Bury the Mummy

The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor Movie Photos (23) Swiped from divxplanet . In case you didn't know, I watch an average of 2 movies in the cinema every year. So when I actually buy a ticket, I would really hope that it's good. Just the other day, I watched my 2nd movie of the year and I must say that it was quite banal. A far cry from the enjoyment I experienced with "Iron Man". Perhaps it was my own fault for choosing to watch "The Mummy III: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" . Anything with III in it can't be good ( porn not withstanding ). Just look at "Alien III". "Pirates of the Caribbean III". "The Matrix III". Watched it at Midvalley Megamall and traffic was monstrous as usual. Parked at the first illegal parking we could find. SK and I took the service lift up to the 3rd floor, but she had left her phone in the car, so I volunteered to get it for her. By the time I got up and manoeuvered out of the labyrinth o

The Aftermath

Thanks to all the well wishes and my trusty bactidol and propolis, my sore throat has subsided. However, my sore throat germs decided to invite the cough and flu germs to stay on their way out. Tried Zyrtec D, and I must say it was not very good at evicting the freeloaders. The battle goes on. On a more cheerful note, I got confirmation that my good pal Mel is having her engagement cum housewarning do this coming Saturday and I am the guest of honour, perasan, and the designated photographer. Congratulations! Things at work are going quite slow. I hate starting a project. All the unknowns and the new resources and requirements. The project has two failed vendors behind it, so I am hoping that three times a charm. Wish me luck, people.

Cyan & Me Nips

Madre, sfilata antichi mestieri e modi di vita, festival delle sagre, Asti 9 settembre 2007 Swiped from Zaffiro&Acciaio . Nipples are really wonderful erogenous zones and although I like them being showered with attention as much the next guy, I feel really uncomfortable when it's my nephew that's involved. The little tyke has been voracious lately and can finish 3.5 units of milk at one go. When he's not sleeping or bawling, he'd be hankering for food. He'd be smacking his lips, looking for something to suck on. And the funny thing is that everytime I visit him, it'd be near his feeding time. As a result, he is agitated when I carry him and he constantly pushes his head towards my chest like a carnivorous grub looking for exposed flesh. Gasp! Down boy! I have no milk for ya! In order to placate him, I'd have to feed him my finger or his own hand. Sucks with wild abandon, that kid. As expected, that only satisfies him for a while before he goes

Middle of Nowhere

Why are there more and more middle management morons poking their noses into my project? What do they contribute other than asking stupid questions about status, progress and comfort levels, opening cans of worms in the presence of users without knowing heads or tails about the issue and of course ordering stationery. Oh, lets not forget about the Milo. When the shit hits the fan, they disappear and expect you to follow up. That is when they start their remote control. Heh. Deliver me from middle management mayhem.

Sore

I am bloody down with a sore throat today though I had resisted the temptation of my sister s homemade durian cakes and religiously drank water. Must be the fries, nuggets and apple pie from McD yesterday. lol. Other than that, my legs are also kind of sore from Sunday s swim with KT after a really long hiatus. And regarding my soreness with the whole Bar Council issue, I finally saw a voice of reason in The Star. An far sighted view by Karim Raslan in his column Ceritalah. An excerpt... Sweeping such issues under the carpet and intimidating people from discussing them just puts off the day of reckoning. A few days back, I was indeed a little sore with KH too, but that turned out quite good coz he immediately kissed the boo2 and made it a whole lot better. Hehe. Enough of being sore, time to get better.

Sincerity

Do not talk about it unless you are sincere. Since it will always be said that the other party has an ulterior motive, I guess the topic will never see the light of day. I guess the supposed truth does not handle well to discussion. Or perhaps we the believers are the real non believers.

Lapse

I am glad that whatever storm that was brewing has blown over. It all boils down to communication. Letting one s intentions known. Letting one s understanding known. The management of expectations. We always make our own assumptions, and that usually causes us to give kneejerk reactions. I am trying to tell myself to practise restraint. To hold my tongue. To reread correspondences before sending them out. I am bound to lapse in these practises once in a while, but at least some bad situations can be preempted and in my opinion is better than nothing. Speak up. Ask if you are unsure. Peace.

collage.net.au Swiped from williamnyk . Recently visited 2 back to back art exhibitions at The Annexe Gallery, Central Market. The first was Tim Craker and Louise Saxton's dot-net-dot-au . "...Saxton and Craker are concerned with identifying the threads of commonality that link their Malaysian experiences with their Australian lives - from the mutually-sustaining human traditions of ritual, food and decorative arts to the global stresses on a fragile, shared environment." Saxton predominantly used the bridal veil and embroidory as her medium. I especially liked "Re-collection: arachnida bellis perennis - daisy spider" and a recreation of a 7th-century Cambodian Buddha head with lace. The former was a marriage of entomology with the arts, as Saxton made detailed sillhouttes of Malaysian arachnids with her large collection of hand-embroidered table linen and lace. The former was a fantastic recreation of a Buddha head. She suspended it in mid-air giving a

Face the Facts

My honeymoon is over. Work will start to pile up. Not to say that my plate is empty now, but the pace is to my liking. Sigh. Starting tomorrow, i will go to a new project site. Internet access is restricted, so you might hear less from me. Officially, I am still part of my old site, so in reality, I have to handle shit at 3 places. And the fun thing is that the new project needs to go live in December by hook or by crook. Fun days ahead. I will let the screwed up management fight over my official status and pray that things do not blow up everywhere simultaneously. Keeping my fingers crossed. Will be nearer to KLCC now, so for those of you who are nearby, do give me a buzz. Wish me luck. I hope I survive.

collageGentingColl Swiped from williamnyk . There are only two things to do at Genting: Gamble Theme Park On my trip there with my colleagues, I did neither. The journey there was not smooth. Met up with the gang at 9:00am, but some stragglers only arrived at KL Sentral at 9:30am. Any by the time they had settled breakfast, it was already 10:00am. Turns out no bus was leaving until 3:00pm and the Genting Skyway was closed for maintenance for 10 days. The only quick solution was a taxi. MYR80 per car and our driver just left us at the Awana Skyway. It was my first time using it. Much bigger, but much older. Only one gondola per trip. Another MYR5 and 1 hour later we arrived at Genting Highlands. The first order of business was lunch. Ended up at Hainan Kitchen . Horrible chicken rice. The meat was tasteless and I suspect it was frozen for far too long. Expensive, yet unpalatable. Even white rice costs MYR3.90. Bad service to boot. Better spend your money at KFC. Having filled o

Dark Summer Swiped from ~Idan . Was at Metrojaya, Midvalley before the sale season crowd made it a big parking headache-- Me: Ooooooooooooh. The promoter at the Burberry fragrance counter is cute! SK: Where? Where? Ah, you're right. Me: The nametag reads "Vincent". Hehe. Not bad wor. Cuter than KH. SK: Cuter than KH?! Of course la. How can you even use him as a benchmark?! Me: Like that also cannot ah? ~^____________^~ But KH does have VERY smooth skin. Tak caya? Can ask SK also. :P

Mother-in-Law

Birthday Girl Swiped from The 10 cent designer . On the Saturday before KH left for Singapore, I brought him to see my stylist KK for a haircut. His hair really unruly. The curls at the front are really hard to tame even with my formidable arsenal of hair products. And so under the skillful ministrations of KK, he emerged from the shop cuter than before. It goes to show that getting a haircut for your significant other is a good investment. This time round, he managed to recreate the style by himself judging from the several MMS he sent me from Singapore. And this reminds of JJ's reluctance to style his hair after a SGD120 makeover from his best friend. Get back to work! Had a late lunch at BKT Station at Citrus Park. The BKT soup was very herbal-y. I wouldn't recommend the Pepper Stomach Soup and the Shanghai Spare Rib Noodles ended up looking like Chicken Chop Noodles, but the gravy was good though. Dessert was coffee and cake at Secret Recipe . Oh how the standard

I'm NOT talking about candles and leather straps in the bedroom, but I could be . These are the things that make LDRs sucky. But never mind, better late than never. On the Friday that KH was still in town, I took a 3-hour lunch break ( just a few days later I received an e-mail broadcast from HR regarding punctuality, :P ) to sing karaoke with KH, SK and Apollo. Yes, people, I have not done this thing that is to be done by all Cina Punya Cina couples-- Pay money to sing off key in a dimly-lit room. Well, I found that KH is not an exceptional singer, but at least he does try. Didn't sing any yuk ma duets and there was nothing as romantic as The Chief's declaration of love for Janvier through song during Apollo's birthday KTV session, but I ain't complaining. I do admit that I didn't mention him that often so I have this post to compensate. So, don't lou gai , k? This has nothing to do with the fact the KH payed for my hotel lodgings at BKK. Hehe. Anyway, as you all know, I'm in an LDR with KH, so we hardly see each other often like the majority couples. Even rarer still for us to spend the night together in each other's embrace. Hence we always make it a point to do that everytime we get the chance. And I must give to due credit to my mama-san , SK who made many encounters possible. Anyway, have you noticed the way your partner sleeps? KH is a person who adores touching and closeness, hence in bed, we always cuddle close and if possible skin on skin. Whenever we get ready for bed, I will be in the crook of KH's shoulders and chest ( or vice versa ). I have noticed we someho

Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) Swiped from misya a . Saw in the Star Metro sometime back that Majlis Perbandaran Petaling Jaya had changed the uniforms of their staff to project a "friendlier" image. I don't know about you, but I don't see how changing the shirt from blue to white can achieve that. Perhaps if they took up clown costumes I would agree more. And anyway, what difference does it make if the person wearing the supposedly friendlier uniform also behaves like an arrogant prick? Always with the appearances. But anyway, good news for the uniform supplier.

"Honeymoon" Day IV: Back to Life, Back to Reality

It was quite sad to learn that the Robinsons and Central Department Store nearby only open at 11:00am. Terpaksalah lepak at McD to wait for the shops to open. KH tried a Thai Tea Float and I must that it was super sweet. At Robinsons, met up with Damon who bought some racy magazines at the neighbourhood bookshop ( note to self: borrow mags from Damon ). Bought a pair of transluscent HOM underwear and KH finally found a suitable gym bag. With whatever remaining time was left, we headed to Central and Jason Jr. managed to buy the plates he had promised his boss. Saw Savante in action, racing down an escalator at break-neck speed. Rushed back to the hotel to check out. The van turned out to be a little too small for ten passangers, so we had to squeeze a bit. At Suvarnabhumi Airport, the check-in line at Air Asia wa

A sweltering day to visit it and dressing down wasn't an option due to the dress code, so we had to sweat buckets. It was just as I remember it, just that this time I didn't sneak in as a local. THB300 gets you in to the Grand Palace, Vimanmek Mansion and the Anantasamakom Throne Hall. A perfect place to camwhore and spot sweaty hotties. We visited the Royal Thai Decorations and Coins Pavilion, Phra Siratana Chedi, Phra Mondop, Hor Phra Gandhararat, Temple of the Emerald Buddha ( currently in hot season costume ) and the Chakri Maha Prasat Hall. Didn't visit everything there as we were kinda eager to leave the heat ( Janvier was melting like a Madame Tussaud on a hot plate ). Lunch was at Fuji , MBK-- the epitome of cheap and delicious Japanase food. For THB220, one can get a bento set with chicken, shrimp, fish, calamari, sashimi , maki , miso soup, omelette, chawanmush

"Honeymoon" Day II: KH and Will in JJ Land

collageJJ1 Swiped from williamnyk . Sunday was reserved for the Jatujak Weekend Market ( since we didn't have enough time on Saturday ), where I knew the bulk of my shopping would happen. The ultimate example of variety under "one roof". We braced ourselves for the long day ahead by getting enough sleep, dressing light and bringing enough water ( but still most of my fluid ended up as sweat rather than pee ). From the hotel, we took the more direct route via Sam Yan MRT station. On the way to the station, we got a glimpse of Wat HuaLamphong. Security is stricter on the MRT with required bag checks and camera bans. On arrival, we immediately experienced why people flock to JJ every weekend-- a Prada key chain sold for THB20 on the roadside vs. THB120 at Patpong. T'was my 5th trip to JJ and come to think of it, I think I've only managed to cover 40% of the place. It's too big to manoeuver. We were there from 10:30am till 5:00pm with numerous pit stops

At that time, I just agreed to buy it and if the trip happened, it happened. If my work schedule was sucky, oh well, I would be prepared to let it burn. Just bought it and pushed it to the backburner. However, I really wanted it to happen ad it did. My first trip with KH and I must say it's very memorable. The trip itinerary was not fleshed out until only a week before departure. Thank goodness for skillful planners like JL who took care of accomodations and transport. :P. On Friday, KH arrived from Singapore by flight. We spent the night together at SK's place. Had her transform into pimp mode again. Hehe. The next morning, we were driven to LCCT by David. He left Snips with another senior stylist Josdon, and they practically brought the whole clientelle over. Passing by his old place, one can really see how quiet things have become. Kinda like a soft launch, there was no extravagance involved. No lion dance or ribbon cutting. Just lots of food-- curry chicken, fried beehoon , fried rice, fried springrolls, fried chicken, stewed pork with monk ear fungus, sushi, fish fillet, sausages and butter prawn, Even vodka was poured. Quite a quiet affair with his regular customers and family ( all either in the hair or makeup line! ). His new place is very simple. Clean lines and the main colour theme is BnW. People say that The Star is pro-government, but I find TV3 is even more so. Their first piece on Monday was on PROTES, the anti-price hike thing at Kelana Jaya. Was reported as unhealthy and a threat to public safety. Police commented that the rally was obviously politically-motivated, so all the speeches would be recorded. After that, a rally of support at Perak for our embattled PM was covered. It was on the other hand described as "peaceful" and "positive". Even had a clip of a fiery speech going on. Biased? Why Can't We All Just Get Along?

Why can't we do the simplest of things? Why can't we tell a person to their face how they feel rather than run away and sulk? Why do we always have to be right and want to rub it in each other's faces? Why do we say things that only serve to cause hurt? Why can't we do the little things that we know will make each other happy? Why do we neglect the concern's of others because in our little myopic minds, we think it makes no sense? Why do we pretend to understand but still continue to be oblivious about each other's feelings? When will we ever learn?

Rainy BKK

October rain in Bangkok Swiped from Vardhana . A string of unfortunate incidents in BKK. Really not "smooth"... :( I arrived to find that my room wasn't booked, so I had to share a room with my boss. Ugh. And I forgot to bring my camera! :( Been in BKK for four days and I didn't even get a chance to go sight-seeing. Work. Work. Work. :( Due to the rain, dinner was confined to the food court near my serviced apartment. Ugh. From the balcony, I saw that the weather was clear, but when I went down to swim.... I saw dark clouds swirling behind the building and gale-force winds startng to blow. :( On the morning that the driver was supposed to pick us up, the engine couldn't start. When we called for a cab, the car managed to start. And we had to run in and out of the lobby to make and receive calls while lugging a heavy projector. :( During the last minute, my boss ( the main presenter ) had to fly back to KL because his wife delivered ahead of schedule. Seems like the logical thing to do when your left hand is carrying your bag and you need your right hand to put your wallet safely back into your pocket. Let me reiterate that I take the LRT to work everyday and I ALSO see people do the following with their LRT card: pick the dirt from under their fingertips drop it on the floor scrape their skin with it and of course, put it into their mouths If you're banking on LRT companies sanitizing the card everytime they release it into circulation, do think again. Happy commuting.

Since late nights and clubs are not my style, I met up with him over dinner at Moussandra . A very hidden place, squatting precariously at the edge of KL Plaza. I would never have guessed it was there. Subtle signage. The place is dim with an avalanche of melted candlewax over wine bottles on every table. By the time I arrived, Potato Bill, SK and Apollo had already ordered. Food arrived just a little after I sat down and had a sip of their sangria ( a little watered-down ). Singapore Business III: Father's Day

Image
collageWahiru2 Swiped from williamnyk . On Sunday morning, KH and Jeremy argued about whether it was Father's Day. Well, it does fall on the third Sunday of June and after squabbling, they both went off to wish their fathers in their own ways. It didn't occur to me then, but come to think of it, although I have not celebrated Father's Day for close to eleven years, I should have wished my late father too... Well, after breakfast, we were all lounging on Jeremy's king-sized bed when we noticed that his mattress was really quite worn out ( from regular humping?! ). Too soft. Bad support for the back. And so that got Jeremy into the mood to shop for a new mattress. We all took the bus out to nearby mall to check out the Courts Mammoth there, only to find that we have to go to their megastore to get mattresses. And so after a quick lunch at the food court, we took another bus to the Courts Mammoth Megastore. We took the scenic route as we didn't get off at the

Jazz in Transformers Swiped from Quang Minh (YILKA) . The last time I met KH was during CNY . In those long months, we merely communicated via SMS and phone calls. Sometimes an e-mail or two. And the even rarer but meaningful surprise greeting cards in the mail. In those long months, we missed each others' physical presence immensely. Whatever snuggling, cuddling, hugging and kissing had to be done via abstract means that although serves the purpose, but it onviously doesn't quite cut it. To connect, one had be there in person. Hence, to avoid exhaustion in the relationship, I visited KH during a weekend in June. We were both extremely busy ( with uncertainties in my work schedule, my sister's delivery due date, KH's exam and work ), but we both welcomed the reunion. Things were much easier this time round as KH had already moved in to stay with Jaded Jeremy. No more yappy dog and weirdness around KH's ex-landlord's family. We got to be ourselves. The

In exchange for the departure of an experienced colleague, I was recently given two newbies fresh from colleage. People at the office say that one of 'em looks like me and the other looks like my peer in Jakarta. Though I am all for teaching and guiding, but I it depends on the situation. If the pace of things are relaxed, I do not mind it, but if things are hectic, my patience grows very thin. So far, they're both infuriating in their own ways ( one knows not what he is programming and the other brings out his employment contract to question my accuracy when I tell him about company policy ), but they do have their uses. Better than nothing, that's what I always say. The next generation of cheap labour. Oh well, that's how I started out anyway. Tower of Babel

Image
Tower of Babel Swiped from Lawrence OP . Read Saturday's The Star and you'll see an article about the "towering achievement" of the Shian Yang 219th Kinta scouts troop. Basically, they spent MYR40,000 to build a 40.26m tall tower made of 5,000 pieces of mangrove wood and 300kg of rope. That "motivational and inspirational" white elephant earned them an entry in the Malaysian Book of Records. Whoopeeeeeee! I'm not sure whether I'll earn the ire of the scouts or anything, but I find the structure a real waste of money. And the mangrove trees that were sacrificed to "commemorate the 100th anniversary of the World Scout Movement"-- apalling. It would have been more meaningful if they had built a bridge that would have served some sort of purpose for the community rather than just some grandiose structure to stroke egos. And you know what? This is their 19th attempt. Well done!

Might have to resort to adhesive or high-voltage shocks to bring "life" to my hair if things continue to drag on. The reason for this delay is because my stylist is no longer with Snips. He has spread his wings, becoming his own boss. Apparently, his new salon is still under renovation. He assures me by the latest mid-June. There better be an opening discount. Since I'm on the subject of hairstylists, I just recently watched Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street . Come to think of it, I have not seen a single haircut in the movie. Oh well. I found the movie quite enjoyable really. Nice twists. The singing was fun, not too long-drawn. Helena Bonham Carter looked great with her smoky eyes and wild hair. And the same pallid complexion for Johnny Depp. So Edward Scissorshands. So Sleepy Hollow.

The top in my list right now is Maxis' Activ Ten radio advert. Ten, Ten, Ten, Ten, Ten, I got Activ 10. Ten, Ten, Ten, Ten... Stupid lyrics. Annoying voice talent. Interspersed with idiotic tribal chants. A real keeper. Have you guys been watching the prime time news lately? Keep your eyes peeled during Buletin Utama and you might just catch the promotional advertisement for the National Service. It seems that portraying the NS like a musical is supposed to make it look important. Kids with dumb expressions and exaggerated gestures. With SK and Apollo with me, we met him and Pikey at OKR, our usual haunt for steamed fish head and BKT. Unfortunately, during that visit, the fish head was too big ( flesh not smooth lo ) and the BKT soup too salty. I must say that he looks a little different from his pics, but has admitted that all his pics are carefully posed for and selected before released into cyberspace. The vain little boy. It has really been a while since I met up with Pikey too, so it was good. After dinner, we adjourned to Old Town Kopitiam at 3 1/2 Mile Square. It was quite happening for a Wednesday night. The drinks tasted different from the outlet in Central Market (

Avillioncollage Swiped from williamnyk . Other than the annual dinner, the only other event that my company spends "unnecessary" money on its employees is the team-building getaway. Hence, I make it a point to attend these things though they may seem boring and a waste of a good weekend. Being unsure about my schedule, I postponed my participation until the third batch and just so happened to clash with Apollo's big birthday bash. Having booked my place in the trip earlier, I had to forgo the party ( sorry, Kawan! ). When Avillion and Port Dickson is mentioned in the same sentence, it usually elicits gasps and looks of awe and longing. That is what happened to me when I heard about the venue for the training. (Finally, my company is actually appreciating us!) Unfortunately, that sentiment didn't last long. Turns out that the training was to be held at Avillion Admiral Cove rather than Avillion Resort . The former is a budget version of the luxurious latter.

Exams, Books and Us

JAPAN - Sake barrels Swiped from BoazImages . After a month of studying, I finally took my Microsoft exam at a training center at Amcorp Mall. It was quite stressful as I did not have much time to finish the syallabus and do the test questions. Had to resort to late nights and whipping out my laptop in the LRT. Not much chance to steal time at work too. Luckily I passed the exam, or else I would have burned MYR300 as I did not register for the second shot voucher ( free retake ). Having finished my test early, I roamed the secondhand bookshops while waiting for a lunch date with Janvier. The first shop I entered was typical-- books piled mile-high, the smell of dust and yellowing paper with a hint of dessicated silverfish. Found a book, but I deemed it too expensive. Walking out, I stumbled across BookXcess. Spacious. Clean. Plenty of new books at prices lower than that of the ancient archive I had exited from. Bought Anthony Swofford's "Exit A" for myself and &

Sliced Chicken Hor Fun Swiped from williamnyk . Lunch on Sundays is always a big question mark. Restaurant A, boring. Kedai Makanan B , yuck. Stall C, ugh. Where to eat? Where to eat? Where to eat?! As a result, we always end up eating at some place random after mass. Something we have never tried before. Some place that looks inviting. Some place with a healthy crowd. Having gotten a bit wary and weary of the eateries at Aman Suria, we have now ventured into SS2 ( don't really like the place as it confuses me and the crime rate is high ). Tried a Restoran Ho Fun . From the name, it's obvious that it's a shredded chicken hor fun specialty shop. Ordered the signature dish, but with whole pieces instead of shreds and it was quite good. The first thing that you'd immediately notice is that the soup tastes and smels like prawn noodles. Even better than prawn noodles as it is quite concentrated. The compulsory kau choi was present and the chicken extremely smooth,

Horror of the Sleep-Deprived Flight Attendants! Swiped from jawboneradio . After months of late nights, the toil is finally over.... not. Oh well. The system that my team and I had been working on had finally gone live on the 19th of May. Things were seemingly hunky-dory, but there were some critical errors that really put some serious doubt into the minds of the ends users. They were already resistant to change of operations, and thus they took the opportunity to sink the ship by complaining to the President directly ( some vindictive bastard is pretty well-connected ). Instead of sending my system to the depths of abandoned software, it survived by a thread. Instead of the 22 branches that it is deployed in, it is now constrained to 7 branches. I am now under public scrutiny. Well, the problems started from a bad server configuration. The database was not allocated enough space, the maintenance plans were not in place, the servers were not time-synchronized, the NLB was crea
