breakfast buffet at Blue Spice at Centerpoint Bangrak. Love their boiled rice with spicy salted egg salad and belly meat. Grand China at Wall Street Tower for a Chinese lunch. Price is on par with Crystal Jade Palace. Had loads of dim sum ( ha kau, siew mai, cha siew pau, custard pau, wu kok ), cabbage wrap and seafood kuey tiao and fried rice. Dinner was at Gwei Lo Shop at Bangrak. Plenty of succul

Grim Fandango

Image
Grim Fandango Swiped from Kressara . Recently, I've noticed that I always scan through the obituries section in the newspaper. Not that I am expecting to see anyone I know there, but I once found out about the death of my university lecturer through it. Don't worry, I am not getting into a depressive state or getting morbid, just one of the weird things I do, I guess. I have done my best in the race, I have run the full distance, and I have kep the faith. -- Timothy 4:7 P.S.: Jaded Jeremy, you still weirder. :P.

Why Can't We All Just Get Along?

Why can't we do the simplest of things? Why can't we tell a person to their face how they feel rather than run away and sulk? Why do we always have to be right and want to rub it in each other's faces? Why do we say things that only serve to cause hurt? Why can't we do the little things that we know will make each other happy? Why do we neglect the concern's of others because in our little myopic minds, we think it makes no sense? Why do we pretend to understand but still continue to be oblivious about each other's feelings? When will we ever learn?

Rainy BKK

Image
October rain in Bangkok Swiped from Vardhana . A string of unfortunate incidents in BKK. Really not "smooth"... :( I arrived to find that my room wasn't booked, so I had to share a room with my boss. Ugh. And I forgot to bring my camera! :( Been in BKK for four days and I didn't even get a chance to go sight-seeing. Work. Work. Work. :( Due to the rain, dinner was confined to the food court near my serviced apartment. Ugh. From the balcony, I saw that the weather was clear, but when I went down to swim.... I saw dark clouds swirling behind the building and gale-force winds startng to blow. :( On the morning that the driver was supposed to pick us up, the engine couldn't start. When we called for a cab, the car managed to start. And we had to run in and out of the lobby to make and receive calls while lugging a heavy projector. :( During the last minute, my boss ( the main presenter ) had to fly back to KL because his wife delivered ahead of schedule.
