Ajak-Ajak Ashton

Image
Being the local foodies, the responsibility to keep Ashton well-fed fell onto KH and I. Sharky and his boyfriend also joined us to share the calories. We ventured to Klang to have BKT at Teluk Pulai on a rainy Deepavali morning. Once again, we failed to get a glimpse of the hunky son who chops the meat. With a food quorom of six, we could order the wet and dry varieties, and an extra serving of intestines and stomach. Naturally, we raided the Klang Food Centre pau shop after our meal.  There was no time for Ashton to digest his food as we immediately dragged him to Chong Kok Kopitiam for some old school coffee and toast. Although it has heritage status, frankly I'm not impressed with the place. As long as Ashton was satisfied with the Telur Goyang that he ordered. No kaya for him as his Taiwanese tongue doesn't fancy anything coconut-based. Kenji and Ashton rushed off to do some gadget shopping, but KH and I stayed a bit longer in the old part of town. Wandered into Laman

Fifth Roar: Tyre-d of BKT?

Image
KH did all the necessary checking and found a BKT place in Klang that was open on the fifth day of CNY-- Restoran Weng Heong , one of approved entries in Gratitude's list. He treated us to a big, meaty breakfast, a mix of soup and dry BKT. Klang Food Centre was also open, so we also left with bags of pau . With nothing else better to do, we went to Central i-City for coffee. Thought Chong Kok would be open, but it wasn't. The Loaf came to our rescue instead. The shopping scene there was also pretty lame, but the CNY decorations of choice was really quite unique, incorporating very stylized illustrations by Phannapast Taychamaythakool, a Thai artist.  Walked into Nale for a fried nasi lemak lunch and was later greeted to a familiar face-- Namewee . Turns out he was there with the case the cast of Nasi Lemak 1.0 which ironically is the sequel to Nasi Lemak 2.0. Since we had nothing better to do, we stayed on for the promotional junket at the center court. From our observatio

Belanja Bandar Klang

Sunday was pretty uneventful except for a dinner excursion to Klang Town. Really surprised that the Royal Town of Selangor is quite dead at night. Nary a shop was open, and the streets were not well-lit. Even more surprising was the fact that transexual sex workers canvas the streets around Jalan Temoh, pulling motorcyclists off their bikes! Agressive sales tactics. Gratitude jio -ed us for dinner at Noble Seafood , a restaurant with multiple accolades. Several signature dishes were chosen by our host. I must admit that the Stir-fried tapioca noodles is very good. Not overly oily, and has the requisite wok qi . On the other hand, I wasn't very impressed with the oyster mee suah . Felt a little flat. Other than that, the crispy chicken with almonds is something worth trying. After dinner, we went hunting for peanut soup. The original stall was at Emporium Makan, but all of the operators were dispersed after the place was demolished for the MRT project. Found the only pork

Coming to Klang

Image
Out of the blue, KH arranged a day out to Klang. He picked me up at 8:00 AM, and we made our way to AEON Bukit Tinggi where Gratitude was waiting to join us for a hearty BKT breakfast. The first choice was Ah Soon BKT, but it was not opened. Perhaps the owner celebrated Nuzul Al-Quran? Haha. Gratitude presented us with a second choice-- Fei Kay ( literally "aeroplane" ). Fei Kay BKT specialises in the clay pot variant, not the typical small bowl style of Klang. We tried both varieties, soup and dry. Being purists, Gratitude and I prefer the soup variant, but KH wanted to try the dry variant. To me, the latter is also nice, but it definitely ain't BKT. For second breakfast (we sound like Hobbit), Anton asked us whether we would like apom or kopitiam fare. KH wanted the latter, so we visited a branch of Cheong Foh . The place has a very different feel because it's renovated to look like a food court, where every food stall has their own counter, and the who

Deepavali Church Hopping

Image
On Deepavali, my BEC organized a Klang pilgrimage. Surprisingly, we even managed to attract a neighbouring BEC to tag along, making it two bus-loads of people. Gathered at church and had a priest perform a mass blessing before we went on our way. The first church we visited was the Church of the Holy Redeemer at Taman Berkerley, Klang. Its not a particularly old church but it has some interesting features. When approaching the church, one doesn't catch sight of the small statue of Christ the Redeemer out front, but will definitely notice the large Pieta  installed on the roof. And to the side of the main building is a newly-constructed arched grotto with a style that reminded me a little of Parc Guell. Installed within is a statue of Our Lady of Grace. We started with a full rosary session at the grotto and later moved into library cum hall for some refreshments. Those with their pilgrimage passports also got them stamped at the parish office. The parish priest's office has a

Roti , swiped from williamnyk on Flickr. Note: Sorry that I had been MIA for the most of this week. Work has been hectic and not much stories to tell. I'm sure many people will be blogging Yellow these few days, so I will spare you from that ( for now ) and serve you up some yumminess! ( not hunks la! ) Can you believe I woke up at 5:15am on Easter Sunday morning? Mum had registered for some MCA function in Ipoh. Couldn't resist a free getaway with several of her friends. Sent her to BK1 to catch the chartered bus. Since I was already up, SK and I went to the 6:45am Easter Sunday mass. Can't believe how many people actually wake up that early on a Sunday! Nearly full capacity. However, there was a lack of altar boys and the choir group was made up of the elderly. One aunty played the organ and sang at the same time. The hymns had a completely different feel. A bit retro! Right after mass we made our way to Klang to have breakfast with Gratitude. His mother was quite surpri

42-15535403 Swiped from lscomplex . Since mum's in Bukit Mertajam, SK and I went out a little later to the market. There's really no reason to be early cause SK can speed-shop, unlike my mum. By 9:30am, we were done and having breakfast at Taman United. Had a horribly salt-rich mee soya . Ugh. Finished up and headed for home. At around 11:00am, we went out to the law firm in Serdang Perdana sign our Sales and Purchase Agreement and Letter of Offer. Yes, we're finally going to be home owners! I think in total, the documents were 2 inches thick. So many copies to sign. And Alliance Bank is damn ma fan , one has to initial each and every printed page. Halfway through, I ended up not really knowing how to sign my name! Luckily the cheque cleared. Our lawyer explained every clause in the documents to us. Pointed out our rights and the rights of the vendor. Very clear. We applied for the 50% off the stamp duty and got the 20% off for Islamic financing. Asked the lawyer to pr
